I am only about 50 minutes into the new season of Stranger Things and I'm already seething about something that'll probably become plot relevant later so I'm gonna rant and add onto this later if I'm right

Will was so ready to help Steve he was the most knowledgeable and the best option to send into what is likely very dangerous but not bad for someone who I'm assuming is in about sophomore or junior year of high school. It should've been anxiety inducing but not EXTREMELY dangerous to send him

And yet Joyce says no. Which I very much understand that's her baby talking about going somewhere very dangerous I'm not mad about that any mother would say that

What I'm *mad* about is that she then *immediately* turned to Johnathan her other child and asked if he would go instead despite the fact that he's less knowledgeable and a worse choice. She was willing to sacrifice the safety of her eldest child to keep a simple peace of mind for herself for Will! And Johnathan could tell! Everyone could tell! It's obvious!

I'm not saying that Joyce is a bad mom she's doing the best with what she's got available but I will scream from the rooftops how much favoritism she has towards Will to the point of turning Johnathan into a glass child. Yes Will's gone through a lot and should be handled with a tiny bit of extra care but she's not letting him heal or be normal and she's not giving Johnathan any sort of care for what he's gone through

Is this a safe space to say that Belinda's ending (becoming a mom bc of the wish of a white man) would've landed and tied together so much better had she been written with a desire to have/have had children?

Like I understand that it was bad writing all around for this ending of the new season and that Belinda deserved so much better as a WOC reduced to a mom (bc I didn't see a lick of a mention of her successful nursing job), but the ending would've absolutely landed if, throughout the rest of the season, she'd even just *mentioned* wishing she'd had kids or saying she wanted to have some. The fact that she didn't even once mention it was a pretty big part of what made it bad writing to me.

I'm sure that there's a lot more that can be pointed out as bad writing on Miss Belinda Chandra's ending, but this is the part that I have the most confidence talking about and knowing what I'm talking about, so I will leave the rest of the discourse to the people who know what they're talking about. Just wanted to say my piece.
