People who get offended when you ask their pronouns will never fail to surprise me. “Obviously I’m a girl/boy”, that’s not apparent actually. Not every trans person passes as their preferred gender and not everyone takes hormones, blockers, or dresses differently. And the other thing is that not every gender has a “look”. Sure non-binary people are usually stereotyped to be AFAB, trans men to be weak and twink-ish, and trans women to be predatory. But it doesn’t have to be like that, it’s just a simple question so why get so worked up about it. Maybe I’m ranting but it’s just ew..
This is transphobia, exorsexism, GNCphobia, and varsexism.
"Isn't my gender obvious?"
1- Trans & gender diverse (TGD) people may not be interested in a medical transition, may be incapable of a medical transition, or may be pre-transition.
2- TGD people may have "unconventional" transition goals.
3- TGD and non-TGD people alike can be gender non-conforming (GNC) in presentation.
4- Even if every TGD person was gender conforming, society doesn't have "gender roles" for a lot of non-binary genders. What exactly does society expect an androgynous, neutral, null, genderless, xenine, outherine, aporine, mixed gender, or multigender person to look like? Or what does society expect fem enbies and masc enbies to look like in order to "differentiate" themselves from binary women and binary men? Society doesn't have any definitive answer, because of non-binary erasure.
5- Intersex and sex non-conforming people exist.
(Gentle note: They are stereotyped to be socially imposed as female, not stereotyped to be AFAB. AFAB doesn't describe how a person is socially treated, it only describes an F on a birth certificate.)
