The Penumbra Podcast - Juno Steel mysteries. I've dipped my toes into Second Citadel, not sure if I want to sacrifice my soul for it just yet. As for Juno's stuff, I would die for every member of the Carte Blanche and the first episode still gives me chills, even on the fourth relisten.

Welcome To Night Vale - my first podcast. My favorite baby. I listened to this thing walking the mile to and from campus and the mile across the highway to work for a year. I based my marching band tech assignments in Night Vale 's school district. Go Scorpions! Good Morning Night Vale - Great recaps of episodes and the cast are just...abolsute goblins. Very feel-good. Good for my soul, good for yours, good for the All Mighty Glow Cloud's - all hail ❤

The Two Princes - Absolutely lovely. Short, dynamic, and absolutely charming. I listened to this one a while back and don't remember much except a totally relateable main character, a cursed forest -- also lots of gayness and a flying ship. Beauty and grace.

The Orbiting Human Circus - Strange. Very Pan's Labyrinth in the realm of, "reality?" I love the music and the old-timey feel. Still picking my way through the Naughty Till New Year's collection, but I'm a sucker for the stories they bring to the table.

The Magnus Archives - I cried a bunch. Made art. It's beautiful. The only smart man in this podcast is Joshua Gillespie. Amen to my man with all the braincells who said, "Put the key in a bowl of water and freeze it." I, of course, picked all of the stupid people as my favorites and all of them are dead. Except one.

Marsfall - Just started this one. Chaos. Amazing imagery. Also ANDI - I'd die for that sweet boy. And for some reason it just makes me think of Starkid's Starship? Bc like, it's detrimental AND campy. Excellent.

UPDATE: 7/19

I'm relistening to Penumbra....again. Currently on Tools of Rust. I might cry. Penumbra is beautiful! I did lose my collective braincells back in Season 1, though. In episode 11, when Juno and Vallas Vicky meet her ex-partner, a piece for clarinet and piano is playing and I can't figure it out for the life of me. It is driving me batty. It's not tagged in the show notes so it's probably Fair Use, but I spent like, 2 hours trying to find it lol.

Wolf 359 - I finished it last week! It made me...sad? Like, I certainly felt sad, but not like when I finished Magnus Archives and ugly sobbed while making Marketside Italian Subs. And not like Penumbra where I showed back up from my lunch break crying. I didn't cry, but it's beautiful. Tropey and bold and brave. It's amazing. The ending makes sense. It was like it couldn't happen any other way and I would relisten to it for sure. If we're honest, I probably will.

Update 9/28

I have been so busy with my last semester that I've done next to nothing except listen to podcasts and my textbook.

Anyhow, here's the list:

Second Citadel - I sold my soul for it. Angelo is a Literal Baby and if someone had told me there was a poly lizard-esque forest god I would've been there way sooner. I listened to all of SC in like, less than a week. I cried. Like, not like MAG. MAG200 was like 😭😭😭😢 and this was like 🥺😢, so, much more hopeful. At first is was like - I can't get over Miasma bullying Mick Mercury and then it faded to the point I barely recognized Noah Simes at any point in the show until I actually listened to the credits on a later episode. But holy cow, I love it. And Penumbra's hiatus is over so new episodes are coming out. I'm so ready!

Stellar Firma- Monty Python in Spaaaaaccceee. That is it. Just....Trexel needs some therapy and a hug. And David Seven could just....get swole I guess? He deserves his cafe, I got very sad about it. It's just....I can't believe any of it, the whole show was such a whirlwind.

Old Gods of Appalachia - Once I got past the narrator sounding like the Dad from Dino Ranch (I thank my nieces for ruining everyday things with their shows), I was able to sit back into one of the most descriptive horror podcasts I've had the privelage to listen to. I listened to all of that in about a week and a half? It was sooooo good.

