04.27.25 - Happy Death Day, Jason
This is based on a MFM Minisode where someone wrote in to say their Grandma's funeral had these little cards saying to keep in touch and had a Ouija board on the back 🤣
Bruce is probably crying off-screen after this moment. Also it was a bad time when Dick found out Jason had died so... it's up to Cass to hold things together lol
Thanks to @byrdsofthenyte I learned when his death day was lol and thanks to the JD server, I crunched this out in a couple hours and streamed with some lovely people ;w; I'm so tired lol
Shout out to Jason Todd happy death day :) 🫶
It’s past midnight for me, which means it’s August 24th, which means Danny’s death day.
“Neb, why August 24th? Is it when the first episode aired?” Nope. It’s when the last episode aired. I felt the last episode’s air date was fitting for a death day idk. Sorry it’s not colored I just felt it was fitting. I’ve also never made an illustration with this perspective before so it was a learning experience.
I was gonna do a comic, but decided to do an illustration on what the others do on his death day.
His electrocution scar becomes visible and he gets lost in a vision of when he died, reliving it in his mind. They’re all there to comfort him when he wakes up and help him with the pain. I know it’s probably horrible for Jay, but I left him out of the other one so I decided to draw them all this time. Also Cole’s having flashbacks to his mom being sick in bed.
Me: something is in the air today
Me:*checks tumblr to be reminded that Jason died today*
Me: that’s it T-T
Happy death day jaybin they never should have killed you!!!
1934 short film Death Day (Día de Muertos) edited from footage shot by Sergei Eisenstein for his unfinished project ¡Que viva México!.
A dp concept I think would be interesting is combining the significance of graves for ghosts with painful Death Days.
Graves are important because they give the ghosts a place to work through their trauma of dying. A literal resting place of their death. Meanwhile ghosts that don't have a grave or whose graves are destroyed, are instead forced to relive their death each Death day as its the only way for them to process the trauma.
Combine this with Danny being a halfa, he wouldn't know about this and might go through several years with horrible Death days. Then maybe he destroys another ghosts grave by mistake during a fight and the ghost shows up in Amity, completely frantic because their Death day is approaching and they need a new grave before that. Danny and his friends help build it a new grave and learn about their significance at the same time.
After the ghost has returned to the Zone, his friends and Jazz build a grave for Danny as well. Once its completed, he feels a peace inside himself unlike any he'd felt since he died. Any chance he gets, Danny loves to rest by his grave and his friends often find him curled up cuddling the headstone. Or, if he's completely gone, they know he's curled up in the empty casket for a nap.
On his next Death Day, he and his friends just hang out for hours at his grave and for the first time its not a day wretched in fear and pain, but in quiet mourning and the love of family
