“Ready?” Sherlock asked, voice sounding muffled.
“No,” John answered through his own diving mouthpiece. He felt his bad leg ache. This wasn’t a good idea.
“Okay, let’s go then.” The detective said, letting himself drop backwards into the ocean, off the boat.
“Oh, Jesus.” John breathed in deeply once, held his breath then followed Sherlock.
The water hit his body and it was cold, even through the wetsuit. John still held his breath until he remembered the oxygen tank on his back was there for a reason.
The let themselves going down slowly. It was not that deep actually, around 15 metres Sherlock had said earlier. Yet, it felt like swimming into a very wet hell to the doctor. John really wasn’t enjoying this.
Sherlock on the other hand looked like he had done this a hundred times before. John had been concerned. “Don’t we need a professional with us when we go scuba diving, for gods sake?” he had asked.
“I am quite confident we will manage well, as long as we do not move up too fast, we are not gonna rupture any internal organs.”
“Oh, and how do you know how to do this exactly?”
“Research, of course. I read everything about it online last night.”
“Jesus, and here I was hoping you had some sort of experience.”
“It will be fine, trust me,” Sherlock had said, and John – like a little puppy running after his owner, did. He regretted this decision now, as a big fish (it was 5centimetres long), crossed his path.
They were twelve metres down and suddenly he could see something yellow between all the dark grey rock. Sherlock – who somehow was there faster, now showed him the scuba okay sign – forefinger and thumb touching, forming a circle. Right after he held his thumb up.
They slowly moved up on, and when they finally broke the surface, John allowed himself to look at the yellow object, Sherlock had picked up from the oceans ground.
“Is that- is that a cucumber?”
“Indeed, it is, my dear Watson.”
Sherlock raised and eyebrow. “This is the most important question that comes to your mind? Not why is it on the bottom of the sea? Or why is it so important for our case?”
“Yeah, I don’t know, I am sort of more curious about the yellow colour, right now.”