Bridgewater- 9 episodes so far. So much drama. Much wow. It parallels my own family drama in that most of the participants are in their 40s-70s and no one knows how to communicate like a human being. I love the mystery and lore of the Bridgewater Triangle and I cannot with the cast. Like, it's just so well done and so immersive. And the episodes are short enough I can binge the whole show in a shift at work. The main character is played by Misha Collins and that threw me for a loop because his character is dead-set against existence of supernatural entities and it's....it's so hilarious because all I think of, still, is a baby in a trench coat. It's so good. I'm sad for it to be over. But....so worth the wait!

The 8th Doctor Adventures Series 1 - I love the 8th doctor. He's so...He's like "Oh. Well that person is dead. Terrible business. Carry on then!" There's only a few episodes but I loved the whole series and I wish so much for more episodes.

Magnus Archives - I listened to Season 5 again and I was prepared wholly for MAG 200. But this show has ruined me. I was watching Bake Off with my boyfriend and there's a baker called Jurgen and my brain goes "Jurgen Leitner? Stupid idiot motherf***n Jurgen Leitner, God Damn fool book collecting dust eating..." like it lives rent free in my brain.

I also have all of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit audio books and am going to enjoy those thoroughly.

UPDATE 11/9

Star Trek: The Continuing Mission- an independently made Star Trek podcast from like, 2007. The captain is from Missouri and let me tell you his dialogie and actions are just right for someone from the Show-Me state. My Arizona coworker said Missourians are rude and I told him that "Show-Me" stands for "Show me your attitude." But the missions in this are great, the drama is top-tier and I wish there was more of it.

Last Podcast On The Left- Spotify recommended this to me because I took a survey. It's....something. A talk-table podcast concerning the macabre and spooky things that go bump in the night...it's actually really good. The grouping is a bit blunt, but it's got some very interesting information, and they accompany my donut-making well.

Bridgewater- That ending was chef's kiss. I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed competing in their fan art competition. I just...the drama really does remind me of my own family's drama, and I certainly wasn't expecting the outcome that happened. But this podcast led to me to creating the first actually piece of art I've done in a while, and the first piece I've put in a competition, so I owe it so much.

Wolf 359 Relisten- I forgot about half of the plot, and I like Hilbert more now. I mean, he's still trash, but I respect him. I even sort of appreciate Kepler. It was just...it hurt me still but it was so good.

The Two Princes- I sat through season 2 and loved the drama and the suspense and then promptly died because there's a third season! And the musical aspect of it kind of are it cheesy and the ending was sort of predictable because love always triumphs but these idiots were finally able to get married. I will say that someone with the power to make people burst into song is not only.hilarious but a great power for fiction. My favorite background drama was the whole thing between the Chamberlain and Barrabas, who are both played by the same man. It's like the Doug/Hilbert train but with rose-tinted goggles and I am just here for their whole dynamic.

Penumbra (Juno S4 so far, so SPOILERS)- Falco? Puck Falco? In my Io? It's more likely than you think. I mean, what a goblin! They drag Juno's paranoid ass out into the most-secluded place they can find, and then agree to help try to dismantle the Space FBI for funsies. Also Diamond. Diamond Hijikata literally sat there and said "I am nothing if not the smartest person in the room, and I am smart enough to know this ends bad" and just....my poor lady and his blaster. He got screwed over real bad. I am so excited for more episodes.

Dune Audiobook- I am on Chapter 8 and my boyfriend stopped the 1980's Dune movie halfway through last night because I kept comparing it so far to the book. The new movie, which we saw last week, is closer to the book in the specifics, and it was very good. I had no idea what to expect when I went to go watch it, so now I'm catching up. I'm listening to it through The Dead Author's Society and I'm so glad Artémis has made it available. Although the narrator's voice is super soothing and I have found my lunch break has included a nap or two and then I have to rewind it haha.

I added Hello From The Hallowoods to my listen list and I'm excited to start it on Thursday.

