They didn't introduce a bill to just repeal the $35 cap on insulin.

They introduced a bill to repeal the entire Inflation Reduction Act.

Which, among other things, means they want to get rid of:

the $35 insulin cap.

And a yearly cap of $2,000 for medications in Medicare Part D.

And allowing Medicare to negotiate for drug prices.

And requiring pharma companies to issue refunds to Medicare if the costs of their drugs rises faster than inflation

And an elimination of copays in Medicare Part D for vaccines like tetanus and rabies

And an expansion of eligibility for low-income subsidies for Medicare

Saying they want to eliminate just the insulin cap is understating their desire to fuck people over.

this mindset has been so healing for me. a big part of my journey to self-acceptance has been unlearning the ways in which my culture told me that my female body dictated how I should behave. now I just focus on existing, just like any other mammal.

I like the civility on your blog and posts. I think the world needs more people like you nowadays ♡. I liked your recent post on gender dysphoria, and I wanted to say my piece. Whether you post this or just decide to read this is up to you, no pressure. 👍

I also used to identify as a trans/nonbinary for about 2 or 3 years. So that goes to say I am not transphobic by any means. I respect people who identify differently or think they are a different gender identity. I worked through my issues and figured out the actual reason I was feeling that way. It was mostly due to internalized misogyny, me not stereotypically looking like a woman, and an abusive past with men. So, I stopped identifying as such. Now, I'm just a woman.

I think that there are a lot of people nowadays with unresolved issues that end up identifying differently because of their past traumas with their sex. Then, these medical professionals affirm that even though that might not be the case.

I think that medical professionals should be doing way more when a person says they think they might be a different gender to make sure of that is the case and that it is not something else.

People who say that should not be started on drugs or surgeries until they get to the core issues of the problem. There are a lot more detransitioners coming out nowadays telling their stories. I know that, unfortunately, there will be way more in the future because the medical professionals are not doing the actual work to diagnose/treat a person and slapping on a bandaid on a bigger issue.

our stories are very similar and unfortunately quite common. i don’t think i’ve met a single trans person that didn’t also experience some sort of severe trauma or other diagnosed mental illness/disorder. these doctors and therapists SHOULD be asking questions and trying to get to the bottom of WHY people are identifying as a different gender instead of just handing out hormones because the patient wants them. i’ve met THREE trans people irl who’ve told me they have PTSD related to CSA. this is obviously tragic, but it also makes perfect sense why someone who’s experienced that kind of trauma would not feel at home in their body and conclude that it needs to be altered. i’ve noticed previous struggles with eating disorders are also common with trans people i’ve met…i could go into a whole other ramble into all the uncomfortable overlaps i’ve noticed gender dysphoria has with with EDs. but you just have to wonder if any of these issues were properly unpacked with a specialist before these people transitioned. i didn’t want to pry when these friends opened up to me about these struggles ofc, but considering MY experience at a very well known “gender affirming care” clinic in my area where i was prescribed testosterone after talking to a “doctor” for roughly a half an hour i’m inclined to think the answer is probably no.

i wouldn’t even say i’m 100% against medical transition, but considering how taxing cross-sex hormones & surgeries are on the body i think it’s probably best if it’s only done in a “last resort” scenario where other, less invasive treatments like general therapy are not helping the patient’s gender dysphoria. but the medical community pushes hormones SO HARD and the trans community is adamant that hormones and surgeries are the only option for people with gender dysphoria when that simply isn’t true in my own experience. a lot of the detransitioners currently coming out and telling their stories and filing lawsuits are basically confirming all of these concerns. that they had traumas or mental illnesses they weren’t properly addressed and were prescribed hormones way too quickly and way too young to properly understand everything they were agreeing to. i feel like in a decade a lot is going to be different and we’re all going to be looking back on this era wondering what the fuck these doctors were thinking.
