Like a month ago I messaged a craft group about accessibility for wheelchairs and the answer I got was “there’s a lot of stairs but we have cute boys who can carry you”. And it’s…not good. As a wheelchair bound person I largely depend on people when I want to go out and do *anything* so I’m used to it, I laugh it off, make an annoyed post about it and off I go. But I wanna just say a thing real quick.

Even if I wasn’t gay, wasn’t a survivor scared of men, getting help as a disabled person is just…Not a pleasant thing to us! Imagine for a sec how you’d feel being carried up a flight of stairs. You’re a grown person. You’re being touched in an awkward way. You’d rather do it yourself. You’re So Uncomfortable. It’s not where I look for the beginning of a romantic relationship. So like…could abled people stop doing this thing where they think helping us in a condescending and infantilizing way is cute? Cause I’m real tired. Just get me a ramp or lift and I’m cool. I don’t need a dating service when I’m just trying to go about my day

Probably preaching to the choir here, but while being carried is 100% embarrassing and infantalizing and not anywhere cloae to a real replacement for actual accessibility features, it’s also dangerous. A lot of people in wheelchairs, especially the non-ambulatory users, have conditions that could lead to injury or death if carried by someone who isn’t a firefighter, and even a firefighter would run the risk of hurting them.

So not only are you humiliating a disabled person by refusing to provide accessible spaces, you’re also suggesting that they put themselves at the mercy of someone who does not understand their condition and needs and likely who also hasn’t had any training in helping disabled people this way.

There’s a reason EMTs transport people on stretchers, and these are people trained to transport injured and disabled people safely. You’re way less likely to hurt someone if you carry them on a stretcher over your arms. Especially if, again, you’ve never been trained to move people on your own.

I’ll tell you. I’m from the US, in the northeast. I was 18 when Bush invaded Iraq in the name of WMD. And I was terrified. Because no one had taught me anything except “wars are good when the white people win”. I had to be at least 30 before I even began to understand how bad and horrific war and colonialism are. I graduated high school not knowing much about how many diseases the Europeans brought to the Native American populations. How much raping and pillaging Columbus and the like did, how horrible British colonialism was, and on and on and on. Add that to the news in 2004 being all propaganda of “get the WMD and the people in Iraq and Afghanistan all want USAmericans dead. It took a lot of exposure to other views to understand how very little I knew about history.

The deuteranomaly and protanomaly ones are very similar but they are different. The purple section ranges out a little farther to the right in the protanomaly one. Not seeing the difference between might not indicate color blindness but rather difficulty with color differentiation.

I hate the cold but that heat is unbearable. I have done errands in both temperatures. So I was picturing those days. I almost picked 100 because hauling around in a coat all day is the worst. But then I remembered if it was going to be that cold all the time, I’d work harder to find the perfect coat.

Basically, people are using their key fobs to set off their car alarms when they see ICE.

This is effective for several reasons:

Obviously, it alerts everyone that something is wrong. Given ICE has been terrorizing Minnesota, people are likely to immediately know it is ICE. This gives people time to flee or barricade themselves in their homes.

ICE loses the element of surprise.

If one person hears a car alarm go off, they can trigger their own alarm, alerting even more people, but also making it really annoying for ICE. Annoying sounds petty, but it can be effective. Have you ever been in a building when a super loud fire alarm went off? It's very hard to concentrate. You can't hear much else. You just want to leave. ICE experiences this when a whole street if car alarms go off. Which means they make mistakes.
