Because yes that is true. But when you frame it like that you are completely disregarding the absolutely batshit reality that Blue Whales are the largest animals that have ever existed on earth through the entire history of the planet and they are alive right now today

Classic French Beef Stew with Red Wine

Beef Bourguignon is a classic of the French bistro menu. It’s the food your grandmere would make. Some recipes are very complicated, but if you strip it down to the essential elements, it’s manageable. 

I like Julia Child’s classic recipe, but wanted to streamline it. This is a very good adaptation. I used to make it without adding the mushrooms and pearl onions later, but it really does taste better with that extra step as it really layers the flavor.

Ingredients 

4- 5 lbs Beef Chuck cubed

1 bottle Red Wine, Pinot Noir is ideal. 

2 Tbsp Oil

1/3 lb Bacon, pancetta or pork belly.

1 Onion, sliced

2 cups Baby Carrots 

2 cloves Garlic, smashed

1 Shallot, sliced

Salt and Pepper 

2 Tbsp Flour

1 Tbsp Tomato Paste

2 tsp Thyme, dried. 

2 Bay leaf

1 1/2 cups Pearl Onions, peeled, left whole 

4 cups Mushrooms, left whole if small. 

Preparation:

Prep your meat and pour in your bottle of wine and allow to marinade 8 hours up to overnight. Drain the meat, pat the meat dry, reserving the wine. 

Blanch the bacon or pork belly in simmering water for 15 minutes, drain, remove and pat dry. This is only really necessary if the bacon is smoked. Using pancetta will eliminate this step. 

Heat the oil and render down the bacon and remove from the pan with a slotted spoon.

Preheat oven to 325F/163C. Salt and pepper the beef cubes and sear on all sides and remove from the pan and set aside. 

Add in the sliced onions, baby carrots, garlic, shallots and cook until slightly softened. Add in the flour and stir until incorporated and it takes on a slightly golden color. You want it to lose its rawness. 

Then add bay leaves, thyme, tomato paste and the retained red wine. Stir and incorporate and then add back the beef and bacon. Cook covered in the oven, for 3 hours. 

After 3 hours sauté the mushrooms and pearl onions in a tablespoon of butter, until they begin to caramelize, then remove the beef from the oven and add them into the pot and continue cooking uncovered for another hour.

Serve with potatoes, French fries or noodles.

Destiny was the first place online where I felt comfortable presenting myself as trans. I made a female character, used the trans rep banner, and not a single person batted an eye.

I joined a discord server for destiny raiding because I was always interested in it. Presented to everyone as a girl. A really really kind group of people who would later become my raiding friends invited me to teach Deep Stone Crypt. They didn’t mind that I didn’t want to speak, as long as I could communicate in time.

It was… lovely. Being treated as me for the first time in my life. To this day, Deep Stone Crypt is my favorite raid. I tell everyone because of Deep Stone Lullaby, but it’s more than that. And I’ll forever hold this game and the people I’ve met in my heart.

If Destiny ever had a true purpose (a "Destiny") it was bringing people together of all types under the label of humanity; I myself find my true pronouns most at home in the Destiny universe due to its unquestionable inclusion and acceptance in the lore. Discrimination against queer or trans folks is just not a thing there.

But also because when I was 11 i read a short story about a girl who went to a museum and stole a bandage flake off a mummy on display with the mentality of "im just one person one piece won't be missed" then at night she was visited by the mummy and it plucked a single hair from her head and then the next night a different mummy took another hair and she realized that there were only so many pieces to her before there would be nothing left and that story was forever wedged in my brain. I think it's really funny how the practice of bleeping out profanity is not only completely ineffective as a censorship tool, it's had the opposite effect of creating an environment where it's ridiculously easy to edit apparent profanity into footage that doesn't actually contain it. Like you can just grab any audio or video clip and bleep out anything and people will automatically mentally insert profanity in there it fucking rules.
