if you are not an autistic who is semi/nonspeaking, an routinely AAC user, high support, a POC etc, you don’t get to speak over autistics who are!! even if you are autistic yourself!
i’m tired of autistics who don’t hold any of those identities / a mix of those identities thinking they can speak about our experience over us with actual lived experience!
i’m tired of you all cherry picking what you all focus on when nonspeaking autistics, etc. are mentioned—how so many of you all only focus on their autism and completely ignore fact that they are also nonspeaking :)
autistic things 109
when you'd rather die than make/keep eye contact
I haven’t done enough specific research on this (or is it based on your own views?) but what counts as being low v medium v high support needs???
Like yeah I don’t stim a lot unless I’m overstimulated/dissociated/having intense negative emotions, I can work a job (although I burn out working 2+ days in a row), I can (mostly) drive, and I’ve lived on my own plenty and can function (chaotically) on my own—
But I shouldn’t live on my own because my autism/adhd leads to not doing laundry, eating, etc. when I’m alone unless I’m having a day with lots of spoons or am hyper-focused, and I really shouldn’t drive a car due to dissociation reasons, but I have to drive for now.
There’s probably other things I can’t think of. But what would this count as??? I have no clue.
My partner is a great masker and has low support needs, I think that one of our loveliest moments are the moments where I stim in a big way. They’ll look at me, and wonder what I’m doing. They ask, but I don’t answer. Then, they try that stim, and almost understands exactly how it feels for me.
The best tour mates.
