Diplomatic Overtures pt 2

"Any luck yet??

Dr. Fate turned his head toward the windows overlooking the planet. The conference had petered to halt with his arrival but only the Flash spoke.

"Rumors only. That he has been taken by the legions of hell. No evidence of our compatriots existence in hell has been confirmed as of yet."

"That's concerning," Hal muttered. "Doesn't hell own a good chunk of his soul?"

"John has an affinity for escaping all matter of responsibility; but even the bill must come for him."

"Then we have lost our greatest resource. John has a working knowledge off all levels of the occult and bizarre. His involvement in this matter is of great urgency. Dr. Fate, who else can be consulted?"

"Wonder Woman," Captain Marvel spoke. "I may be able to talk to a few of my contacts, but John has made a lot of enemies. If they think it's a race to find him then he could be in even more danger."

Diana considered the dark haired man. "In truth, I believe he may have already met with one such enemy."

"He's not dead." Robin told the assemblage. "Deadman reported that as much. The House of Mysteries would know if he had truly died."

"Thank you, Robin." Superman rubbed at his forehead. "But with John missing, the diplomatic overtures from the Infinite Realms must be handled regardless."

"Even if we know nothing about them?"

"I'm not sure why that would change anything.' Marvel said quickly before an argument could erupt. "We still have our duty. It is simple as that."

"I can't disagree," Arthur sighed. "But it would be nicer to go in with information."

"I will consult with Detective Thorton. We've seen him in Gotham and we believe he's continuing his investigation. He may have more information to help arrange the meeting." Batman added.

"That's probably our best lead. We'll need to decide who will be going on our first meeting. Diana, of course."

"Batman should also attend. None have a better eye for intelligence and subterfuge."

"That may be the point." Batman intoned. "Detective Thorton appeared within Gotham and contacted me directly. I believe I am the leverage point he's using. Not simply because Ra's has continuously assaulted both Gotham and my family. No detective or investigator would take such a step or make an offer to meet with their ruler without prior authorization."

"The contact was deliberate...but someone who knew how to contact you and what to say to get you to agree." Superman rubbed his forehead. "And Marvel was right. The Infinite Realms wants something from us."

Silence fell as they considered what it might be.

"We know that the High King was imprisoned. That he was a known tyrant whose own retainers rebelled. If he has awakened and wanted to seek revenge then we would have already perished."

That was not a comforting thought.

The woman in an Edwardian maids outfit didn't hesitate to appear beside the Batsignal. Fading into existence and offering a faint curtsy to both Batman and Robin.

"Good evening..." Her expression wavered. "Sir, young master.'

"Well met," Robin sniffed.

"Ma'am. Your name?"

"I am Detective Ruth Barnes. I serve in the Inter-Dimensional Major Crimes with Detective Thoron. I am relieving his shift at the moment and have been instructed to assist with the investigation as necessary." Her hair was piled atop her head with the fashion of the day. Her ghostly uniform bearing signs of soot, dirt, and heavy, thick boot prints. It took every ounce of self-control not to cringe at the collapsed collar and chest under another stark print. He didn't have time to ask for identification as she offered with from within a deep pocket. It was the same at Thortons.

"Detective Barnes. You are within Gotham territory. Please enlighten me to what you have done so far." Robin offered a hand to politely lead her away from the light and toward the HVAC unit humming away. Detective Barnes smoothed out her skirts as she sat, a greenish blush over her cheeks.

"I am investigating the curse lines."

"The what?" Batman demanded.

"Curse lines. They're not unique to Gotham. Many cities in the world have them at the moment. Others are investigating Central, Star, Fawcett, Berlin, Paris, Sao Paulo, Nairobi. So many of them, but I'm working to isolate them between their type of curse and their source. Much like fungi, the limbs of curses will spread to where there is a food source and the most efficient route. Some cities are intersections of curses. Gotham being one of them. I must admit, Mr. Batman, I'm not the only detective in the city right now; but I am your contact."

"What does this have to do with the Demon's Head?"

'As one possessing both immortality and supreme hate, it is very possible for him be the epicenter of many curses."

Robin hummed to himself. "Which is why you're investigating....that is very wise, Detective."

She smiled. "Thank you."

"I have questions regarding the invitation from your king. If such a meeting is to take place we would appreciate an understanding of the expectations."

"Robin," Batman hissed, but Robin's gentle yet forthright manner left her smiling faintly.

"Well...I imagine it is like most diplomatic events. I don't know them myself, but you arrive ready to negotiate and talk. Like courting, the initial meeting isn't meant to be binding."

Batman could read beneath the words and settled back to let Robin work.

