Wayne Kids TikTok Headcanon

I firmly believe that Bruce Wayne was exposed to too much press attention at too young an age. He probably got over-sexualized too young, people being oh only a year until he's eighteen! type grossness. There's probably a fair number of people who look at all the attnetion he got after his parents died and completely undertsand why he "cracked" and fled to Europe and came back the way he did, and why he tries to keep his kids away from the press and away from attention, especially since a lot of people probably responded pretty grossly the first time Bruce adopted a child. So I don't think the public knows that much about the Wayne kids beyond seeing them at red carpets or charity galas, and the very occasional family interview.

And then the pandemic hits and the Wayne kids are all at home and very, very bored.

So they start a TikTok account together and start making videos and all of a sudden the world understand why Bruce looks so tired all the time. It's just unfiltered chaos of prank battles, lip-syncing, Steph, Cass, and Dick doing all of the dances, cooking videos with Jason, Damian showing off his pets, Tim and Duke doing hilarious comedy videos, Barbara recording the Waynes in their natural habitat, Bruce just being a tired dad who loves his kids and doesn't understand what's happening, and Alfred giving advice for removing stains. They also talk about social issues that they've faced and try to bring light issues they think needs the attention.

It's just overall very chaotic but wholesome and the world realizes that ohhhhhh Gothamites weren't exaggerating about how weird this family is.

I just know that Damian knows how manipulate all his siblings. He's researched them all, learned everything he can about them. He knows that Dick doesn't eat when stressed, and how to counteract it. He knows that Steph gets snappy when she's tired and sad when she hungry, and he knows what to do about it. He knows that, when tired but too stubborn to rest, Tim will go to sleep if you just make him sit in the sun for a few minutes. The idiot can't help it.

Damian knows that if Duke is disassociating, you can plop Alfred the Cat on his lap and wait a few minutes and he will come back to himself smiling. Damian knows that Jason can't use a spar to blow off steam. Jason himself doesn't realize that he doesn't need to hit something to calm down, honestly, but Damian knows that all he needs is some tea with cherry bark and a chance to rant.

Damian knows how to get Dick riled up. He knows what makes Dick mad. He's started using that to get him to actually voice his emotions, or just to tell people what's bugging him, because otherwise everyone around him will spend all the time he takes getting over it slightly on edge.

Damian knows what will make Cass cry. He also knows what will make her forget she ever wanted to cry.

Damian even knows how to convince Alfred to take a day off, and exactly what blackmail will get the old butler off his back. Because, loath as he is to voice the weakness aloud, Alfred will do anything for a quiet evening with his grandkids. A game of chess, and hour or two gardening, a cup of tea and some family gossip.

Bruce, of course, is easy to manipulate. All Damian has to do to get his credit card is bat his eyelashes and remind his father that he is still his little boy. And all Damian has to do to get Bruce to rest, or eat a family dinner, or take a night off, is incite a different sibling. "Timothy has been missing you, you haven't talked to him in a while." "Richard is starting to wear himself down, maybe take a break so he will?" "Stephanie needs help with her homework, but she's too proud to ask for it herself."

Oh, yes, Damian knows all their weaknesses. He knows exactly how to get his family to do exactly what he wants them to do. Even if it's just making sure they don't self destruct the moment he glances away.

I feel like Jason expresses his love for the family in some of the most subtle ways, things that could easily slip your mind if you weren't paying attention.

Alfred cooks dinner, and he finds Jason has already started on collecting empty dishes before he can take a single step out of the kitchen.

Damian comes inside from checking on batcow to find his colored pencils sharpened to a fine, razor-perfect point so he can go right back to what he was doing.

Bruce can't find his favorite mug, but when he comes down to the batcave, it's full of hot coffee and sitting on a coaster in its usual spot, except Alfred is still upstairs and has long given up trying to make him use a coaster.

Stephanie finds her phone on the charger beside her favorite spot on the couch because it died while she was talking to Cass.

Cass, for that matter, can't find her old headphones. However, she does find a new pair of noise-canceling ones in their spot. She doesn't remember buying these. She likes them.

Duke finds the book he was reading before having to rush out on morning patrol on the table, his place marked with a sticky note. Duke already knows who left it, but the sentiment is nice, so he doesn't say a word.

Tim wakes up on more than one occasion after falling asleep in the batcave post-patrol and finds a blanket around his shoulders. Not tucked too tight, less it trigger his claustrophobia, but just enough that it won't fall off. He doesn't know who keeps doing this. He thought it was Bruce at first, but even Bruce isn't that sneaky to get that close without Tim waking up. Not since Tim became extra flighty, at least.

