I'm also a Catholic. I don't believe in the promotion of sexual intercourse outside of a man and a woman, or alternate pronouns separate from the body that you're born in, but I do believe that everyone who does should not be bullied, targeted, harassed, or abused for their beliefs.

I'm here to share my POV and see what yours looks like!

I am not afraid of being wrong and I will not be bullied into feeling bad for it. Flaws and mistakes are what make us human. Learning about what is wrong can help us discover what is right.

I've used every insult in the book on myself. You will not call me anything my brain hasn't already tried. (That isn't to say that I won't block if the need calls for it. Kindness is key; safety is a necessity.)

There's nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion, but there is something wrong with living in an echo chamber. If you won't acknowledge or won't face the importance of this fact, this isn't the blog for you. I fear I will only stress you out. Many apologies!

Currently making myself nauseous thinking about how they both refused to let go of each other’s hands when Jesse was forced to leave Lake behind

You literally just have to watch in horror as Jesse slowly disappears, neither of them letting go.

Then it makes me even sicker when I think about how when the exit reappeared they both refused to let go all over again

Even when Lake was being actively dragged away before Alan Dracula saved the day, Jesse still didn’t let go. He was fully willing to get dragged back through the exit with Lake before letting go.

It just pains me. He lost them once, and he wouldn’t let it happen again :( they care so deeply for each other

You thought that you went through the most scariest moments in that magical and creepy train that you would not experience something similar in your freedom. Until one night you feel something growing in your chest and you can't stop shaking, you don't know what it is but is bad. In moments like this you first instict was always hiding when you feel in danger, but you don't do it, you don't know why, you're paralized. This is so confusing and scary for you but at least your best friend is here, he seems to understand these feelings...

(anyways I like the idea of Lake experiencing things they never felt before in a good way but also in a bad way :3)

Truly horrific to think about Infinity Train Book 1 from the perspective of Tulip’s parents.

They screwed up. Straight up. They communicated poorly, and Tulip wound up bearing the brunt of the consequences of it. Nobody was perfect in the situation. All three of them are just clearly going through it. Divorce is hard on everyone involved, and it’s clearly shown to be a fresh wound. It’s just a shit situation all around.

And I’m confident in saying I’m sure both her parents felt bad over the ordeal. It’s not fair. It sucks. Yeah, they’re trying, but they’re still learning to navigate these brand new dynamics. At the end of the day, they still screwed up because Tulip has to miss something she really cares about.

But then Tulip runs away. And she doesn’t come back for months. Can we imagine the panic, the guilt they must have felt? Tulip packed a bag; surely they noticed stuff was missing when someone checked her room. As far as they know Tulip actively ran away (true). But they had no way of knowing she was prevented from coming home. Just horrifying to think of the implications of that. They don’t know where she is. She’s disappeared without a trace. Even if authorities tracked her well, she’d still appear to have vanished into thin air upon boarding the train. Tulip is just. Missing. They don’t know if she’s even alive.

And with the added weight of what happened immediately before Tulip disappeared, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume they both held a lot of guilt. That they both felt Tulip disappearing was their fault. That they wondered if things had just been different maybe they’d still have their daughter. We see Tulip has the tendency to take on things outside of her control—maybe that’s a tendency she picked up from one or both of her parents.

I just can’t stop thinking about how scared and distraught they must have been. I can only imagine the relief they felt when Tulip finally came home. All the questions they must have had. How many more questions they must have had seeing how fundamentally Tulip has changed. Like imagine your only daughter who you’d been arguing with last time you saw her comes back after being missing for months and she’s changed and improved that much. It’s just sickening. It’s all off-screen and it still fucks me up.

One of my biggest literary pet peeves is when historical or history-inspired fiction pretends that "courting" is a synonym for "dating". Usually it's just a one-to-one word swap--in a modern context, these characters would be dating, but this is olden times, so they call it courting instead. Sometimes they'll pretend there's a shade of difference, and that courting is a more serious exploration of marriage or something. But I read a lot of fiction that was actually written during these historical eras, and the word "courting" is never used like that.

Two people do not decide that they are "courting". One person decides to "court" someone else. It's an action, not a stage in the relationship. A man decides to court a woman because he wants to encourage her to have romantic interest in him. He's trying to win her favor. It's not an exclusive relationship--a woman could be courted by multiple men at once. She'll spend time getting to know the guy who's interested in her, but they won't officially define their relationship as one where they only show romantic interest in each other. If they reach a point where they want it to be exclusive, that's when you propose.

There's no middle ground--either you're getting to know each other, or you're committed to marrying each other. This idea of a period where you kind of commit to each other until you decide you definitely want to get married is a modern one, and it occurs in eras where they use the word "dating" to describe it. The closest equivalent I can think of are times and places where they'd talk about a couple "stepping out together", but they're still not calling it "courting". Words have meaning, and the word "courting" has never meant that, so stop using it that way!
