Can someone explain to me why in the fuck the Wizarding Council just banned "Summon Greater Xylophone?!" How on Earth was that spell being used such that it was bannable?

It was overshadowing "Summon Grand Piano", and the creator of that spell has a lot of sway in the council.

The official reason is supposed to be that the spell is too open to modification mid-cast and can allow infernal influences through if done in an insecure plane or next to too many resonance objects, but that's true of like 99% of summoning spells, so yeah it's pretty much definitely the piano guy.

Most of the fishes people think of as "freaky deep sea fish", with enormous eyes and bioluminescent spots, are not, strictly speaking, abyssal*, but from the intermediate mesopelagic and bathypelagic zones, which still have enough of a smidgen of sunlight that large eyes are useful to capture it, and bioluminescence is a useful form of communication. In the proper abyssopelagic zone, there is no light at all, and most organisms don't bother having eyes in the first place.

* The formal classification is:

Epipelagic zone (upper 200 m): abundant sunlight and thus photosynthesis; the vast majority of marine biodiversity lives here. Much of it is over the submerged parts of continents, rather than ocean floor proper.

Mesopelagic/twilight zone (200-1000 m): reached by less than 1% of sunlight, enough to see with powerful eyes but insufficient for photosynthesis. Most bioluminescence is here. Less biodiverse but there is an enormous biomass grazing on the bottom of the epiplagic zone.

Bathypelagic/midnight zone (1000-4000 m): no significant light left, but some bioluminescence and thus eyesight is still found.

Abyssopelagic zone (4000-6000 m): perpetual darkness, rich in sinking organic detritus but poor in oxygen, which comes only from sinking cold water.

Hadopelagic zone (6000-11,000 m): the interior of subduction trenches, e.g. the Marianas Trench, which go deeper than the usual ocean floor.
