Hi! My name's Ashley (she/her). I'm in my late 20's and one of the members of The Menagerie (@elan-sipelli). This blog is sort of going to be daemonism, sort of life experiences, sort of my job in a hospital, sort of my own religious beliefs. A hodge podge! My daemon's name is Azekia (more commonly known as Ziki). She's never, ever changed from her piebald ball python form, but I'm pretty sure that's not my analytical form. I love her dearly! She's been with me for my whole life. I practice Kemetic Orthodoxy and am a Shemsu of the House of Netjer. I make up one half of Huwienikhonsu (Huwieni). Together we are: Daughters of Khonsu Beloveds of Sekhmet-Hethert, Bast and Yinepu-Wepwawet Associated with Set and Heru-sa-Aset

Oh I *love* our shrines! It is a collective effort between Em and I with Kit! It’s such a lovely thing both for the Netjer represented but for the collaborative effort! On the Colour Black

I think we all know that colour magick is very subjective and based on culture, religion and just personal preference. For example, despite the fact that Blue is a nice healing colour, I don't like it because too much blue makes me depressed or silent. So I prefer to use it for meditation or for helping with grieving because it prompts a catharsis. One may see it as a colour of wealth because blue was a relatively hard colour to obtain.

Black, however, is rather controversial. It is associated with Hexes and Curses but any colour can be associated with Hexes and Curses when they're worked with properly. Blue, as said, could be used to induce depression for me, yellow looks like puss depending on the dye so maybe sickness for that. I figured that I might as well put some musings on the colour black to put forward my two cents on it.

Black is Void, it is the Primal. It represents pure potential. The amount of deities that are considered dark or black skinned and associated with deeply transcendental topics is proof of this. If Black absorbs every colour, then it has the capacity of every colour within it. Therefore, Black is akin to white in its multitude of uses.

Black represents Reception, it draws all colours in. If it does draw all colours in, then what represents a better colour for psychic work than black. Its protective qualities are also up there and I can't think of a better colour for Spiritual Illumination, Light coming from Nothing.

It is useful for flame gazing. Let us assume that you are in a dark room, a black candle will meld in with the rest of the room, leaving a beautiful flame. It again represents the Seed of Potential, the Holy Force of Mother Barbelo which extends through all Creation.

The Pillar of Severity holds the Sphere of Saturn (Binah, Understanding), Gevurah (Strength or Restraint) and Hod (Awe). Let us assume its transcendental qualities apply to it. Awe represents the understanding and Mercurial Adoration of G-d, that being Understanding which is also found within the Sphere of Saturn. Gevurah is the Restraint placed on the Expansiveness of Chesed, thus it is the representation of the ability of the Infinite One to control the Everlasting Love for each person according to their proportion. Binah is associated with Archetypal Understanding. Therefore, we can find a deeply beautiful metpahor in the Colour Black representing the Capacity to fully Understand. The same understanding can also be found in the representation of the Void and Light (Light represented by the Flame).

Black was revered by the Ancient Egyptians because black was the colour of the inundated soil from the Nile! Black meant bounty and positivity, protection and blessings <3

Spiritual Hygiene

Spiritual hygiene is basically keeping yourself, cleansed, protected and grounded spiritually. People tend to try and do this through daily practices, which for some can be hard to upkeep. As someone with depression and can be lazy at times- sticking to routines can be difficult for me. So here’s some “basics” you can try to slowly add to your day to day that will give you a regular spiritual hygiene routine.

Cleanse yourself when you shower: This can be as simple as asking the water to cleanse you while you shower. Sometimes showering can be hard- for times like this i recommend a cleansing spray. Quick and fairly low spoons. But if you want to put more energy into this step you can enchant your soap/body wash for cleansing, hang eucalyptus above your shower and ask it to cleanse you, make a shower sachet, use spellcrafted oils for cleansing, ect.

Enchant your jewelry and/or skincare for protection: Obviously this one is for when you feel up to doing an actual spell. But, once its done you can just put your jewelry or skincare on for the day and be good to go. Every once in awhile take a moment to check in with your jewelry/items and see if it needs to be cleansed (or make a jewelry cleansing bowl) or needs to be re-enchanted.

Ground yourself when you wake up: once you wake up take even a minute to ground and center yourself. This works both if youre a person like myself who needs to lay in bed for a few minutes before getting up, or if youre a crazy person whos ready to go right away.

Even doing these three things through the week will help build you a strong spiritual hygiene routine and daily practice. Remember to take your time when building a daily practice, and forgive yourself if it’s not done everyday. ✨🫶🏻

Yesterday was the birthday of Heru-Wer (Haroeris), He With the Eyes of Moon and Sun! Admittedly we do not know this Name very well so we spent some time researching for offerings. His candle is scented with clove, cinnamon and orange with yellow wildflowers, citrine and agate. He also got mandarin oranges and a gingerbread cookie!

I'd like to get to know this Name better. Our lineup is VERY lunar while Em's partner (@be-your-bast) has a lineup that is very solar. So to have those two themes in one Netjer is FASCINATING to both of us. So if you have any interesting stories or information you'd like to share, please do!

new to kemet

hello, I've been thinking and trying to work with the gods. so far I've been working with Bastet and Anubis. I have a very small alter (currently closeted pagan? i guess.) and don't have much to give to them, i try and offer any food I can.

my current alter (yes, its in a drawer) there's some perfume, candles, water and cordial (I cant get access to alcohol, second best thing). I've also been trying to pray and meditate, I still don't know how exactly how I should pray?

Hey! Sorry if this has been repeated already but a good start is learning about Kemetic worship and the actual Kemetic names of the gods! For example Anubis was: Yinepu or Anpu

Other examples are Hathor was Hethert. Osiris was Wesir. Nepthys was Nebthet. And more! There are structured prayers you can find for them or you can just talk to them. To praise them, you can hail them by saying "Dua [god]"! Beer, bread and cool water are all acceptable, easy offerings for them.
