"The nonbinary afab who goes by she/her, dresses femininely, and uses a push-up bra when I—" when you what? What's wrong with her?
Is she not nonbinary enough for you? Is the way she experiences her queerness and how she presents not perfect enough for you? Nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny, right? So why is she the exception? Why does she have to hate herself to appeal to your standards? Why is she any less trans—any less worthy of respect—cause it's "not visible"? Queer solidarity my ass. Don't spout this bullshit on Pride, man.
This, but also for enby amabs going by he/him and with hairy chests and beards
I explained the concept of "blorbo from my shows" to my 71 year old immigrant grandfather because I referenced it in passing and I thought nothing of it, until today when he said "I think I'll watch peaky blinders tonight and see my blorbo from my shows" referring, of course, to Cillian Murphy playing Tommy Shelby
English isn't his first language so he's not super in touch with modern slang, so I've been accidentally teaching him to talk like a tumblr user. His favorite thing to say lately is "me when I'm a little hater" when he's like talking shit about the neighbor's son
I explained the “x before gta6” meme to my immigrant father and he, in turn, explained to me how back in his day in Romania, they had the same type of joke, except instead of it being gta6, it was about the imminent death of a singer named Gică Petrescu, who everyone was continuously shocked by because he refused to die. Every time a momentous event happened people would say, in essence: “This happened and Gică Petrescu hasn’t even died yet?!?”
So. He understood the gta6 meme immediately because they apparently had the same thing in Romania when he was young, except way, way more morbid
OP are you telling me we got the death of Gică Petrescu before we got gta6
He got past the first three games, though
The first three games? Grand Theft Auto IV was the sixth (main) game in the series.
GTA3 came out in 2001 (it's non-binary, because it's 3D 😉) and then GTA: Vice City in 2002, and GTA: San Andreas in 2004.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — the third 3D entry in the series, and the fifth GTA game — happened, and Gică Petrescu hadn't even died yet?!?
Oh, sorry, I didn't know where the spin-offs were and just went through the numbered titles
Jenny Joseph became the face of Columbia Pictures (1992).
since mrs, ms, and mr are all descended from the latin word magister, i propose the gender neutral version should be mg, short for "mage"
some people think this is a shitpost so i want to clarify that i am dead fucking serious. make mage the official gender neutral honorific NOW. i want it on my passport. i want it on my bank account. i want doctors and judges to use it for me. i don't care if it sounds a little silly. people thought "missus" sounded crass at first. call me mg.
benefits of mg:
easy to pronounce, even for children (though kids 4 & younger may pronounce it more like "mayd" or "maygh")
ONE SYLLABLE!!! ("individual" is too goddamn LONG.) you have to be able to say it quickly and casually
ends in a soft consonant sound, so it'll flow right into the next word ("ind" halts the whole sentence)
fits neatly into the existing structure as a relative of master/mistress that can be abbreviated down to an m and one other letter
distinct enough that it can't be mistaken for either gendered term (if you call me mix I'll kill you. it sounds like miss with extra steps)
wizard.
drawbacks:
there aren't any
yes, i know about milligrams and magnesium. i don't give a shit. ms can also mean microsoft. who cares.
One of my favorite things about having a degree in biochemistry is going undercover at a store like Sephora. I can read the composition of the cosmetics and actually understand them. There’s no words to describe how great it feels. It’s like being in on an inside joke or secret
The main thing I observe is that a lot of employees recommend makeup that is chemically incompatible. For example, if you ask them to recommend you a foundation and concealer, a lot of times they’ll pick two products that are chemically immiscible, so they’ll NEVER blend together successfully.
Generally foundation/concealer is either water or silicone based. There are upsides to each based on your needs. However, water and silicone are immiscible, and so if your foundation is water based but your concealer is silicone based, you will never get a good blend between these products. You’ll have to go back to switch to something that works.
