Excellent. Here she is, being super brave:
It’s literally that simple
Friend: “hey my son can’t concentrate on his homework. He chooses to do literally anything else everytime. He said his head doesn’t feel like it.”
Me: “Did you give him music?”
Friend: “No! No tech until he’s done! He doesn’t need more distracted.”
Me:
“k, bring me the child”
*Go to her house*
*points to the obviously ADHD boy struggling with his homework*
Me: “so your head doesn’t feel like doing homework?”
Son: “yeah. It would rather do ANYTHING else.”
Me: *unwrapping earbuds* here, listen to this for an hour while you do it.
French voice: 1hr later
Son: “k I’m done! :-)”
Friend: “wow, what’d you give him? Concentra, Adderall, Ritalin‽”
Me: “Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics” and some lo-fi.
I-I’m gonna try this for myself
Go for it! From what I’ve seen, everyone has a different genre but instrumental (no words) seems to be key. I guess Sweet Dreams words are so ethereal, ADHD just rolls with it????
For me, orchestral covers of songs I know work best since my ADHD is using the extra hyperfocus to remember and keep up with words. Have fun experimenting!!
I have some arrangements of songs I did that I just loop. Mind you, these are, like, 1-3 minutes long, but the drone really helps with focus
Y'all I just listen to Lana Del Rey. Would recommend because with instrumentals I tend to focus on where actual words would be but with Lana’s stuff her vocals sound like music but it’s words
really wish I could’ve done this when I was spending 4 hours on every page of math homework in the 90′s. Fast forward to my last year of college when I finally figured out I could just listen to Blackmill and blaze through an entire semester of college math like it was nothing. Find the study methods that work for you!!! Help kids find the study methods that work for them!
It takes me all day to do simple chores because i keep getting distracted. If i put in earbuds with upbeat music I’m done with everything in a couple hours AND i feel really good and probably danced a little i.e. exercised.
Try songs in another language - one you don’t speak. The idea is that since you don’t understand the words, your brain doesn’t go “Oh hey, someone is talking to me” and thus you can maintain your focus. Although, this is something probably best suited to writing. But on the other hand, if it works, it works. Personally, I like Opera. BUT, I advise against using Pandora’s Opera Station. At least in the free version, it either cycles through the same ten Singers/Albums or drifts off into instrumental covers. On the other hand, it’s great for background noise when gaming. Just be sure you have an ad blocker running. You will also have to confirm that you are listening every hour or so.
Followup on the lofi front: I recommend the following channels. Chillhop Music: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOxqgCwgOqC2lMqC5PYz_Dg
In particular, I recommend the relax/study livestream radio. Or just about any of their mixes. Fantasic Music: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZyyXrEF2WCZbI653PFNBbA Both the Chill and the Jazz playlists are excellent. Jazzhop Cafe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi8wqezBudeAiTdKOX571ug
Their ChillMix videos are the best. Jazzhop Cafe Archive: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKbD–QKXKosHmSXarqYUeg Name is self-evident. I believe ChilledCow also has a livestream, but I honestly prefer Chillhop. YMMV https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSJ4gkVC6NrvII8umztf0Ow
EDIT: Oh, Pandora’s Vitamin String Quartet IS good, but it tends to drift off into New Age type stuff. Adblocker thing still applies though.
Here is my personal ADHD get shit done playlist. It’s mostly film and game soundtracks.
I use orchestra covers of video game music and the LOTR soundtrack
I also find jazz, city pop, and vaporwave work well for this purpose too. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons also got me through many a college paper back in the day.
I use Pokemon music or Youtube readings of reddit stories to do my work.
Pokemon works great for me too, i also have a couple other songs from video games i like to listen to
Headphones are essential for this, I’ve found. Don’t play the music through your speakers.
I love:
Videogame Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zkE-fxN-gE
ADHD Relief Music: Polyrhythmic Music for Focus and Studying: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXC6AUbY69A
A variation: I don’t know if I would get any chores done without audiobooks…
My husband recommends
myNoise sets the standard for online background noise machines and interactive soundscapes.
as there are many options for looping sounds, fully customizable, categorized by what they’re good for, no ads, and can sometimes be played with screen locked. It’s truly wonderful.
