Shakarian ⢠G (may change) ⢠Chapter 1/?
After connecting to a beacon Shepard wakes up to a new life in a remote colony. She struggles to reconcile with the past she remembers and the present she is experiencing all while navigating her bond with Garrus. Over time she learns about the past, her future and her feelings.
āAny chance heās sending us down to a tropical island to enjoy some shore leave?ā Garrus joked, holding the breakfast out like an offering, which Shepard gratefully accepted.
āBetter. An underground bunker filled to the brim with mercenaries.ā
āYou never take me anywhere nice.ā
Shepardās cheeks warmed. The coffee was nice. āIāll make it up to you.ā
She had a lot to make up for. Making him join an anti-alien terrorist organization, dragging him back and forth across the galaxy to fight all kinds of monsters, not letting him take the shot against Sidonis: the list was getting long. She could get him that Widow he was eyeing last time they were on the Citadel. That would do the trick.
āHe wants me to connect to a beacon they found." Shepard tried to sound casual about it.
Garrusā mandibles pressed against his face. āI donāt like it.ā
He was one of the few people in the galaxy who had seen exactly what it looked like when she deciphered 50,000 year old bio data with her mind. It may not have been as dramatic as her first encounter with the prothean technology but it still wasn't her best look. Lotās of sweat, eyes rolling to the back of her head and a killer migraine.
Shepard leaned back against the wall across from him. āI donāt like it either but what if the Illusive Man is right and it can help us?ā
āAnd if heās wrong and you get hurt? Thereās plenty of beacons out there. Thereās only one Shepard.ā
āStatistically, not true.ā She wasnāt even the only Shepard still in the Alliance.
He tilted his head. āYou know what I mean.ā
She did. They were in this mess to begin with because she was apparently the only person alive and dead that could deal with the reapers. And maybe more than that she understood why he was upset. She was pissed too but she didn't see the point in arguing. She was a resource, like the Illusive Man said. It was the reason he spent all those credits bringing her back. But there was no time to dwell on that.
Joker sent an updated ETA. They'd be orbiting Joab soon. She wolfed down the burrito and washed it down with the rest of her coffee.
Garrus laughed. "Now we know where Grunt gets it from."
Shepard nudged his shoulder towards the armory. āOh, Omega made you funny huh?ā
āSomeoneās gotta keep things light around here.ā
