This post has the same energy as 2012 Tumblr, and while it brings back ancient, strange memories, it also feels reassuring that some things will never change.
If you enjoyed Endgame, more power to you, please do not let me rain on your parade... I didn’t. I despise Natasha’s death. I despise how they ended Steve’s story. I despise how they treated Thor. I have a fix for just two of those but first, let me just highlight for you how WRONG Steve’s ending is.
Steven Grant Rogers, the worlds most foolishly selfless human being in the entire universe all of a sudden went:
“Yeah, I think I’d like to potentially break time and cause a huge disaster so I can GET THE GIRL!”
“Yeah I think I’m cool with abandoning my grieving friends and family! They’ll be fiiine.”
“Yeah I think I’m not only going to desert my team but I’m going to do so without warning anyone. My team that is disorganized because most of its core members are gone and on an earth that has had a SUDDEN population shift.”
“I’ve been working for over a decade on accepting my place in this new timeline and making new roots and family here... nah I wanna bone Peggy. Cause I did good and I deserve the girl.”
”Hey I know that Peggy was happily married with a bunch of kids, I have no assurances that I was the one she was married to, as a matter of fact, as her friend I should have definitely known that she was NOT married to me. I’m deciding those kids don’t deserve to exist anymore and Peggy’s decisions were wrong and she should have ended up with me.”
“Hey now that i’m in the past, and I know that my government is being taken over by Nazis and my best friend is being tortured for decades.... I think I’m gonna lounge at home!!”
Now... I dunno about you, but that’s not my Captain.
Let me fix it for you, Marvel. You had it set up, you had everything in place, you chose not to do it. This is on you.
Steve is returning all the stones and hammer, last one that’s left? Soul Stone. He rolls up to where it goes and who is there? Holy shit it’s the Red Skull!!
The two of them have a chat (and a punch) and bring Steve’s story back full circle. After a tense conversation, Red Skull either taunting or to get Steve to leave says something like “Just leave the stone then run off to live with your woman like you’ve been thinking about.”
Steve pauses at that, audience is like “Oh shit, Steve was thinking about going rogue and going to Peggy, that’s nuts!” and then Steve just thinks for a second. Everyone has been blindly trusting this Space Nazi. He could be lying, he could just be personally unable to compute the fact that there may not be any other way to unlock this stone than death cause he’s that sort of asshole. But Steve is a smart cookie, Steve is a dreamer, Steve doesn’t accept that causes are lost.
Steve falters, considers the life he wants with Peggy, pictures showing up at her door, the reunion, dancing, children, then turns to Red Skull, “You just have to give up a life that you love?” Then he smirks cause he’s a sassy mofo, walks to the cliff edge, holds the stone and his last vial of go-go time juice, and drops them both off. Time juice shatters. So do the foggy pictures of a happy life with Peggy.
With one last sassy look at Red Skull, Steve is transported away to a new planet or a new timeline, where they’re trapped and Natasha is there next to him.
They discuss what happened, Steve is super conflicted with leaving everyone, conflicted about what he gave up. Happy to see Natasha alive. The conversation turns back to a mirror of the scene back at Avengers base where Natasha suggests maybe... we just retire.
You see Natasha is finally at peace. Her ledger is clean. She can finally accept that she isn’t just her past sins because she did the greatest good she can possibly think of. She can’t think of any way to top that. She consoles Steve that Sam and Bucky can handle it. “Hey,” she says in her sardonic way, “They’ll be the new you and me. Not as good, but second stringers never are.”
Pan out as Steve slowly considers it, slowly smiles, and says something along the lines of, “No, I think the next generation will be perfect” Cosigning next phase of marvel, feel good ending, fuck you guys I did it better than you. Good night.
I have had 3 mineral posts flagged as adult content today. They contained a tourmaline, a muscovite, and a galena. On Friday I had 3 fossil posts flagged as adult content, including a fossil fish, a fossil tooth from a mastodon, and a Tyrannosaur vertebrae. I’ve submitted appeals for each. This has been getting worse over the past month, apparently most of geology content is now only for adults.
