the thing about capitalism is that at a certain point a product reaches its maximum audience and cant really be improved (at least not while remaining profitable), but capitalism requires a product provide infinite growth, and at that point the only way to increase profits is to raise prices, cut corners, and in the case of services start adding advertisements. this is just how the system works.

While watching a DVD from the library my TV popped up a message saying to press a button if I wanted to watch this from additional providers.

It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.

One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.

Fucking hell! Remember when every fucking device in your life wasn't a spy implanted in your home and working against your interests to try and sell your data? Remember how nice that was??

PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.

You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.

so Treasure Planet has been absolutely DEVOURING my brain for the past two-ish weeks and I've watched so many reaction videos to it and watched the dvd commentary and things twice and something I haven't seen anybody else mention is that way that Jim steadily gets taller throughout the movie

This scene is right after the Benbow gets burned down, and Jim is noticeably shorter than his mom here (and if you look carefully it's not because he's slouching, he's standing relatively straight up here (also good lord how tall is Doppler???))

But then in this scene after the journey when he reunites with his mom, even though he's leaned down a little bit for a hug they look like they're about the same height

And then here in the epilogue scene he looks to be just a little taller than her. And I'm not sure how much of this was entirely intentional because it's not something mentioned on the DVD commentary, but it feels like a nice touch in terms of both accuracy (because many fifteen-year-old boys still have some height left to grow) and as like a physical representation of his character growth, where he gets a lot taller over the course of the journey on the ship when he's doing a lot of character development and then only gets a little taller between coming back and the epilogue, where there's less development but still him making new choices. it's just another cool thing about the movie that i've never seen anyone point out
