So maybe stop trying to fucking “crack” eggs that aren’t out already. It’s almost as if our society is not particularly trans-friendly and there could be any number of reasons why someone wouldn’t be happy to be “cracked”, let alone the fact that people can be femme or masc and still not be trans.

If they’re an egg, they’ll hatch when they’re ready. Maybe focus your efforts on building a place where eggs are comfortable settling to hatch.

The term “egg” should exist for trans people to use in self reference (or between trans people that are already comfortable with the term being used for them), example: “As a kid I liked the color pink and all my friends were girls, I was such an egg”.

We shouldn’t be slapping the term onto anyone who isn’t 100 percent gender conforming, that’s rude to GNC folks, rude to closetted trans folks that are closetted for a reason, etc.

there was a discord server i was in, that was for gaming. there was a group of trans people in it, myself included.

a few of the trans women there kept calling me an egg for being a feminine man, liking scarves, all my characters being twinks who wear skirts, and a few other things.

this isnt to bash trans women. not all of them are like that, just a few newer out trans people can be a bit... aggressive about the "you might be like me too!!!" feeling, which i can understand.

they started to misgender me frequently.

i asked them to stop. they did not stop. i had to fucking out myself as a trans man for them to start to respect my gender identity. i left that server a couple years ago.

Hi! Wanted to share an important experience I had recently that I think you should know about, especially if you’re a fellow petite trans guy or similar!

I just got an awesome gynecologist who works with all sorts of people, including trans guys and such. She made me feel very safe, comfortable, and heard! One of the things she asked me during my visit was if I had anyone in my family who has/had Osteoporosis - a condition that makes your bones weak and brittle.

I had no idea why that would even matter, but both of my mom’s parents did, and I found out later that my mom has Osteopenia (sort of a halfway point between healthy bones and Osteoporosis). My doctor nodded and then explained that since 1) Osteoporosis runs in my family, 2) I am a trans guy taking weekly testosterone, and 3) I am petite at 5′0″ and 100-110 lbs, I should get a bone density scan done. Huh??? Why???

Did you know that estrogen actually protects your bones by suppressing reabsorption of the bone itself?? It works with the osteoblasts needed to create new bone! She explained that those of us with smaller bodies naturally have less hormones, and thus less estrogen to begin with, and when you start taking testosterone for a long time, it stops the estrogen, which stops protecting your bones. Damn!!!!

Now, because studies on trans bodies, especially over long periods of time, are in a growing field, we become part of the data. There’s not a lot to read on the subject yet, just like the similarities between being on testosterone and going through menopause. 

My doctor looked at me in all my confusion and said, 

“I bring all this up because I have a couple of trans male patients who have developed Osteoporosis by the time they’re 30.”

Let that sink in. (I’m almost 26.)

The scan took all of 5 minutes, completely harmless, got to keep all my clothes on. A few days later and I get a result that my pelvic bones are fine, but that my spine has “MINOR Osteopenia” and that I should do the following things to prevent worsening:

Take Vitamin D3

Take Calcium (preferably with food, but supplements are okay too)

Do weight-bearing exercises (“In regard to weightbearing exercises, we think the best is walking and/or running, hiking, and yoga. Swimming or biking is not recommended as a weightbearing exercise.”)

While this looks like a simple “eat better, get more sunshine, exercise more!” bit, (which I guess it sort of is??) it’s also… a little scary? Research on trans bodies has never before led me to this possible conclusion, and I wanted to make sure other people knew about this possibility as well, so they can ask their doctors questions to stay healthy!!

If for no other reason than spite, trans bodies have to keep living!!! STRONG BONES, LACTOSE INTOLERANCE BE DAMNED!!

you will also need vitamin k for calcium absorption which you can handily get by eating like a cup / 150g of cucumber. if you’re lactose intolerant you can get calcium fortified soya products & it’s also present in kale, okra and cucumber again but not in large amounts

IDK where your gynecologist was getting their information but studies have not shown an increased risk of osteoporosis in people taking a high enough dose of T. IF you needed specifically estrogen for bone health, cis men would be at an increased risk compared to cis women, which is the opposite of the case!

Bone health is an issue for folks without an adequate amount of testosterone or estrogen, such as people that have had an orchiectomy or oophorectomy (removal of testicles or ovaries) and then go off of HRT or people on puberty blockers that don’t eventually get T or E. (Much to the disappointment of some folks I know who would like No Sex Hormones.)

Ask your doctor if you’re worried about it, especially if you have other risk factors, and reasonable amounts of vitamin D/calcium/exercise are good regardless, but don’t worry about it because of misinformation!

one of the most enlightening realizations ive had was finding out that non-24 hour circadian rhythm people were a pretty large group and most of us have oddly similar cycles of usually around 28hr internal "days" and this masquerades as "insomnia" but if allowed to sleep and wake naturally we will just advance forward through time an extra 2-4 hours a day at a relatively stable pace. we can't go to school or jobs or even run errands on normal schedules without massive pharmacological and behavioral intervention. most of the people who have been diagnosed or figured it out themselves will report horrific, life-ruining disruption in their professional lives and terrible health from accrued lack of sleep. this disorder is most common in vision-impaired people which seems to suggest it's related to light cues. anyway just thinking about this as extremely loud yard work woke me up at 8am for the second day in a row

lot of people reblogging this identifying themselves in it so i wanted to give you a link to a more detailed desription of Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder, and mention theres a similar disorder called Delayed Sleep Phase disorder where you are on a regular 24 hour cycle but you naturally get sleepy around 3-4am every day and wake up around 10am-12pm (roughly). as far as i can tell, despite the widespread nature of both these disorders, its basically impossible to get diagnosed bvecause sleep medicine is probably the single most useless specialty and if you dont have sleep apnea they dont want to hear about it.
