if you’re on tumblr and over the age of 24 it means the mental illness won
Scheduled for my when I turn 24. The day right now is June 8th 2022. I have my finals in 10 days, and I'm writing my WIP in the dead of night.
romance should be like stardew valley where everyday i give you a red chili pepper and in return you stop verbally abusing me
romance should be like stardew valley where everyday i give you a cup of coffee and in return you stop billing me every time i pass out in the skull cavern
i'm the opposite of a gatekeeper i'm a gateopener. if u like my outfit i'll tell you exactly where i got it and for how much so you don't get robbed, if you like the music i listen to i'll give you recs of more like it, if you like my diy little decoration thingy i'll give you a step by step guide on where to find the stuff to do it yourself, if you like my book i'll put a price alert for this specific edition so i can let u know once it reached the price ur waiting for to buy it. sharing is caring and i love you, random stranger
Them: Oh that's nice, where did you get [thing]?
Me: I'm glad you asked *opens up an entire marketing PowerPoint's worth of slideshows*
Perhaps minimalist design is so prevalent because we no longer have anything to say.
The Cultural Tutor
@legendofthehiddenbbc and her “every renovated house looks the same” tag.
I also see a weirdly patronizing attitude towards decorated architecture and furniture
like. I was actually told by someone on here that preferring Art Nouveau design to modernism is a sign of immaturity. no joke
so there’s this strange idea we seem to have in the back of our collective mind now that detailed/decorated = childish?
(I agree, though, with the take in the notes that it’s less because we have nothing to say and more because a blank and unremarkable slate is easier to put up quickly and wipe clean as needed for Runaway Capitalism Purposes)
#well and also lbr. details cost money. #can’t have that. a flat board you slap in place takes less to make than the same board with a decorative detail etched. #a chair leg that curves is more work than a chair leg that tapers but is straight is more work than a straight leg. #so the less you spend on detail the more money you make. #not like. you personally. obviously. but you the megacorp. you the shareholders. you the capitalist. #also yes things that can serve as a Blank Neutral Canvas is much better. #you don’t want a blocky grey couch (the only one they sell) #but that means you need accent throws. means you need pillows. etc. #which have to be changed out every micro season. ideally. #like do most people do that? no obviously not we’re not made of money #but ideally. everyone owns blank furniture and buys an endless stream of cheap accent bits to Keep It Current #(also planned obsolescence many things that are Fancy like that literally require a level of substance that means it wears out SLOW. #your cheap ikea square though. it’s a square. you can’t make it fancier than that #because it’s made of illegally logged romanian timber and cardboard #but that also means it wears out like. fast. #so you buy another one. #makes the money happy :) (via @blackdogrunning)

I've survived too long. I forgot what universe this was. For a while there, I thought, maybe… this was the universe where we win sometimes.

Punctuating Dialogue
✧
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can ask be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations, dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”

I keep seeing posts like "don't ever buy books from Amazon, here's a bunch of libraries and library apps that have books, don't use Audible, get audiobooks from your local library" and like. yes support libraries I agree. but for self published authors, sometimes the literal only place you can get their books is through Amazon/Audible. most of the time they're not gonna be at your local library or on library apps. and I'm not sure what to...do about that? but I feel like it's something to consider when making those sweeping statements. and no the solution here is not "just find something else to read/don't read self published authors."
And it truly doesn't cheat the Amazon system. The book needs to sell well in order to be considered library worthy. My library doesn't have 80% of the books I want to read. So it's either Amazon Kindle or Google Play books or Apple because I don't want to pirate it. And again, you won't find the book in the brick and mortar stores and B&N if the book doesn't perform as expected.
My guess is to scroll down to the publisher part of Amazon and look up the publishing house. If it's just been published and it's a very small publishing company, I'll gladly purchase it from Amazon, but if it's a very well-known book, I'll try public libraries first. But for the love of God atleast don't return it.
I’m gonna write such a good story that’s gonna make you have so many feelings and there’s nothing you can do about it.

That relatable (older) Gen Z memory: when all the projectors and white boards got replaced by Smart Boards™ around like fifth grade and none of the teachers knew how to use them but they Had To Use them otherwise the school just wasted a bunch of money and it was a rlly weird transition
an addition: when they calibrated the board by pressing the dots and everyone in class lost their minds
this how I know I’m really a millennial cause I have no idea wtf y'all are talking about

oh chen chen we’re really in it now…
A dating service where matching is based on people’s search history exists. You’re a serial killer. You go on a date with a writer.
Serial Killer: metaphorically, if you were to kill someone, how would you do it?
Writer: Air shot between the toes, it’ll look like a heart attack.
Serial Killer who is obviously in love already: *sucks in a breath* ok
Writer: how long would it take to die if you were to potentially stab someone in the guts
Serial killer: anywhere from 2 to 30 minutes
Writer, already bringing a ring out: *shaking* thanks
A++ addition
Writer: *shows the serial killer the murder scene they’re writing* babe, i’m not sure if this would actually work?
Serial killer: *kisses writer on the forehead and leaves, comes back later, a suspicious scent of blood coming off them* it works baby, you’re doing great
I LOVE THIS
Oh no, murder comedy is my jam
I love this, I love all of this, but quick question, does the author know? Like are they aware that their significant other is a serial killer or do they just think that they have a morbid sense of humor? It’d be even funnier if the author had no fucking clue, like how Aurthur Conan Doyle was apparently stupidly gullible, and on top of it they’re a horror or crime novelist. Like the serial killer works at a butcher shop or something so it’s completely normal for them to come home smelling like blood, no murders going on here, no sirey. Just my darling coming back home from a long day at work.
Now fast forward a bit and the author has managed to get their first book published, with loving support from the serial killer who helped them fine tune all the murder scenes, and it’s a big hit. Enough so that a detective with the local police department has noticed some disturbing similarities to several active cases, including details that were never released to the press. Obviously he brings this up to his superior and convinces him that there’s something to the theory, but it’s all circumstantial right now. He stakes out the author’s home and is super convinced that the author is the murderer, but they don’t seem to do anything??? Like they literally are at the house all day, that’s it. Most they do is leave for groceries.
So you get this dynamic of the serial killer mining the author for creative murder schemes, the author being lovingly encouraged by the serial killer, and finally the detective who is just so sure that the author is the killer and that if he sticks it out long enough he’ll FINALLY have proof.
Plot twist, The serial killer and detective use to go out so it gets sub what personal.
“You need to stop seeing them. I think they are a serial killer.”
Serial killer breaths in. “Look-”
…perfect
I don’t like actual murder mysteries, but this is perfect