Update 11/16

Hello From The Hallowoods- I'm on Episode Thirty (30). This is so good. The whole premise of the series is great and I am here for a Trans ghost and an enby Frankenstein's monster. Here for the dead's gay rights. The amount of voices the narrator does to encompass all of these characters, they are just so talented and I am so excited for all of this. The Episode that killed me the most was probably Dogs. Also it was the one that sent me into the most uncontrollable fit of laughter because I have a friend that defintely is lonely and longs for meaning and connection and -- I jest, I jest. I love this so far, and I'm actually going to show it to him because he's also a queer artist and his idea of a good podcast is something that'll give him some spook and sprinkle him in some macabre.

Princess Of South Beach- I was recommended this by commercials during See You In Your Nightmares. It's a dramatic tellanovella and an absolutely wild ride. Fill of secret affairs and family secrets, murder and sabotage and political drama. And a hefty spoonful of gayness. It's ongoing, but I'm completely caught up so I'm waiting "patiently."

See You In Your Nightmares - an iHeart radio podcast about brain wave studies on nightmares that somehow gets very Nightmare On Elm Street. It's a pretty emotionally raw series and it was absolute chaos to pit this emotionally charged show and against the dramedy that is Princess of South Beach. Those commercials gave me whiplash. But it was fantastic.

The Mechanisms (not sure exactly what to label it as. I feel it's a musical but my SO begs to differ.)- so the Mechanisms is adjacent to Rusty Quill because some of the voice actors for Magnus Archives are in it? And I love it. It follows some classic legends and stories reimaggined and rewritten to include space age ideals. Usually this ends up like SyFy special levels of twisted. The Mechanisms are a group of immortals that fly through space and partake in violence and tell these tales through song. It's chaos. I love it!

Update 05/20

Hello From The Hallowoods- Finished the available episodes and started a re-listen when I found out that new episodes came out a couple of months back. Haven't finished it because it's been a busy year but oh my God, I don't know if I said it before but I love this show. The creator is amazing, they do so many cool voices and I try to emulate Diggory Graves when my boyfriend asks me to read the OG Sandman comics out loud to him. Diggery gives me Sandman vibes and no one can take that from me. The ending of the arc I listened to, where Percy gets the recognition he'd been waiting for, when they finally defeat the Instrumentalist...I wish I could get that. It was beautiful. Poignant. Almost made up for Walt. Almost.

Old Gods Of Appalachia - New episodes have come this way too and it was so fun to re-listen to the stories and get back into the lore of this show. I remember the surprise and drama of finishing the available episodes last time and this time, new details that I've picked up and focused on have made the show strike me in an entirely new way. Particularly the Good Mother Ministries plot line and Cowboy Abshire's. Can't wait to start new episodes and foam at the mouth about it.

Juno Steel (S4) - I love me some Peter Nureyev backstory. We have been waiting ages for this. Juno trying to cope with his whole existence and his feelings is very well-handled and God help me I love Puck Falco for treating people like people. They fucking rock, okay? I'm just glad they got Rita.

Second Citadel (S3?) - I'm sorry, but the Petrichrous ritual was supposed to be sexy, in my mind. I thought they were gonna, ya know, do some lizard kissing on the altar and create life. Sure it wasn't really how that ritual was supposed to go but a girl can dream, can't she? But noooo, Sir Tristan the Cold had to swoop in and drag my fave away from my other faves and now they're just, monster hunting, I guess? I loved the Plane of Mirrors! Quanyii trying her best to be strong for everyone by taking a magic edible was just absolutely hilarious, and the fact that the place brought out everyone's fears was really a very cool way to get perspective on their characters. I'm excited for the rest of the season for sure.

Kisses In The Dark- Am I here because I liked Izzy Hands a bit too much in Our Flag Means Death and have been devouring media with Con O'Niell's voice in it in an unhealthy way ever since I finished watching the show, twice? Absolutely. I don't know if he's Death or a vampire with like, acid-venom? Regardless the imagery is lovely, his monologues and soliloquies are just breathtaking and I am in love. I consumed this media as fast as he consumes his prey. It's a problem. I have a problem and that's okay. Everyone should listen to this. It's got TMA vibes, it's got Broadchurch vibes. Just, murder and romance and secrets and monsters. It's just fucking lovely. The only drawback is bc it's remote audio it can sound a bit weird when shifting characters.