Ooo time for me to drop my secret anti-ADHD bullshit weapon!!
Sometimes with ADHD I really do just need rain noises or lo-fi beats or instrumental stuff, and sometimes I need the music equivalent of being hit by a truck made of candy carrying 16 tons of high-octane fruity energy drinks. That’s where this playlist comes in. It’s the closest I can get to just blasting serotonin directly into grey matter and it works wonders when I really need to get something done but doing it sounds worse than stepping on white hot metal lego bricks. I hope it can help y'all as well!
Aka: My friends think I’m unhinged, since these songs help me concentrate. These songs are straight fire. Hit shuffle and enjoy! (Constant w
i'm late for both nonbinary day of visibility and make a terrible comic day, so here is an occasionless nonbinary shitty comic
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are so mad because they get no women. if you are a Good Person a woman will appear and suck your dick.
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are all sooo poorrrr and stupid. They are stupid because they are poorrrr, racism would never exist in my suburban area
Popular leftist voice: these right wingers must have brain damage. They must be bigots because they are literally reta suffering from blsck mold, or brain damage.

genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.
via ered.bsky.social, the only kinds of unethical fiction:
people in the replies are going "what about books glorifying unethical things" and "what if it's propaganda" and you, my friends, are who this comic was made for
a lot of people assume psychosis hallucinations are super intense all-consuming horror movie shit like the memes about the hat man or always horrible debilitating things that make you dangerous to be around
but in my experience 95% of my hallucinations are getting spooked by very clearly hearing someone knocking on my door or calling my name from another room or hearing footsteps walking behind me which are "just" my brain recreating the horror of an abusive childhood
i *have* gotten the "bugs crawling all over me" hallucination once or twice though and yeah that one is exactly as terrible horrible as it sounds AUGH
(not trying to put you on blast specifically, you're just a good example to jump off of)
media and pop culture hypes up psychosis a lot as The Worst That Can Happen out of sanism, so even when you try and filter that cultural bias out you still assume it's based on something
when, no, psychosis is actually very simple: it's just hyperactive pattern matching. it's your brain's signal-to-noise ratio being off balance, it's seeing images in random static. it's not always this special uniquely big thing, it's in fact quite mundane a lot of the time.
no one is immune to psychosis, it's not purely the realm of the insane. anyone is one bad night of sleep or one bad case of food poisoning or one bad fever away from being just like me on my worst days.
and this, indeed, is why solidarity with the insane is so important: you, yes you too, are just one bad day from joining us, and no perceptions of being a "temporarily embarrassed sane person" will save you from the oppression of the psychiatric institution.
Yall the point is that sex toys need to be in a sex store not a pharmacy. Also five year olds these days can in fact read, three year olds these days can read I work in a daycare I have seen it. And why would there be a sex toy AISLE in a PHARMACY in a DRUG STORE?? I’m so??? Sex toys don’t belong in drug stores.
I grew up in pennsylvania, which has pretty stringent liquor laws, so it was absolutely wild to me the first time I walked into a grocery store in california and they had ALCOHOL. RIGHT THERE. NEXT TO THE FOOD. I was shooketh, may I tell you! Alcohol belongs in The Alcohol Store! Why would you treat it as something you can just... purchase! With money and an ID! RIGHT THERE IN PUBLIC! How was anyone not worried that kids might... reach out and TOUCH a bottle!!
I got over it.
Anyway drugstores (in the US) also dispense birth control medications and viagra, sell tampons, antifungals, condoms, and all manner of hygiene products incl. douching kits. Makes perfect sense to me that they'd also sell sex toys. They've got everything else you'd put on your junk.
Eh, five year olds can read, but they're unlikely to be squirrelly about things unless the grown-up in question models squirrelly-ness.
Like, if I had been out shopping seven years ago, it would have gone like this.
Kiddo: For . . . her . . . peas . . . Me: It says "for her pleasure" but that's just for adults. Kiddo: Can I have a lollipop? Can we both have lollipops? I'm bored. Me: We will pick up the lollipops on our way out at the checkout. Can you tell Mama what's next on the list? Kiddo: . . . Cog soup? Me: Good guess! Cough syrup. And no, I don't know why gh says f in this particular case, letters do weird things. Let's go.
