it’s interesting that shen’s gamer girl is so chronically online that she is executively and socially dysfunctional, while his male lead, by comparison, comes across as healthfully & sensibly offline—even though femboy culture is steeped in the internet. (it’s steeped in some uniquely toxic parts of the internet, too.)

The depiction is clearly supposed to be someone who is an absolute nightmare, chronically online, openly cruel and ignorant

The character encounters someone at her local cornerstore who looks like a cute girl but when she tries to connect with her about men making our lives worse, the person claims to be a man

Our radfem character expresses exaggerated disgust and leaves without her things, and continues to spiral about it and grapple with confused attraction

It’s offensive and stupid on almost every conceivable level, but parts of her dialogue do sound like it could have almost been lifted from a real black pill, and it makes me wonder how much research the artist did to portray such a caricature. He had a month to spin this up, if he knew it was going to be wildly profitable for him i wouldn’t be surprised if he put in the work to familiarize himself with some actual talking points.

Also the ambiguity of the cashier character was clearly deliberate on the artist’s part, as the notes are chockablock full of readers gleefully debating whether the cashier character is supposed to be a “gnc trans man” or a “femboy”, all wondering what the subtitle “the boy from venus” might be referring to

I think the saddest part of this is how excited trans and tra audiences are for it and how at the bottom of each comic he’s got an entire panel with an advertisement for his patreon enticing them to pay a few dollars to get bonus panels and access the next installment faster. This is so obviously an opportunistic cash grab, and it’s insulting enough to see women so thoroughly dismissed and vilified, but to know it’s not even bc he believes it is such a slap in the face.

He made the most incendiary, controversial, hateful thing he could think of, knowing they would eat it up and pay him for it. It’s so slimy and greedy. What an absolute pig
