My take on this scene:

Louis wants to turn Madeline. Armand has his convictions. He is scared to against rules that are so sacred to him.

Louis’ going to do it anyway. Armand feels backed into a corner. Like he has no control or say over the matter anymore.

So he falls back into that submissive role. Cradles Louis’ neck and tries to initiate that power dynamic.

“Are you asking or making me?”

Louis clocks this. Immediately redirects. “This isn’t what we’re doing. That’s not what this is about”

Armand feels rejected, he must’ve done something bad. “I’m sorry.”

Louis is gentle. He reassures. “It’s okay. You’re okay.”

Armand feels lost, he has no control over this matter and it terrifies him.