"I understand...then what advice can be given. My father will be attending negotiations and I am anxious he returns in one piece, mentally and physically."

"Manners, for one. I do understand that a bottle of fine wine may sway the consort."

"The king is married?"

"Hmmm, it was a shock when that happened. There is quite a difference of opinion between the two. They're quite the pair. Though, in my day it would have been considered scandalous."

"I understand. I will relay this information."

She smiled, ghostly hair drifting in the faint wind. "It is so wonderful to see that the world has heroes. There were none when I was alive....perhaps thins might have been different." One of her hands, cracked and bent, lifted to her chest. Something in Bruce's chest tightened.

"When you arrive," she continued. "Please be patient with our king...he has had a turbulent history with humans."

Robin scoffed. "Very well."

"What have you found about the curse lines?"

"Ah!" She produced a notebook from her pocket. It opened to a page which floated free, duplicated, and then before each Bat. "Please, take a look. It does work like an infection and the areas infected fight it; but as with every disease is spreads and replicates itself. It manifests as pain, misery, hatred, and suffering of all kinds."

"Gotham is cursed?"

"In a sense, but it is not overly special. There is more to do with Gothams misery than magic and a great deal with the realities of the world. It would be too simple to blame magic; though it would be nice."

"It would certainly make things easier." Bruce sighed faintly.

"But, like unclogging a drain, miseries can be cleared more quickly! Please, inspect these lines we've identified."

"This one is a lead pipe." Damian said. "Superman. He cannot see through lead and he had marked all of them on a map to be fixed at a later date."

"Removing the pipe will likely break that particular link."

"We may need up speed up that particular project." Damian muttered.

Once they returned to the cave, Bruce returned to the computer immediately. It didn't take too long to uncover the woman he'd met tonight.

"Father? What have you found on the detective?"

"She was a maid for a botanist. A Dr. Gene Todd who was known for his work with fungi. She was killed not long before he was awarded a prestigious position with his university."

"Then it is likely he utilized her intelligence for his work and killed her to take complete credit." Damian scoffed. "A coward and a murderer."

"That's more than likely. If these Infinite Realms are the backdoor into every afterlife then it is likely may of the people we encounter will be victims of something similar. We must be prepared."

Damian watched his father continue to work, wondering if his statement had been for Damian's sake or his own.

PT 3

Phantom Festival

Once a year, Amity Park is the scene of a massive ghostly festival, and Danny and the others enjoy it and have fun. Like if not Amity Park, all other places would be in hell or totally destroyed.

But the next day, the Blob-ghosts and others fix everything as they wake up. (Think of the party as What IF Thor's party).

And other people Danny meets during his time travel. From the wizard Mamaragan, Morrigan, Mordred, Vandal, Nabu, Hippolyta or Ra's. It's vacation week for them.

It was a huge party, and when the day and night were over, most of them left or went on holiday to Amity Park.

Toga-wearing Billy really wasn't sure how he felt about it. As he spent time with the other kids, he had many questions to ask his hero friends about the party they were having here when the wizard took him with him.

+ Dionysus is perfectly fine with people thinking he and Phantom are the same. The boy knows how to throw a good party and he has a whole new Cult Town.

This skit contains some spoilers of YJL, if you intend to watch it don't read it.

Picture this. In YJL's lore Dr Fate was previously a human, and he was Vandal's son. And Vandal made an alliance with Klarion, which Nabu didn't agree with and died because of it. That's what I'm using for my AU.

Now imagine Billy being in his teenage rebellion after Dr Fate adopted him.

Dr. Fate : You may be the champion of magic, but I am a Lord of Order and I know what's better. You will come with me on this mission.

Billy : So like, I cannot disagree with you ?

Dr. Fate : It's not an option.

Billy : I have the Wisdom of Solomon.

Dr. Fate : Right now, you are not even transformed. You will come with me.

Billy : So... Didn't you die because you followed your father into battle despite disagreeing with him ?

Dr. Fate :

Dr. Fate : It's not the subject. You will stop bringing that up every time we disagree. It is a mission of primordial importance.

Billy : And my best friend's fucking birthday is more important to me.

Dr. Fate : This mission-

Billy : I'm calling grandpa.

Dr. Fate : Do NOT bring my father into it.

Billy : *Already calling Vandal cus why wouldn't he have his grandfather's number*

Dr. Fate : Stop it.

Billy : Only if I don't come to your mission.

Dr. Fate :

Dr. Fate : FINE. You may go to your friend's birthday.

Billy : *Hanging up right as Vandal answer* :D thanks dad. *Leaves*

Later, Dr. Fate succeeded at his mission, which had him ally with Vandal for some reasons.

