@gingerautomaton
This is literally the funniest fucking thing Edgeworth has ever said
I will be 70 years old and I still will never have gotten over the time the Mythbusters used a rocket powered steel wall to - and I use this word as literally as possible - vaporize an entire car into red mist
https://youtu.be/Nl8xTqTUGCY
If you haven’t seen this episode of Mythbusters I feel so bad for you because “What car?” remains to this day as a defining moment of my adolescence and my entire life
That was a near-religious experience
I made a gif of it for those of you who cant watch the video in your country. Or if you know you just want to stare at it mesmerized like me
Oh wow they sure did vaporise that car into red mist

I’m partial to the “Can a Snowplow Split a Car in Two” one. The answer was “No”, so they naturally ramped it up. Which led to this
A rocket powered, sharpened steel wedge slicing a car (with its engine!) in two, right down the middle

mfw i gotta stick to streaming indie games and japanese games cause the western companies keep funding genocide
Also the games are $70... and I can get an indie game for less than half that and the developer also deserves continued existence.
I love this ignorant flearther meme because it really shows the main mental failure of flat earthers, how they can't comprehend the size of the Earth.
Notice how they added a velocity blur to the Earth pic because they can't wrap their mind around the concept that Earth's surface can have a linear velocity of thousands of kh/h but have an angular velocity (which is what makes you feel the centrifugal force in the first 2 pics) of just 1 rotation per 24 hours.
If a playground roundabout spun at 1 rotation per 24 hours you'd barely notice it either.
If a playground roundabout had the linear velocity of Earth's surface it would have to spin roughly 265,789 times per second, which is 10 times faster than the fastest centrifuges we ever built.
Can Vetinari please be in charge of all my meetings
Please. Shorten my many (unnecessary) meetings. I joined the army for action and adventure, I got the meeting about the meeting next week.

Christians: Does it matter if Jesus' resurrection was literal and bodily or not? I'm just curious what you think.
I believe that Jesus rose bodily and it matters a lot
I believe that Jesus rose bodily and it is not key to my faith
I believe Jesus did not rise bodily and it matters a lot
I believe Jesus did not rise bodily and it's not key to my faith
I fall somewhere between these
see results
Make no mistake; if he rose at all It was as His body; If the cell's dissolution did not reverse, the molecule reknit, the amino acids rekindle, the Church will fall. It was not as the flowers, each soft spring recurrent; It was not His Spirit in the mouths and fuddled eyes of the Eleven apostles; It was as His flesh; ours. The same hinged thumbs and toes The same valved heart That —pierced— died, withered paused, and then regathered out of the enduring Might New strength to enclose. Let us not mock God with metaphor, Analogy, sidestepping, transcendence, Making of the event a parable, a sign painted in the faded Credulity of earlier ages: Let us walk through the door. The stone is rolled back, not papier-mache, Not a stone in a story, But the vast rock of materiality that in the slow grinding of Time will eclipse for each of us The wide light of day. And if we have an angel at the tomb, Make it a real angel, weighty with Max Planck's quanta, vivid with hair, opaque in The dawn light, robed in real linen Spun on a definite loom. For let us not seek to make it less monstrous, For our own convenience, our own sense of beauty, Lest, awakened in one unthinkable hour, we are embarrassed By the miracle, And crushed by remonstrance.
- John Updike, "Seven Stanzas at Easter"

@kunounohana But let me put another argument for you based in empiricism. Say it is the early 1950s and we are having the debate about nuclear safety. We put forward the thesis that “nuclear energy is not safe” and to test that theory we set up an experiment to invalidate that theory by allowing the operation of nuclear power stations for the next 75 years. Today is the day we assess the results of our experiment. The empirical evidence of disasters like Chernobyl, Fukushima Daiichi and Three Mile Island lead us to conclude that the thesis is correct despite our best attempts to disprove it. I point this out only to be told that I must be a flat-earther and an anti-vaxxer because nuclear energy is safe because we say so makes me angry because my argument is grounded in evidence. A system does what it does not what it is designed to do.
Ok! Let’s check in!
Wow! It’s almost as if you ARE in fact anti-vaxxer and flat-earther levels of misinformed about the safety of nuclear power. Remember that no one was even hurt at TMI, that no one died from radiation at Fukushima, and that the best estimates of Chornobyl deaths are lower than those of the Bhopal disaster. You have a perception of nuclear safety worse aligned with reality than Andrew Wakefield does of vaccines.
Is this the level of empiricism, rationality, and scientific thinking they taught you in grad school? You should sue, you clearly got scammed.
Worth noting also that burning coal for power releases more radioisotopes into the environment than nuclear. Unless something goes horribly wrong with a nuclear plant they dont release any, whereas coal releases radioisotopes and more every minute of every day. Look at the pollution index of any chinese city, a nation that uses majority coal, and compare with France, where they chose to go all in on nuclear power.
the bar was so low i don't know what I expected.
Missing Godbert
Talked about the edge of the ACW stuff so much I guess I should lay out his actual main idea, which is that a lot of this "nuclear threshold" stuff is elaborate self-psychological manipulation and not to be taken too seriously, and that the real nuclear threshold is when the command reaches what he calls "The very bad day" as he encapsulates with this image:
Yeah, the nightmarish question that we haven't had to ask so far is:
"What happens when a dying nuclear nation decides that its national interest requires conquering that guy over there?"
Specifically, what happens when Russia demands free rein over 200 Million Ukrainians, Poles, Estonians, etc on pain of Boston?
Yes he did discuss Sinai and the Falklands as examples of failed nuclear deterrence but there's an argument for adding Kazakhstan & friends and when you do it puts a spin on that question and how we should think of it.
I mean, I wish Kazakhstan the best, but we can't get to Kazakhstan because we're a naval power. Ukraine isn't the first war for the borderlands, it's the 9th since the fall of the USSR.
What happens when they start looking at Poland?

Feyd, internally: what the fuck? He’s got a signature gang sign before a fight AND a catch phrase? I usually skip straight ahead to killing people. Does he always do this? Is it weird I’m not doing this? Okay what is my response going to be? You know if I win this fight I’m absolutely using this on the next guy. Oh shit everybody is looking at me, quick say something
“May THY knife chip and shatter” fucking nailed it Feyd…
