Jason Robin days compilation: Everytime Bruce Wayne killed, attempted to kill, or Jason was worried he'd kill
y'know most people talking about pregnant men are imagining a cis guy in that weird mpreg penis/butthole pregnancy right? this is not some psyop to detransition people this is a fantasy where cis perisex men can be made to suffer in a way that's historically only been for the people they oppress
I'm just gonna post this comment here again.
cis people are wayyyy too damn comfortable with making jokes about men getting pregnant. and frankly so are other trans people.
idk what trans man/transmasc needs to hear this but no you are not in on the joke. 9/10 when somebody makes an mpreg joke they are not laughing with you. they aren't even really laughing at you. they are laughing at a caricature of you. they know what a trans man is and yet have so little care about trans men that their first thought when it comes to pregnant men is the hilarity of a cis man being feminized (often forcefully) and how amusingly grotesque or amusingly erotic they find it. you are not in on the joke. you were never in on the joke.
like. :( this was a funny episode otherwise but this was just really uncomfortable and upsetting to see. especially since i know dropout cuts out certain prompts in editing for a lot of reasons, so this promot went through so many different steps and nobody brought up how this might come across? or nobody thought it was bad enough? and i kept waiting for the contestants (one of whom literally is genderqueer!) to work into their jokes something make it clearly about cis men or smth, but. no. and how am i supposed to take that y'know?
i think my biggest problem is that these jokes boil down to "isn't it so WEIRD that a man is pregnant/has breasts???? isn't that so STRANGE?????" and whether you take that the route of "this is funny because its disgusting/disturbing" or "this is funny because its extremely erotically charged, often in a way tied to humiliation/control" you are deriving comedy from the idea of a trans/intersex man's body just. existing naturally. there is no greater depth it is just "wouldn't it be funny if a man was female in some way? but still identifiably masculine but in a way that has been corrupted by the sexual embarrassment of the most stereotypically female act? isn't that amusing?" and at worst its another example of how, when people try to get one over on cis men through the route of gendered/sexed humor, it frequently relies on leveraging trans & intersex men as examples of a man at his most failed, embarrassing, sexually dominated. and the worst part is again that there's not even a cursory attempt to diffuse this charge by the comedians making these jokes, there isn't any acknowledgement of what they are talking about. it's like anyone who's ostensibly a trans ally enters this pocket universe where trans and intersex men don't exist whenever one of these jokes comes around. and how am i supposed to feel about this!!!!!!!!!!!!
also its funny that the only time I have ever seen any meaningful public outrage about these jokes was towards Lil Nas X with his Industry Baby promotional stuff. which i frankly didn't even mind. because while obviously there was an element of "man pregnant!! how strange!!" because of Society, but to me the humor was primarily "a literal reference to the album title" + "i have a new album coming out, so i am depicting myself as literally pregnant with my new album." if he had been a cis woman, it still could've been funny, because there was more to it than just the shock factor of him being a man (although that is mostly how people took it).
but yeah. the only time ive ever seen anyone get any meaningful pushback against these kinds of jokes, was when it could be used to "call out" a Black GNC gay man who was already getting a ton of homophobic hate. how interesting.
"boypreggers" "boyvulating" "boybortion" do you know that a black trans men had the cops called on him because he went to an OB/GYN? or how a black trans man had doctors try to pressure him into getting an abortion, on top of other racist and transphobic medical mistreatment that caused him to have a mental breakdown and develop PTSD after giving birth? or how a black trans man was arrested for shoplifting because he was pregnant and they assumed his baby bump was stolen clothes? or that a pregnant trans man had to jump out of an uber with his wife and run away from the car because the driver was threatening him for being a pregnant man? or how a pregnant trans man was murdered by his abusive husband and misgendered across the news? do you think about any of this ever? do you remember your mpreg obsession when you start talking about reproductive rights or do you immediately start talking about "men controlling women's bodies" without a hint of fucking irony? has your fetishization and mockery of male pregnancy actually translated into any meaningful support for men who can get pregnant?
& i wanna make this crystal clear my point is not "everyone who makes these jokes knowingly is doing it to mock trans men." many people who make these jokes DO think they are doing it in xyz totally lighthearted unrelated to trans men way you think justifies this. my point is that no matter what people think these jokes are about, they are indicative of how we think about and engage with the reality of trans and intersex men. at the very least i want people to think twice before they throw around these jokes like there's no deeper meaning here.
reminder to all trans & intersex men that you are always allowed to be a huge bitch about mpreg jokes. it IS that deep and you are RIGHT to be upset about it.
Like, as a young Black woman who has some deep, conflicting traumas about her upbringing... Of loving my parents deeply because I know how much they love me, but also knowing that if I take even a minute to think too hard about the shit that went down between us, there's an ugly, festering resentment for what they've done that gives me nightmares to this day... They did so fucking wrong by Claudia and Louis' relationship.
