"Daniel, please come home! I know you dislike how my relationship with your mother turned out but please, I am trying. I want to be a part of your life, I want you to be my son."
The voices caught his attention, and Nightwing aimed his next grapple to take him back towards the sound, Red Robin seamlessly following him.
"After everything that's happened Vlad, after everything you did to my mother and father, why should I ever trust a word out of your mouth?"
"I SHOULD BE YOUR FATHER." The shout startled both brothers, who finally laid eyes on a dark haired pair fighting on a rooftop. The older one had blue-tinged skin and bright red eyes, fangs obvious as he yelled. His black hair seemed almost like a fog, switching between a ponytail and horns as they watched, and he wore a long red cape over a black and silver outfit. In his anger he was squeezing a...a thermos?
"That vile woman choosing another man and then poisoning you and your sister against me, it's not right! It should have been me from the beginning! Not that whitless oaf!
"First off, don't talk about my family like that." The man's younger counterpart spit out. He floated off the roof slightly, making himself eye to eye with the man as they argued. The boy was wearing a very similar outfit to the other's, though it seemed to be color swapped, black where the other has silver and vice versa. His eyes were an icy blue-green that glowed just as the man's did, and he had his own set of fangs visible when he spoke.
"Second, it's not poisoning us against you if she told us to avoid you because you're a creepy fucking psychopath that she didnt want around her kids! She gave you a chance to change, to choose her and be a family. You tried to kill the only man that was ever there for me because you chose wrong. It's no one's fault but your own that you wanted to have your family and eat them too."
"AND SPEAKING of poison, it's your fault that I'm like this in the first place! You cursed me to this life, and now I can never go back.'
"This isn't a curse Daniel, it's a beautiful gift. Power over the humans that would try to persecute us, abilities beyond mortal ken, and life everlasting, all sweet rewards for undergoing the agonizing pain of the change. And if you want to blame anyone for your current state, blame your mother. It was her negligence that caused your death and rebirth, hers and that oaf she married."
"Maybe she was a little naive and could have done better, but you knew. You knew what happened last time and you refused to tell either of them what went wrong or how. You knew it would happen again and yet did nothing but stand by, waiting for one of us to make the mistake. Well I did. I made that mistake and stepped through those doors and now my life, for all that it goes on, is over. I died and came back, became something against the very laws of nature, and then cursed my sister and closest friends to the same fate. All because you were too set on getting what you wanted to ever bother keeping the children you claim should be yours safe."
The dark haired teen shook his head and sunk back to the roof anger had floated him off of.
"I want nothing to do with you Vlad. I don't want your money or your castle or your company. I want you to stay away from me, from all of us. We may be cursed to the same existence as you, but that doesn't make us family."
He yanked the thermos from the elder's hands and drained it of a viscous red liquid, licking his lips when his head tilted back down and a red stain remained behind. The boy's eyes glowed brighter.
"Stay away from my family Vlad. You lost your chance to call them yours, and I can promise you won't get another. Just..."
He turned his back on the older male, either foolish, prideful, or both, and sighed. "Just stay away."
The boy faded into a bat, or was it a bat-shaped shadow? Mist? and flew away, leaving the other man alone on the roof save for the watching Bats. "Vlad" abandoned the roof as well, not shifting form as he flew though he did become more translucent.
Well. Maybe B hadn't killed Dracula after all. And even if he had there were obviously more vampires out there, some appearing to be actively changing others. Nightwing looked at Red Robin and they both nodded before swinging off in separate directions, Red to follow the older man while he chased after the younger.