If you want to test for this in-store, mix the two on the back of your hand. If they form a uniform mixture, they’re miscible. If they separate, they’re chemically incompatible, and should not be used together. You can do this for any number of skin products. Primers, moisturizers, foundations, concealers, contour sticks, etc etc. Anything that comes in liquid or paste form.
You don’t need to understand all the chemicals on the label to run this experiment!
As someone in pharmaceutical sciences I also experience similar things, so a hint from me: collagen is useless. In a cream it will not penetrate the skin, so doesn't do anything. As a food supplement, lemme tell you a secret: collagen is a protein. And when you eat protein, your stomach thinks its food and chops it up, so it can be used to make your own protein. Collagen is just expensive protein powder, and doesn't do anything meat or a veggie substitute does.
Important note: I am not an expert in the field of psychiatry and I am talking about a fictional character. If someone knows more and sees that I made a mistake in the interpretation, please tell me about it.
If I put aside all my ideas about Armand, all the theories about his behavior that were strongly based on the book, and look only at the show, then it becomes quite obvious that Armand has CPTSD with DID. And not only in season 3, this is visible, if I go back to the first two seasons, then I realize that it was visible there, but the scale was unclear.
The very first thing that comes to mind is "I could not prevent it." There were so many memes about how Armand couldn't handle Sam, get out of the box, and stop the trial. I myself preferred to hope that this was Armand's plan, that this helplessness was a theatrical performance to get what he wanted. But if I really take these words as a fact? If Armand was really convinced that he couldn't have prevented it? The essence of this helplessness and inability to make decisions doesn't come from the current state, strength, abilities and capabilities. It's all about the past, it's all about childhood, it's all about Marius. As a child, Armand could try to fight, but obviously it never helped, it only made the situation worse. When you repeatedly try to fight, and your will is broken, the feeling that you can at least control something in your life breaks down, stop something, say "no" and you will be heard, physically fight and win. It's not that Armand is now a strong and old vampire, but that Arun was a child and couldn't escape. It's hard for me to keep in mind that show!Armand spent twelve years with Marius, not two. Terrible damage has been done to Armand's mind in two years, and it's hard to imagine what happened in twelve years. Book!Armand continued to fight and defend the part of himself that still remained, even though Marius took away Armand's memories of life with his family. And the colossal defining difference between Andrei and Arun is that the family loved Andrei. His father loved him, searched for him, and grieved for him, just like his mother. And Andrei had the opportunity to see his family and say goodbye to them. But Arun is completely deprived of this. He remembers that his family sold him to slavers, he was not abducted, he was sold. He has no safe thoughts about his family, no feeling that they loved him.
When I read TVA, I thought it couldn't get any worse. But show!Armand's situation is even worse.
That if Armand really developed DID against the background of CPTSD, that if "Armand", "Amadeo" and "Arun" exist separately, then "Armand" has been active all the time since being tortured and becoming a member of the Santino cult, when he became a coven master in Paris, when he was the director of the theater. Louis forcibly pulled out "Arun", involving Armand in an unhealthy dynamic, I emphasize, an unhealthy d/s dynamic. It seems to me that it was not "Arun" per se, but "Amadeo" pretending to be "Arun". And I will assume that "Amadeo" managed the situation during season 1 during the interview, and "Armand" during season 2, because he opened himself to Daniel and at the same time felt the need to protect himself from Daniel.
"Armand" and "Amadeo" are products of trauma designed to protect "Arun" by aggression or seduction, but they are the result of the expectations of others - "Armand" for Santino and "Amadeo" for Marius. And all the further attempts of Armand's relationship with someone were a desire to return to the dynamics of "Amadeo" and Marius.
But now some time have passed in which Armand was alone, for the first time in hundreds of years he stopped being a reflection of other people's desires, so "Arun" reappeared. But he feels bad, he feels lonely, abandoned and unprotected, so he looks for a new group of people to join, he comes to AA, where there is a clear structure that can help him determine his behavior, because he himself doesn't feel the ability to make decisions or react to what is happening in an adequate way. Following the Steps gives him structure, he writes letters to ask for forgiveness. But that's not really an apology.