One of the (many, MANY) things I can't stand about fandoms translation of their relationship is that Claudia always hated Louis. She didn't. She loved him, a lot. Protected him, even when she was deeply sick of his ass. It's why his constant nonsense hurt her so bad. And that's really what happens sometimes. You'll love somebody, and you know they love you, but you just so damn SICK of they bullshit putting you through hell, and you let em go. You gotta seek your own space, for your own health. (Once again, 👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾)
I'm telling you, if Claudia had been able to live her life with Madeleine and seek some space, her relationship with Louis would have had time to work out. But ya know. Her other, WHITE father, the one she tried to kill because he was abusing her and Louis (instead of LETTING HER CATCH THAT TRAIN) lynched her. And then she called him her favorite while calling Louis a nappy headed slave. 🙃 Brooooo.
I LOVE THE DICHOTOMY OF THE COWL AGING DICK BUT THE BATSUIT IN ISOLATION HIGHLIGHTING HIS YOUTH
With cowl on: Pulling straight 40-year old man
But then Dick tugs it off to reveal the saddest, eternally teary face known to man.
So long as Dick can hide his face, he can maintain the facade of Batman. He is physically and intellectually capable of doing so. But as soon as you reveal the eyes, as soon as emotional vulnerability is possible, it immediately gives away how lost and unwell he is in the position.
(Note: it also it worth mentioning that this is not a single artstyle choice. The images above were pulled from a Rebirth comic, but the post-Final Crisis Dickbats run had the same dynamic.) See:

thinking about the season 2 interview where delainey said claudia was always very mindful, even at her angriest, not to trigger louis's ptsd by getting all up in his personal space, vs how 3x06 had ghost!claudia yelling two inches away from louis's face and smacking his forehead.
prev tags i believe op is referring to this interview with delainey:
Even as their relationship is experiencing what could be a permanent shift, Claudia is still taking care not to trigger her traumatized father. “Claudia has a lot of trauma [because] of Louis and Lestat’s relationship, so when she argues with Louis, it’s never a case of her invading his space,” Hayles says. “When she argues with him, there’s always distance between her and Louis. She’s scarred from Season 1. No matter how angry she is, she’s never really in Louis’ face like Lestat was. She’s still caring for him. She saw what he went through. She doesn’t want to put him through that, but at the tail end of it she’s furious.”
she's referring to their argument in 2x04 (relatedly, the only s2 episode in which a Black writer, a. zell williams, receives writing credit) where claudia stands a distance away from louis as they argue
its a very sweet and upsetting detail from delainey :'(
the sequence where the muses judge lestat as an unworthy failure would've hit so much harder if the show had adapted magnus, marius and gabriella's white supremacy from the tvl novel. and i think muse-magnus and muse-gabriella should've been the only characters to consistently refer to louis as "a pimp" or "the pimp". imagine if the show had textually addressed magnus' white supremacy and his fixation on finding a "superior" heir as one of the reasons for his specific victim pool (you could even connect him being an alchemist to him having proto-race science style beliefs- 1794 is 2 years before the idea of "cranioscopy" the precursor to phrenology was invented in england in 1796, magnus turns lestat during one of the periods where the idea of trying to scientifically codify and "prove" racism is really starting to take off). and imagine if instead of muse-louis, muse-magnus had spoken this line- "hops the "ss abandoned" in new orleans. gives the gift to a pimp who lives to make him miserable" contrasted with s1 footage of louis looking darling and sweet and not at all like the way he's being harshly stereotyped. (in this hypothetical alternate version of tvl that actually cares about race and blackness, muse-gabriella saying "kills the daughter. saves the pimp" would've worked too, given gabrielle's canon supremacist views, desire to lord over her victims like a goddess in africa, and her contempt for every lover lestat's ever had).
like ofc a white supremacist like magnus would be indignant and repulsed that lestat gave the gift to louis and claudia- literally shared his blood with his black husband and adopted daughter, metaphorical vampiric miscegenation in addition to the literal miscegenation of loustat's relationship that was x2 illegal under the jim crow regime and louisiana's "crimes against nature" laws. there could've been a longer horror scene in magnus' tower where magnus waxes creepily poetic about lestat's physical attributes and his gallic heritage and how that shows ~he's more finely made than other men~ while touching his body or his face in a gross way and lestat's half out of it with blood loss (then later, when marius admiringly and matter-of-factly talks about this when lestat meets him, the show smoothly affirms marius' racism that the s2ep4 museum scene already hinted at and shows how powerful either marius or akasha are that they could pluck this fixation from magnus' mind across the continent).
and lestat, knowing this about magnus, would represent him this way in his mind, knowing his maker would've been more than displeased that his blood was passed on to black vampires- and it could connect with lestat having a deeper reckoning about the way he treated louis and claudia, the fact that he was complicit in their lynching- when lestat was onstage in s2ep7, he said "i'm cursed with my maker's temper". my maker's temper, not "my father's temper" this time, when he's onstage spouting lines villainizing his black family, framing claudia as an inherently defective "cripple" (white supremacy and ableism go hand-in-hand!!) and acting as the star witness in a show trial that's meant to manufacture consent for louis and claudia's murder.