Dr. Fate : Was I ever this insolent ?

Vandal : Probably yes.

Dr. Fate : I am a Lord of Order, why has this child chosen me to father him ?

Vandal : Not my problem. Also here's a gift for my grandson-

Dr. Fate : Do not call him that. If it were up to me, neither of you would have ever met.

Vandal : Whatever. I have more important plans. Bye.

Dr. Fate : Why did I let this mere child adopt me.

Billy likes to be independent, he is a little homeless boy who fights life tooth and nail. He always needs to be strong to show society that he doesn't need, much less want, an adult in his life sending him here and there.

But he doesn't need to fight to prove himself strong when he already looks strong. Billy can't ask for help as Billy because that will bring trouble or an adult trying to dad him

But Cap? he can let himself be vulnerable as Cap, even if he doesn't need help, he can ask for it. Marvel will just be a friend in need of help and no one will treat him like a helpless child for that

So, after a good few months, if not years, of becoming friends with his league colleagues, the captain starts to show how he loves having people around him for little things.

he wants to open a jar from the kitchen. He has the strength to go head to head with Superman, but he would never miss the opportunity to ask Superman himself to do it for him. Clark always gets a little confused, because the pot isn't that tight, or tight at all, but he always helps because he sees how it brings a genuine and happy smile to his colleague.

Does he need a snack? He will ask Flash to prepare something for him, saying that the food he makes is the best and with the best flavor.

captain has a problem with magic, he is completely capable of solving it himself, but he will knock on zatanna's door to ask for advice, potions, a protection spell and even a good luck hug if he feels she wouldn't refuse

There's a new movie, he doesn't even want to see it that much, but he's going to ask Cyborg if he can make the movie show in the watchtower break room because he finds the control and streaming platforms confusing

He will ask Batman silly questions, or even prepare complex questions with Solomon's help so he can ask and listen for hours while the bat explains things to him. Not that he didn't already know the answers or couldn't find them in the rock's library of infinite knowledge. but he likes to have someone talking and explaining things to him with so much patience, teaching and even being happy to have someone to listen to his knowledge

Are they going on a water mission? He will ask Aquaman for tips on how to swim faster or more efficiently

Is he having a slower day? Why not ask the Martian Hunter to accompany him to a cat cafe? Ask what are the best sweets or brands of cookies? ask for help to bake a cake or taste the frosting, a brigadeiro

He's having problems with his communicator, better go see Red Tornado if he has tips on how to use it without confusing the private lines again, or ask if he has some free time to go for a fly through some storms. He makes hurricanes, he must like storms just like him, right?

There is a dangerous magical temple sending dangerous magical frequencies, he can destroy it alone, but he asks the hawkwoman for help to put everything down with her mace

there's a cockroach in the watchtower… better ask dr.fate for help to kill it

A LADYBUG ON THE WATCHTOWER?! Call the jl green lanterns asap so they can conjure up a green safe pot to transport her back to earth!!

Did he fall? He wasn't even hurt, but he's going to ask Diana to check if he doesn't have a bump on his head. Diana understands where her little brother's requests come from, and she never unmasks him, she just takes the opportunity to make her little brother happy without feeling bad about asking for help.

Now, a hero approaches little Billy with a piece of food? oh. he will bite off your fingers and throw the food back in your face (not really because that would be wasteful, but he would return the food and tell you to eat it yourself, that he would get food for himself on his own)

He can be feral, try to teach him a life lesson and he will teach YOU a life lesson.

His shoelaces are untied and he just stuck them inside his shoe? you leave his shoelace inside the shoe. If a hero, be it the Man Of Steel himself, bends down to tie his shoelaces, OH MY, he'll kick you in the face and scream that you're not supposed to touch his stuff

Unless that you are also a child or mr tawny, then he maybe either accept your help or gently refuse

I need a fic where all the magic users know that the Champion of Magic is a child so they just start unintentionally co-parenting Billy.

Like, John Constantine will take him on outings to hell. Billy will run off and come back with a piece of Constantine’s soul that had been gambled away and Billy will refuse to explain how he got it.

Dr. Fate (against his better judgment) sets up a playdate between Billy and Klarion the Witch Boy where they are just running around causing chaos (nothing harmful thanks to Billy)

Zatanna lets Billy come to her shows where he’s putting every other audience member to shame with how loud he claps and cheers whenever Zatanna does a trick.

Give me a scenario where magic users are regularly teleporting into the watchtower just to give Captain Marvel a packed lunch, and telling him off —in front of the JL— for forgetting it.