Dick knows exactly why he gets random food delivered to his house sometimes. He knows Jason worries, and as much as Dick hates that he took after Bruce in that regard, he's glad Jason guilts him into remembering to eat from time to time. Dick, like Duke, doesn't say a word. If there's one thing he knows, its that there are some things you just don't talk about, for fear of upsetting the natural balance.

I don't know man, I just like the idea that one of Jason's characteristics is rarely directly showing he cares for his family, but all the work he does behind the scenes for them does all the showing instead.

I keep seeing things about Jason freaking out about dog-eared pages but hear me out:

Jason, who when he finds a book with dog-eared pages and broken spines and messy scribbles in the margins or highlighted segments, his face breaks into the most genuine smile. Because he looks at this book and can see how much it was loved, how important it is or was to its owner, how often it was read, etc. Because even messy, imperfect, and broken things deserve love. He would know; he and those books have a lot in common, after all.

I stand by the idea that Jason annotates The Fuck no ands, buts, or ifs

The dude is writing essays in the margins about what he likes about them, hates about them, what the events remind him, even just little tidbits of what he’s going through at the moment like a diary or journal. He’s circling words he doesn’t know the definitions of so he can learn them and drop 7 dollar words in casual conversation consistently. He dog ears and sticks posts-it’s on pages with his favorite quotes. The spines are broken and oils stain the pages where his finger has rubbed over his favorite quotes one too many times

Every single one of Jason’s books represent his life and love within them. They go everywhere with him and you can track his life progression through his favorite stories and see how they affected and changed him. Jason’s books are through the ringer because they’re a reflection of the life he’s lived, and when he sees other books like that he understands that that book is someone else’s favorite story that stuck with them through life and is a fundamental building block in how that stranger views the world.

Have you ever seen an English teacher’s book that they’ve had for 15 years because it a curriculartory book they have to teach every new class year and it’s seen each and every new year? Ya that’s what a well loved book looks like and Jason understands that

Tim Drake as a character is really funny because on the outside, he gives off this aura of always knowing what to do and what’s coming next and being able to predict his enemies next ten moves, but on the inside he has no idea what’s going on and is riding by the seat of his pants the whole time.

Like, he has the best poker face of any character ever. People look at him and think “Lucky I’m with Robin who knows what he’s doing :)” and Tim’s brain is playing staticky elevator music.

I like to think that the batfamily is always complaining about how Jason is so hot headed and impulsive and reckless to the rest of the vigilante community. So before they actually meet Jason, they think he's this loud, brash guy who's always yelling and shooting at people's heads without a thought. But when they actually meet him, he's quiet, pensive, and everything he does is calculated and strategically executed. The vigilante community realizes that he's a Bat™ through and through, he's just the most impetuous out of all the brood when compared to the rest of the Bats™ and that really says something about the batfamily huh?

Jason didn’t buy flowers. He always said they were useless and died despite best efforts to keep them alive weeks after their purchase. Of course, everyone appreciated a bouquet of pretty roses every now and then, at least to admire and tell the coworkers about how much their admirer loved them and thrive on the envious glares.

But Jason didn’t buy flowers. He bought books.

Books outlast the human lifespan, thousands of years and they still tell the tales of ancient kings and queens, of battlefields and glory, hatred and despair, love and devotion.

Jason could fill bookshelves three times over with his favorites. Poetry, to short stories, to thousand-page novels he’s read over and over again, because every time feels like it’s the first time he read it, and there’s always something new to imagine and to discover.

He buys that novel they’ve been staring at each time they go on a book shop date. It’s just a few bucks, he brushes off when he hands them the book. And you’ve really wanted to read it. He fills the empty space with all the books on the wish list even though he knows they are too busy to read them but it’s still fun to keep saying, Maybe when I’m not busy, I’ll get to it.

Jason leaves sometimes. Long trips to new locations and he can’t always tell them where he’s going for fear of the worst things that could happen if he did.

But when he leaves in the night when they’ve already fallen asleep, they wake to a new book of love poems and a handwritten note on the inside that says, I’ll be home soon. Until I see your beautiful face again, read one every night and know that I’m doing the same where I am. There might be space between us, but our hearts are still connected no matter the distance. I love you, J.