also remember magnus and armand knew each other- armand called magnus "my predecessor" in s2, meaning magnus was the leader of the parisian children of darkness chapter before he left the cult at some point and then armand took over, and at some point between magnus' departure and lestat's arrival in paris in 1789 magnus began actively pursuing a "perfect specimen" as his heir- and given enforcing the great laws by disproportionately targeting black people seems to be a paris coven specialty (maybe it's bc magnus was too powerful to fight directly or bc armand didn't wanna bother with it as long as magnus left him alone and was suitably discreet with his killings, but there's no indication armand tried to put magnus down for being a rogue vampire hunting in his territory) it's interesting to think about how that could have roots in magnus' tenure as the parisian coven leader or in the vampire laws in general- it's a major "freeze frame and squint" moment in s2 and given the massive change in the writers room i don't know if the show would even follow up on this idea anymore, but in the plaque in the coven's lair listing all the vampire laws in s2ep3, there's a law about not giving the gift to black people.
like. you can see how engaging with race and racism already makes the text richer and the characters and their motives more layered- and the tvl writers team consistently falls short of that. instead of examining the racialized context of black men being perceived as inherently sexually predatory for why racist characters would reduce louis down to pimp and pimp only as his core trait, the show just plays into that kind of racism- the writers are clearly fixated on "pimp" as something eternal and inherent about louis (notice they don't do this with lestat being a john, sex tourist or the angel investor for louis' biggest and most successful brothel in s1) so multiple characters just call louis a pimp left and right without considering whether it fits those characters' voices. like off the top of my head i can think of at least 10 different words lestat would use to refer to louis instead of "pimp"- but magnus insistently calling louis "a pimp" would make sense if his racism had been adapted, bc then it's clear it's a specific reflection of a character's personal politics. i miss the characters feeling like unique individuals with unique voices and worldviews instead of coming off like an assortment of mouthpieces for rolin's voice and worldview.
sometimes finding aromanticism in media isn’t literally about aromanticism… sometimes it’s about the deconstruction of love as a concept and the subversion of its perception as inherently humanising. it’s about the decentering of romance as a driving force in the narrative. and also sometimes it’s about love being central to the narrative but in a way that defies all traditional categorisations of romantic / platonic / anything else. it is the secret third thing yet so much more and less at once. the point is aromanticism is everywhere for those with eyes to see

laughing about the idea of ilya lightly tormenting shane by saying he's going to retire from hockey and become his wag because he knows the one (1) thing that would give shane the ick when it comes to him is the idea of him quitting and not challenging him anymore
like shane tried to play through the feeling the first time ilya said it as a joke in bed because listen. he of ALL people doesn't want to kink shame if this is actually a fantasy ilya wants to play with. but this is also shane's version of thinking he's hiding his expression, which means what ilya was seeing was

None of this shit's going to get better until all of you realize there's nothing that makes you incapable of being a bigot, and there is ESPECIALLY no relationship to womanhood that prevents you from being misogynist.
Every single day I see someone go "but I can't possibly think or act in misogynistic ways, I literally am/was a woman!" and it's the dumbest shit I've seen, every single time. You, yes you, the person reading this, are capable of misogyny, just like you're capable of every other kind of bigotry, just like every single person on earth is.
And if you're reading this and you think "yeah, you tell those losers!" I'm not talking about them, whoever they might be. I'm talking about you.

Flashing lights in Hadestown
The official Hadestown recording currently in US theaters has flashing lights that I had no warning were included. There is intense, white flashing a little after Hades tells the workers to attack Orpheus. I would guess there are three seconds of it meant to indicate chaos in the middle of the mock fight scene. You wouldn’t miss anything if you closed and covered your eyes for that short bit. There aren’t abruptly flashing lights that I noticed in the rest of the recording
Can we just take a second to acknowledge how absolutely traumatizing and terrifying it is to lose your health? Feeling yourself decline, not knowing if you'll get worse, but knowing the permanency of your new reality, is scary.
Often we don't hear about the fear that comes along with health decline. We are praised for being strong and for enduring so much. We try to keep going despite the terrifying feelings of knowing there is no going back from this. There's a lot of trauma we face, a lot of grieving, and a lot of repressed fears.
So I'm just here to say that these feelings are valid and you're not alone.
forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it you’re literally gonna be using that almost every day
I just need a good pot, a good wok, TWO paring knives, TWO steak knives, and one Santoku style choppitychoppity.
That’s IT.
I ask for SO LITTLE.
Very helpfully, there is someone keeping track of which high-quality kitchenware has been enshittified and which hasn’t.
