Random thing for people to consider is that since Laika is the saint of one way trips should Felicette be known as the saint of safe landings since she did make it back to the ground safely

shout-out to characters who let their childhood friend situationship dictate the course of their life to a degree that spits in the face of any and all reason. they're doing important work.
hey does this shoutout apply to people who may or may not actually be like this in real life ..? asking for a friend
no sorry it's one of those things that's only enjoyable in fiction. like child soldiers or blonde men.

As an autistic/adhd person going through the job search process I’ve learned to phrase my autistic/adhd traits as corporate friendly things. Here’s some examples:
I have trouble reading between the lines and picking up on implicit information? Actually, I’ve learned the importance of giving and receiving precise, specific instructions in order to avoid time consuming miscommunications.
I’m easily bored with only one task? Actually, I have a curious mind and thrive in places with a wide range of tasks as I prefer dynamic environments where I can contribute to many projects.
I have trouble with white lies that are merely social niceties? Actually, I prioritize a transparent work environment where we can tackle issues head-on.
This way I don’t have to lie, but rather just spin my truth in a way that’s palatable to them.

Not trying to sound like a boomer but going to an art museum for the first time in a minute is wild because like... (visual) art really does hit different when its not on a tiny screen the size of your palm
you ever just sit and realise u can’t remember 80% of your childhood? like … what happened? who am i ..?
Many people in the comments are saying “trauma”, but this is actually a very normal occurrence. It’s called Childhood Amnesia, and it’s a process which, as the brain reorganizes itself for cognitive thought that is developed in late childhood, it changes the Accessibility of those memories during recall. Many childhood memories are available to the person, but they will not be remembered during regular recall activity, you have to “trick” your brain into remembering with different tactics.
This is because there are two parts to memories - their encoding and their recall. The encoding determines their availability, their recall determines their accessibility. The reason why trauma memory and childhood amnesia are different is in this distinction. Trauma memory is often encoded differently, bypassing to the limbic system where it is stored as intrinsic memory. It can’t be recalled because it was never encoded. Childhood amnesia, however, seems to indicate that the memories are encoded, but we lose access to them as we age. This is most likely due to the development of brain structures that fundamentally change our encoding and recall of memory as we get older.
This is an important distinction, because trauma memory is “stored in the body”, i.e. you get triggers that send your body into a cascade of uncontrollable feelings, sensations and reactions. Whereas childhood memories won’t generally do that, they are just recalled at odd times with odd associations.
reblogging this because I’ve legit seen people freaking out when they realised they can’t remember some of their childhood, thinking they might have some repressed trauma.
Childhood Amnesia isn’t even the first time our brains do this! There’s a prior, just as significant amnesia that occurs in babies, usually around ~10 months old.
This particular amnesia is specific to language acquisition. Up until 10 months old, babies are able to hear and differentiate nearly every phoneme/ sound spoken in every language. Our brains are such sponges for information at this point, we just process literally everything around us for the first few months.
In those few months, we start recognizing patterns, as well as cause and effect. Things like “mom and dad say special sounds when they want my attention” or “I can make sounds with my mouth in varying pitches and volumes isn’t that fun?!”
However, baby brains can only hold so much, and at about 10 months old, our brains have to do a massive overhaul and throw out everything that isn’t related to the sounds they hear every day. That means all those phonemes/sounds that DONT occur in the language spoken at home get chucked out the window.
The process is called “Perceptual Narrowing” and I highly recommend looking up the studies scientists developed for this, especially the sections about “how do we Pavlov a huge group of infants?”
After removing the extraneous data taking up space in their tiny heads, the babies are able to focus on communicating with the relevant sounds, and make faster, more accurate connections. That’s why babies may start producing first words around one year old!
This is one of the foundational studies on this

Egyptians continue to be hilarious
when i was a little tween it used to annoy me in fiction when every single supernatural creature knew about each other despite living in completely different societies, even realms, from each other. i was like, okay, well, why do vampire needs to know about fairies any more than humans do? why do they talk to each other? wouldn't fairies just think of vampires as sorta messed up humans anyway?
(i'm not saying i stand by this. but these were my feelings)
so anyway i had this vampire character, nell, who was very much the imaginings of an edgy 11 year old in neopets roleplays in 2002.
she was deeply obsessed with her human brother, who wanted nothing to do with her.
he was dating a guy who happened to be a werewolf, but he didn't know that.
so nell showed up one night to bother them both like "here i am. nathan's vampire sister."
and nathan's werewolf boyfriend, who did not know vampires existed, went back to his pack like, "you guys are NEVER gonna believe this."
which 24 years later, yeah i do think i still funny.
there is still time. there is still time. until your bones are in the fucking ground there is still time.