Wolf 359 (again) (yes, again again) - yearly relisten. I am officially shifting my favorite character line to include more people. For one, Warren Kepler. The man is a fucking mad hen, with a great poker face. He played both sides until it came down the line and he picked humanity. I also just, love Hilbert and how committed he is to his work. They stopped him and his first thought was, "Let's blow them up." That's my kind of man, apparently.

Peacemaker Pod is- Great follow-up to the show. I loved getting to hear the creator and the actors commentate and give their thoughts, even if it was a bit cheesy. I certainly gained more perspective on the show and the way the actors played their parts. I'm just glad they've only killed one of my favorite characters so far in Peacemaker. If they get a second season and kill my faves I will probably just die. Same with Our Flag Means Death. If they kill my fave before his redemption arc I will just walk into the ocean. Long story short, great podcast, and a great show. Watch it. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Update 1/18

New Year, New Job, Same Old Me.

Midnight Burger: 4 episodes in. I don't know if I like it. I don't know if I hate it. What I know is that this diner exists as a constant in the entirety of this universe and many others and Gloria is doing her best. Also night breakfast is best breakfast.

Juno (S4): Unnatural Disaster Jet is sort of fantastically horrible. It's...jarring to see what they did to him in Dark Matters, but I'm glad that the family got back together and everything went off so well. That it might end soon is...it's real sad, okay?

Second Citadel: Everyone is in the same place! Which means shit is about to go down. Damien is legit so lovely. I made art about him. Season finale is approaching and I might actually die.

UNHhhh: Drag Queens giving life advice -- that's the only advice I ever want ❤️❤️❤️. Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamalodchikova are both hilarious. I like their YouTube videos better, just because I get to see them being ridiculous with each other, but the podcast is a great way to get a dose of blasé Drag Queen Drama without having to use as much mobile data.

Bright Sessions: Therapy sessions for people with special abilities, called Atypicals. It was nice at first to just sort of hear the individuals, but then as the story grew and everyone shifted closer I was dying. Damien is my little toxic baby and there's a book about him that I'm gonna get -- believe you me. But the way this whole show comes crashing to a finale with all the other pieces falling into place? Oh, it's brilliant.

College Tapes: Follows The Bright Sessions. Caleb and Adam are in college and weird shit happens. Which doesn't surprise me at all. What also doesn't surprise me, just like that one Supernatural gif says, "True gay love pierces through the veil of death and saves the day." Also, I love Oliver. He's literally such a drama queen and the Most Relutant Authority Figure.

AM Archives: This follows both Bright Sessions and College Tapes. I'm upset as fuck about Owen. He's literally my kind of guy. Also, the last episode being the first time in the entirety of TBS, TCT, and AMA that someone let Dr. Bright cuss is fantastic. God, this shit hurt my heart but it was worth it.

Broken Road: There only like, 10 episodes of this and I'm on episode 6 (bc new episodes hadn't come out yet). It's great storytelling. I'm a sucker for mechanical enhancement as a Future Earth Thing and this podcast plays into it. Basically, a war veteran and a determined farmer tell the Law to fuck off. It's lovely.

Update 6/4

Midnight Burger: I finished all of the available stuff (besides the Midnight Friends and Young Leif stuff) and got my coworker started on it. I'm now re-listening to follow her and keep up with her emotions. So far, Caspar is our favorite, and she cries anytime an animal/alien creature is harmed or sad. She has at least 3 questions a day on it, and we've now moved about halfway through S2.

Penumbra S 4: This season was heavy. It was a lot, honestly. In the beginning, I was so worried for Damien, so excited for Juno heading out to save his friends. And we found out more about Peter Nureyev -- what shaped the man, the myth, the legend. It was eye-opening. The way Juno finished was good. I liked the ambiguity of it. The happy ending and new beginning all rolled into one. But it felt to me like Second Citadel was sort of rushed? But I'm sure it'll come back around and make more sense when I listen through it again.

