Today you felt numb. Well…almost numb. You would assume that’s what this feeling was, not being able to get out of bed but at the same time wanting to do something. It felt suffocating, wanting to do something productive or fun but at the same time lacking some much needed motivation.
That was until you got a text message from your friends saying they were on their way to pick you up. Shit. You had forgotten you had plans today.
Groaning softly at the realization it was to late to cancel, you dragged yourself out of bed and down the hall, discarding your dirty clothes that you had wore for about a week straight onto the bathroom floor before stepping into the shower.
Turning on the water and closing the bathroom door you sighed softly, looking up at your face. You could really tell that you hadn’t gotten a good nights sleep in a while. The prominent bags under your eyes really starting to puff and show, directly linked to crying and exhaustion.
You turned away from the mirror, knowing If you looked to long you would be stuck pointing out every little ‘flaw’.
The water felt, nice…washing away some of the built up tension from laying in bed for so long. Gently rubbing in the shampoo into your hair you sighed softly, it felt so good, but you couldn’t bring yourself to do it more often. You wish you could.
After turning off the water you stepped out onto a towel, drying your feet before wrapping another towel around yourself and walking out into the hallway.
Stepping over the piles of dirty clothes and other things laying on your bedroom floor you were able to find something to wear, god, you needed to do some laundry.
Trying not to think about it longer than you needed to, you slipped on your clothes and shoes, grabbing your wallet and keys before heading outside to wait for your friends to pick you up.
You were gonna head to that new place today, well, relatively new. It had been open for almost a year now, but you hadn’t made any plans on going until your friends brought it up.
Speaking of friends, a familiar car pulled into the driveway. “Hey! Cmon! We’re gonna be late! I heard that they have the best pizza around 12:00! I don’t wanna get there late and be stuck eating some stale ones!” Your friend said, making you chuckle as you walked over and got in the car.
The car ride was relatively quiet, your friends only really talking about the new place and what they’ve heard about it. Some of it was unsettling and something you didn’t want to think about so you plugged in some earbuds and listened to some of your favorite music.
After about the tenth song you arrived at the pizzaplex. Stepping out of the car you brushed yourself off and made your way to the door, signing in a guest registry before going inside.
The place was covered in neon lights, the walls mute but colorful colors. Looking around a bit you made your way to the second floor, wanting to go off by yourself a little bit, making plans to meet up with your friends later.
You had to admit some of this was pretty cool, the animatronics all had great designs and the way the place was built and painted was really cool too. Walking around until you were satisfied you wandered over to what looked to be a slide, on top of it read “slide into fun!” In big bright colors.
Admiring the golden statues and the colorful slide you went to turn and walk back out, that was until about three little kids jumped on you and made you trip, sending you all sliding backwards down the slide and into the ball pit.
Landing with a soft thud, you looked up to see the three children looking down at you, quickly apologizing before rushing off to play with the others. Groaning softly at the minor inconvenience, you made your way back onto the slide, trying to crawl back up before yelping as more kids came down, causing you to fall again.
You soon realized you would never get out of there using the slide, so you crawled onto the side of the ball-pit and began to look for another way out. Unfortunately, that would prove to be difficult with the hundreds of kids tugging at your clothes and wanting to play, not letting you get anywhere near the front doors.
It was all to much, you didn’t even want to go out today and now you were stuck in a giant room that looked like the rainbow had thrown up on it, surrounded by a million toddlers.
Eventually slipping away and hiding behind the slide you sat down against the wall and rubbed your face, willing the tears not to come from being so overwhelmed. At least you were finally alone and enjoying the peace and quiet right?
“Whoa ho! Who do we have here?!” Wrong.
Snapping your head up just in time for the brightly colored animatronic to snatch you up, you let out a Yelp. Who was this guy? WHAT was this guy, and why was he so interested in throwing you over his shoulder.
“It’s no fun sitting and hiding by yourself! How about we finger paint! I have glitter glue and cotton balls!! We can do some arts n crafts! I know bigger people don’t have time for stuff like that, but I think that’s just silly! Everyone has time to have fun!” He said, patting your back as you wiggled in his strong grasp.
Arts and crafts? Finger painting? Sure, that sounded like fun, but right now you were only getting more overloaded with all the new colors and sounds, and now you were being taken God knows where by a robot that looked like the suns you used to draw in the corner of your paper in kindergarten.
“I-I think you have the wrong person. I-I’m not supposed to be here, I just fell down the slide.” You said, stuttering due to being so flustered as you vigorously wiped your cheeks to stop oncoming tears. You wanted to go home and go to bed, you knew going out was a waste of time, and being around all these people just made you nervous and drained your energy.
This of course didn’t go unnoticed by sunny, he was built and programmed to be extremely intuitive. Constantly able to sense emotional changes in order to help take better care of the kids. You, you seemed very very upset. He didn’t like that one bit.
“That’s okay! Sometimes accidents happen for the right reason! It’s alright if you don’t wanna finger paint, or hang out with the others! I understand, they can get a little bit rowdy and overwhelming sometimes!” He said, pulling you away from his shoulder and holding you out in front of him, letting you see his face while your feet dangled off the floor.
“Big person responsibilities can get overwhelming too, I see. I know sometimes things are hard, and it feels like there’s no way out…but I promise, little friend, there’s always gonna be someone to make that frown turn upside down! If you don’t have anyone to do that for you today, I can be that special someone if you’d like! T-that is, if you would let me, little friend.” He said, rubbing soothing circles against your back as he walked behind his curtain and into his room, setting you down.
He was right, they could get overwhelming. Working long days and having to constantly keep it together, listen to other people vent but not having anyone else to listen and understand your problems, hell, even getting up felt impossible. This robot, understood. In just the couple minutes you’ve known him, he’s shown you more kindness than anyone has shown you in a long, long time.
Reaching over and grabbing some art supplies, he sat down in front of you, beginning to set them out so you could make something.
“I know working is important, but so is you feeling good! So…l-let me help you forget about some of those worries, even if it’s just for a little while..” he said, holding out a tube of your favorite color glitter glue.
With a shaky smile and tearful eyes, you reached out and slowly took it. Yeah, let yourself forget about life…
Even if it’s only for a little while.
I hope you enjoy! Please stay hydrated and remember, it’s going to be okay. :)
