listen no matter how depressed I am whenever this post shows up on my dash I fucking lose it I just laugh so hard, it’s such a good post. The way it’s presented? Soap on a sink nozzle, okay clearly this is some sort of handwashing appliance. Then there’s just water going everywhere no further explanation it’s so good I’m so happy
top five most important things you can give a character. 1. bisexuality. 2. autism. 3. so much negative rizz it loops around into irresistibility. 4. so many bad events. 5. a coping mechanism that’s cute and silly provided you don’t think about it too hard
i've been holding on to this comic for almost a year and i think it's still the funniest thing i've ever drawn. happy pride 🏳🌈
There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.
given the current climate this pride especially i feel i must mention that i love my trans friends, i stand with trans people in the fight against transphobic legislation and those who would enforce it, and this blog is not a good place for you to be if you do not vibe with that
imagine if you will, a fairly dry survival crafting game in which you live in a bunker and must periodically venture out to scavenge food, set up turrets for attacking monsters, etc
now, your computer inside the bunker has a game-inside-a-game on it which is a charming farming sim of undeniably greater quality and scope than the survival game you're playing. therefore, the object of the game becomes to keep your bunker secure so you can play the farming game more.
now, once you achieve the highest rating in the farming game, a secret shop inside it unlocks, and one of the novelty items you can purchase is a game console, giving you access to games-inside-a-game-inside-a-game. most of the games for it are typical mobile shovelware, but one of them is a highly polished, extremely brutal precision platformer with amazing level design and production values exceeding that of the survival game and farming sim combined.
it is only at this point that the purpose of this entire contrivance becomes clear: to create the most deranged speedrun community the world has ever seen.
Luffy is so fascinating when you examine him through the lense of a "chosen one" narrative.
Bc, let's be clear, the Nika fruit literally chose him. Zoan types have a will of their own, and it had been hiding for 800 years, when it suddenly picked this snot nosed kid to bestow it's power to
And at first, it seems like a really cliche, boring writing choice, right?
Bc one of Luffy's biggest strengths as a character was how he wasn't special. He's just a guy who wants to go on adventures with his friends. And even after his family is revealed - well, Garp and Dragon have so little to do with him that they barely even matter. Each of them are just doing their own thing completely irrelevant to the others
But it turns out Luffy had been special all along! He's actually a god! What a boring twist.
Except... That's not exactly the case here.
Most "chosen one" narratives have the character be special from birth. They have unique, special powers no one else has, or they're a reincarnation of some greater thing, or they're the last of a special bloodline of people, or they're a natural born prodigy, or they're secretly part demon/monster, etc.
None of these things are due to the character's own choices. These are things outside of their control and just happen to them. They're chosen to be special for plot purposes, and a lot of the time, the focus is on how the character deals with the unique hand they've been dealt with.
This is not the case with Luffy.
Throughout the series, intentional or not, Luffy has saved countless lives and become a symbol of hope and freedom for many, many characters. He values freedom deeply, and will fight to the death to help those he cares about, regardless of the consequences. And he's done it all while being an absolute fucking goofball and never forgetting his sense of fun.
None of these traits have anything to do with his devil fruit powers.
Luffy was chosen by the fruit not because he was born special - but bc his personality, beliefs, and actions demonstrated, without question, that he was exactly the kind of person that the Nika fruit had been waiting 800 years to find.