Desert Skies: I haven't started this yet; I've been waiting on KB (my coworker) to finish Midnight Burger before I get established in anything else but it looks promising and I'm excited to start it. Just reading the synopsis gives me WTNV/Wolf 359 vibes, and I'm hoping that's a correct assumption.

Ruined: KB suggested this one because horror movies scare her, but she wants to know what happens in them before she watches them. I love the energy the hosts bring, and I'm always here for a good horror movie and a good companion podcast. Also, as an aside, I listened to the Midsommar episode, and they had to have a crazy table budget for that movie. Like, just s ridi ulius amount of money for just...tables.

I've also added a large pile of audio books to my roster to listen to, including The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Murder Your Employer, Gideon the 9th, and Good Omens.

I'm excited to keep on listening this year.

Update 8/27/23

Hey, y'all. These oast couple months have been interesting. One of my physicians is moving on to the biggest and best job, my favorite coworkers quit, and we're officially down two nurses in-clinic. Podcasts might literally be the only thing holding me together, lol.

Penumbra S5: Okay, so this season so far has just sort of... made me cry? It wasn't much of a tearful reunion in Juno, but listening to them bicker like the old days and get back to the basics (the first thing that drew me in about this show was the space noir private eye vibes) was refreshing. So refreshing, in fact, that I went back and re-listened to, "The Case of the Murderous Mask", "The Train From Nowhere" -- the end of Season 1, Season 3 in it's entirety, and then I re-listened to Season 4 just to listen to Juno and Nureyev be in love and listen to Juno pine. The lady has some big emotions, and I love him for it. As for Second Citadel, that first scene of Season 5 hits like... really hard. And I was so scared for Talfrin, but then Angelo was there. The second he swooped in and announced himself, I started sobbing. I'm glad Damien was able to be reunited and that they've learned what is happening to their world. Quanyii is a little scary right now but I think I would be too if I took a magic edible and bad tripped my way through the Mirrored Planes and gained horrible knowledge and as soon as I woke up, I found out the love of my life had gone missing and the place was getting bombed. Definitely an understandable reaction. Our little lizard kissing boquet made me cry at the end of the episode. You know why. Last season brought everyone together only for this season to send them sprawling apart to possible doom.

Desert Skies -- I didn't get to listen to much of this yet, but it is a trip. If their frozen burrito aisle didn't send me, the fact that they refer ghosts glitching and having unfinished business by using the acronym "SUB"bing has my absolutely dying. I have no idea how to explain any of this to anyone, and it's still like...weirdly well-written. It's wholesome for being so, so nuanced.

Midnight Burger -- KB got burnt out about halfway through the second season. Still, I've got about 4 new episodes the listen to, and I'm very excited. We have a chaplain at our hospital who does the same three prayers on a loop, but she prays so nice it reminds me of Effie, and I actually feel better after hers.

Batman: The Audio Adventures -- This is great to listen to. It gives me spooky noir detective vibes and also lets me simp over a man who can't eat dinner until 2:22 in the morning because he's got two occupants in his mind. These voice actors are so good, and they paint a picture of Gotham that is so immersive and interesting. I had to stop listening so my boyfriend could catch up, so I'm excited to listen to more.

Things are so busy right now as our clinic transitions to make sure we can still see patients, and also because I've accepted a position in as an extra in a dinner theater production. Our first rehearsal is tonight, so wish me luck!

My little work doodles of my Baldur's Gate characters, their in-game versions, and their original forms from my past DnD campaigns. My monk (Emilia De'Limon), is very wise, but like my post-it says, she can be crude as she is not well-practiced in conversation or quite so empathetic as her party-members. And my Circle of the Moon druid (originally a shifter but had to be flexible due to game constraints) (Sarief Longtooth) is smart and level-headed, but will bend over backwards to help someone in need to the detriment of herself at times. I love my smart-yet-dumb, low-charisma queens.