You know when their arguing is getting serious because then Jason calls Tim 'prep' and Tim calls him 'jock'.

hc that Jason and Damian met in the league of assassin's, but instead of letting everyone know, they try to see how long they can keep up a charade of them hating each other.

so when they're with the other batfam members Damian is cold and abrasive, and Jason is snarky and callous, and everyone tries to keep them away from each other because they're afraid one of them is gonna get shot or stabbed.

but whenever they're alone they're both fond and sarcastic and they always apologize for whatever they said in front of the family, to make sure the other knows they didn't mean it at all.

they always laugh at how the so called "worlds greatest detectives" can't find the little tells in their act, like them lingering when the other is injured, or Damians reaction seeming more like relief than annoyance or anger when Jason "steals" his cup of apple juice (because Jason knows he hates it), or Damian silently checking to see if Jason is okay when a character on a tv show breaks out into laugher eerily similar to the Joker's.

and occasionally they'll patrol together without telling the rest of the batfam, and they chase each other over the rooftops in a game of stealth tag/hide-and-seek only two people trained by the league of assassin's would be able to play.

and once someone finds out they're together and says they're coming to get Robin before "they hurt each other" they both give each other this look of "well shit, guess it's time to pretend we hate each other again" and decide to get in a argument so it doesn't look suspicious.

internally they're both laughing because, seriously, how could their family be so stupid?

and i would argue that while duke doesnt realize they were brothers in the league, he does see through their fake hatred of each other just like simply because he joined the family after both of them and didnt have any preconceived notions of the relationships or anything (does that make sense im a little brain fried)

Rant Post incoming:

Anyone else have any common Batfam fandom tropes they absolutely despise?

Mine are:

-Woobyfying

-Those fics were everyone has to apologize and beg for *insert character here(usually Tim Drake)*’s forgiveness for *insert situation where they wronged said character here*. It ignores all the context of all their previous interactions and it’s just a petty thing overall.

-Cass being treated like a service dog because for some ungodly reason half the fandom thinks she’s some perfect little girl who’s vocabulary consists solely of the words “little brother”

-Cass being beat in a straight fight by anyone. She has been defeated before by people taking her by surprise or using gadgets she physically can’t counter, and that’s fine, but in a straight fight Cassandra Cain would fistfight God and win and it’s a disservice to her character to treat her like a throwaway tool to show how good *batboy of choice* is.

-Cass being treated like a mind reader. She can read body language. She would know Person A is afraid, sure, but that doesn’t mean she would instantly know why or how or of who or even what she should do about it.

-Tim Drake hahaha coffee hahaha so funny

-Duke either not being mentioned as one of the batkids or being treated like an outsider even when he’s like the only brother (not counting Dick) Damian can stand and has been shown to have a really close relationship with Cass

-“Duke is the sane one because….” the first time we saw that boy he jumped out of a moving police car off a fucking bridge what the fuck are you talking about

-Damian talking like a Victorian prince. His dialogue has always been a mix of the formal dialect that he was taught in the League mixed with the modern slang he has learned while in Gotham. He uses modern phrases all the time. He shouldn’t sound three sentences away from being cast in a Shakespearean play.

-People who have Damian not use contractions, just… why? I literally saw a fic in which a major plot point was that Damian had hidden a secret message in the contractions he used in a letter because “Damian never uses contractions!” and I’m just like motherfucker have you read a single panel with Damian in it in your entire life what

-Latino Jason Todd. As an actual Latino I hate this trope so much I wrote a multiple paragraph post about about how offensive it is (street kid= Latino? Really?) and how many hoops you’d have to jump through to get to that unbelievable convoluted racist headcanon (One of Jason’s potential moms was Lady fucking Shiva does Lady Shiva look like a fucking Latina to you?).

-Giving other people’s skills and traits to Tim.

Best hacker in the Batfamily? Barbara, not Tim.

Best fighter in the Batfamily? Cass, not Tim. No, not even if Tim “strategizes” or whatever that is bullshit and you know it.

Hooded Robin? Damian, not Tim. Damian’s canonically the only Robin ever allowed to wear a hood because he’s the only one of them that wouldn’t be hindered by the hood (“… a hood can become a blindfold…” “…I can fight blind…”)

-Dick Grayson being treated like a sex object and being cool with being objectified by complete strangers.

-The erasure of Tim and Dick’s brotherly relationship. He can have more than one brother at a time guys.

-Dick/The Titans treating Jason badly while Jason was Robin.