… cog soup.
#pharmacies are selling sex toys because they sell sexual health items#the fact that they don't have to be coy about it is a good thing as it denotes a huge advancement in our collective social maturity#which i am not about to have taken away by people who can't be bothered to explain things to their children#did you pop them out expecting to never have to think through what you're saying to them?#skill issue
you're deeply overestimating how delicate children are about the abstract concept of sex, and deeply UNDERESTIMATING how interesting bathroom issues are to them. if your kid is idly reading box of condoms or a vibrator, all you have to do is wave hemorrhoid cream at them, and Old People Pooping Problems will become the immediate number one subject of conversation for the rest of the day.
It’s not even a “sex toy aisle” it’s like six overpriced non-representative vibrators on the top shelf above some lubes, condoms, pregnancy tests, and cranberry extract gummies. Bog standard stuff that loads of people need just for comfortable vanilla sex, none of it is exciting.
Reblog for pharmacies to start selling Bad Dragon toys and buttplugs with animal tails, just to make it awkward for the karens .
Hey btw worldbuilding thing:
When it comes to climates in fantasy settings, it's good to bear in mind that "normal" and "freaky" are a matter of where one grew up. There are things that only live in one climate, and not in another. It might feel tempting to make the people from the Scary Fucky Nightmare Climate not flinch at anything at all, but it's far more fun and realistic to make them frightened or at least unsettled by things they've never seen before. Doesn't matter if it's harmless to humans, What The Fuck Is That Thing And Why Is It Indoors.
Cold climates, for example, are dominated by warm-blooded creatures like mammals and birds. Your big nordic valkyrie warrior woman whose first baby chew toy was a bear skull, and who once kicked a lynx in the face for trying to get her little brother, would not be chill about the concept of a lizard as big as a squirrel, or a spider bigger than her thumb. These two examples are the biggest upper limit hypothetical examples of absurdly large reptiles and invertebrates that they could possibly imagine.
on the topic of romantic consent. people saying “oh you like them don’t you” or just insisting you have romantic feelings for someone, I feel that breaches romantic consent. it especially sucks because if you say “no I don’t like them” people treat that as confirmation that you actually do and they try to force you into it. imagine doing that with sex. that’d be so fucked up. but since it’s romance it doesn’t matter, apparently
!!!!! EXACTLY
funny how many times you can say aromantic in a post specifically about aromanticism that is tagged with aromantic tags and STILL have people going “haha i love my ace frens” like okay awesome but who even mentioned asexuality
ok it's time to get controversial and brave again. i genuinely believe that tropes like characters getting set up on dates by their friends without their knowledge, fake dating where one party is hesitant or outright opposed but eventually catches feelings, the same except it's "friends with benefits to lovers" etc. should be considered (and labelled as) a form of dubious consent. completely okay to explore in fiction, HIGHLY questionable and often morally fucked to try and do in real life. "character a thinks they don't like character b but after being forced to spend time with them they catch feelings" should be considered on the same level of dubious consent as "character a thinks they don't want to have sex with character b but after getting coerced into it, they end up enjoying it". something that should ONLY happen in the realm of fiction, and when possible, should be EXPLICITLY LABELLED AS DUBIOUS CONSENT.
i get why sexual consent is always on the forefront of people's minds, i get that on some levels it IS more serious than romantic consent (i.e. having something physically done to you as opposed to being forced into something socially), but it honestly pisses me off that romantic harassment and coercion is treated as a cute trope and not like. a serious topic that, if explored in fiction, needs to be tagged properly. i'm tired of reading fics with what, to me, very clearly reads as dubcon or even non-con romance, and then not having the author tag it as that at all, acting like it's a light and fun topic and not something that can leave a person in real life with life long trauma.
Ch👏
I really appreciate seeing it without the lion costume, so you can see what an AMAZING feat of athleticism it truly is.

Oh hang on.
Fuck you
i know i haven't hit rock bottom yet because i still have x reader tags filtered on here
huh. those rocks sure do look awfully close all of a sudden.
when ralsei comes out as trans all of the people who refuse to gender kris correctly will suddenly have a really easy time using they/them for someone