We didn't hear the letter to Daniel, but we did hear the letter to Lestat. Armand offers Lestat a new perspective on what happened between them, he offers to elevate Lestat and humiliate himself if it helps to fix the situation. This is an understandable scheme of action for him, he knows how to act with such a distribution of roles, this is again an attempt to become "Amadeo" for someone.
And I assume that "Arun" acted in all this, because he didn't defend himself from the attacks of Daniel and Lestat, he just listened to it, didn't stop it, because he didn't feel able to do it. Now he has returned to an aggressive environment for him, but "Armand" has not yet managed to appear to protect "Arun". So he goes to a concert, listens to Lestat's mocking song, and doesn't leave right away. His eyes start twitching and he leaves the concert with a quick, confident gait - it's "Armand" back. But when Daniel catches up with him, we see the lost, unsteady gait of "Arun," who later doesn't fight when Daniel pins him against the wall. But then "Armand" appears again when he tells Daniel about his feelings. Or maybe it was "Amadeo".
I myself have screamed so many times after reading TVA that he definitely has CPTSD after everything that happened, but I was not ready for it to be shown in the show, and in a rather severe form. And I know that many people have already talked about it, I've read some great fanfics about it. And yet, it was only this week that I realized that I had previously perceived Armand's mind as inseparable. But what if it's not? Is the idea of CPTSD with DID so surprising? After everything Armand has been through, it's amazing that he still functions and is able to communicate with others.
And I don't think Armand hopes, after all these years, that anyone will understand him. He told his story twice in the show, to Lestat and Louis, but in the first case it ended with contempt and mockery, and in the second case with exploitation.
The point of this whole esse is that it is very painful for me to see "Arun" without any protection under a hail of ridicule and insults. I hope that "Armand" will appear again to protect him.
the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.
This is what I think about when people ask what the meaning of life is
Rool
all tumbrlinas come from a common ancestor
There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"
The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.
We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...
Nobody has ever been capable of writing a scathingly harsh and well formulated satire about the perils of modern capitalism, that doesn't just get immediately one-upped by some random food service worker talking about their actual week.
trans women should not have to be sexy to you for you to respect them. Aaaaaand post
Peak trans woman experience is knowing you can remove the word trans from any sentence about our struggle and everyone will easily recognize it as a true and valid battle against patriarchy. But the moment trans is inserted back and we get radio silence from half the people who would otherwise agree. If we're lucky.

australian sour patch kids have gluten in them i am truly at my fucking limit im crashing out im waging war against wheat idgaf anymore
oh is that one of those things where ableist companies put in traces of common allergens so they can just avoid the cost of making it safe
WHAT
A trend we predicted in 2016 continues.
US based but it’s similar reasons in other countries. and of course many companies have international locations. idk if that’s why it’s happening with sour patch kids but this is a thing
I cannot even explain how ANGRY I am at this.
My nephew is very allergic to eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. Last year my sister discovered all hot dogs and hamburger buns now contain sesame. Not "may contain", but listed in the ingredients. This year basically every brand of sliced bread also now contains sesame, making it very difficult to find bread items he can eat.
They're just adding it to their products, so they can just list it as an ingredient and not bother with worrying about cross contamination. And they aren't even bothering with telling anyone. Capitalism is going to kill us all.
"Which brings us back to Kellogg’s. Back in 2016, the company found a way around the added burden and expense of complying with the FSMA: they simply began adding trace amounts of peanut flour to their cracker products. Doing so allowed them to list peanuts as an ingredient of the product, freeing them from having to prevent cross-contact.
At the time, Kellogg’s notified Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) about the impending change and left it to them to warn the allergic community. In this case, Pearson’s didn’t even bother as near as we can tell."
I wonder if that’s part of the reason behind my seeing an upswing in products adding corn starch or corn flour to things that didn’t have those before? <- rhetorical question, because I’m certain that’s what’s going on.
