I went to a library book sale this weekend and I found a very old book called “Electronic Life: How to Think About Computers,” which was published in I think 1975? I’ve been reading it kind of like how I would read a historical document, and it’s lowkey fascinating

Can the computer create something? At first glance it seems obvious that it can. Animated computer graphics, with their fluid transitions and whiplash perspectives, look strikingly new. I keep thinking about this moment because it was really sweet and unprompted. Catherine was so excited to be there and wanted so badly to do a good job (she did a GREAT job with maybe the hardest episode yet) and to get a little praise from someone with as much Dropout success as Ify? You can't buy an ego boost like that!

She also really IS good at Game Changer because there's no damn way I would've ever figured out the trick, let alone as fast as she did. Also the fact she instinctively just gave away everything she learned to help other constestants. I hope they bring her back for a less chaotic episode soon.

another thing i tend to think about with this. i also just think in chapter 5 there's a theme of care and dependency. the flowers have extreme guilt over being taken care of by asgore. flowery conceptualizes himself as weak and useless. in the dark world, his fantasy, he tries to return the care given to him to asgore to "make up for" asgore taking care of him when he should've died decades ago. it's an extreme example, but i also resonate with his feeling.

when your body or mind puts you in a situation where your reliance on other people becomes really explicit, you're trained by the world to see that as shameful or to see yourself as deficient. your efforts to ignore your needs just to avoid "being a burden," will leave you worse off. you punish yourself because of deeply internalized ableism.

regardless, even by virtue of being a living thing on this planet, you are already designed to need others. you have to listen to your body's needs even against a society that teaches you you shouldn't. you have to be okay with the fact that you have needs. sometimes your needs are different or are greater than the person next to you, and all you can do is listen to your body and turn to others when you need them. you're still a person when you need people.

as far as toby's said it, having to expand his team has made deltarune a better game. chapter 5 is so expansive because so many people helped to make it. Pink's fight has sprite work from guest artists, music with Camellia, bullets programmed by Toby's team. She is, to me, a love letter to Deltarune's development process as a whole and how it has shaped Toby, and a reflection of the kinds of thoughts Toby has shared with us about developing Deltarune alongside pain. I also think it's a beautiful follow-up to Gerson's themes of storytelling and authorship (letting go of "perfection" + accepting the contributions of others = both about rescinding control and embracing perseverance). Pink is also so much more than this, but I've been thinking about this a lot.

Swiss Insults, Curses and other (non rude) Slang

Since today is the birthday of Switzerland I decided I should do something for it that can also be enjoyed by my non-swiss followers (Who are btw the majority) After a while it hit me and I created this List of Swissgerman Insults and other often heard Expressions!

For you see, Swissgerman is a bunch of dialects (actually way more than one) that most German people do not only find rather incomprehensible but it also has its specialities and sometimes very different words. So I mostly used expressions that differ from German ones/ are unique. Also I only speak one of the dialects, so most things are said a little differently elsewhere

There are 2-3 that are also used in German (even with slightly diff. prononciation), but we use them so much here that they deserved a mention.

Also not all things here are insults/curses, some are just exclamations

But enough of that, y’all can go read Wikipedia for more infos,               here’s the List! 

Nua : Not used anymore, has gained a different meaning

Swissgerman/ Translation/ Usage, Meaning

Blas du mir id Schueh!/ Blow my shoes!/ annoyed; leave me alone with that! ‘nicer’ form of “Lick my arse!”

Blödi Chue; dummi Chue!/ Stupid Cow/ used for women and girls, prob. first rather strong curse used by children

Chäs/ Cheese/ Nonsense, rubbish; E.g: “Verzeu ke Chäs!” -> “Don’t talk nonsense/crap!”

Cheib/ lit. [infected] carrion (Nua)/ mostly ‘dumme cheib’ -> ‘stupid guy’; cheibe is used as an universal adjective

Chasch mi mau!/ You can [ ] me!/ short for Lick my arse

Chasch mi filme!/ You can film me!/ ’nicer’ form of “Lick my arse!” often when you don’t want to do smth someone suggests

Dummi Geiss!/ stupid goat/ like ‘Blödi Chue’, but more likely to imply ‘bitchy’

Figä/ rude: “visage/face”/ e.g: “Mach ni sone dummi Figä!” “Don’t make such a stupid face”, way more ruder in swissgerman

huärä/ Whore/ used as an adverb like “fucking/totally/extremely” are in english, to such a high degree that you’ll probably hear it 300 times a day, can stand alone e.g: “Hetz der hüt gfaue?” “Jo huärä!” -> “Did you enjoy it today?” “Yes, very!” compatible with (nearly) every noun on this list

Löu/ dolt/ Self-explanatory

Mer; Per/ Mother; Father/ said like the french words, for some reason rather rude, used by teenagers (mostly when parents aren’t present), NOT used like “Mom, Dad and Ma” in english

Schafseckel/ sheeps testicals/ very strong, “du bisch en schafseckel” something along the lines of “you are an arsehole”

Schafseeleguete Mönsch/ Human with a good, sheep-like soul/ Euphemism for Schafseckel, for example when children are around: “Sone (Such a) Schafse-(sees kids) eleguete Mönsch”

Schöggeler/ Chocolatemade into a Verb, made into a Noun/ A Person who is very laxly/easygoing, always takes the easy route in life

Siech/ lit. Sick Person, leper, outcast of society (all mostly Nua)/ very common for Dude, used negatively and positively e.g: “Geilä Siech!” -> “(you’re) Awesome dude!”; “Blödä Siech!” -> “stupid Arsehole!”

Sürmu/ ??/ human being that annoys you, often someone who “seeks” for quarrels/arguments, not used anymore by young people

Tubu; Tubel; Dubel/ Idiot/ Self-explanatory 

Wichser/ Wanker/ One who masturbates, same use as in english (German Version the same but pronounced differently) (Actually its no different than German - just the prononciation sounds lixe “xx” in german)

Zickä/ female goat/ someone whos bitchy

Of course you can combine almost everything with eachother, e.g.: “Huere geilä Siech!”

There are a lot more, but those were the ones I could think of right now, so yeah, enjoy or whatever^^

Between friendship breakdowns and burnout, the five of them were just starting to heal in various ways. Suna especially hoped to strengthen their small community, for them to know her beyond what she once was.

Stella and Ichi both got over being starstruck relatively quickly; they’d had several deep conversations with Happy, Enanan, and Suna, so they couldn’t take those steps back. They had no problem with keeping identities secret.

Stella especially wanted to be able to reach their audiences through their music, so she spent a lot of time with Suna composing their songs. Ichi was their main vocalist, since nobody would automatically recognize her voice.

With Enanan on art and Happy on the video production, the five of them were like a well-oiled machine. Of course, there were plenty of hiccups here and there, especially in their real lives.

Thanks to their already-present bonds, they were able to talk through them and be there for each other, something that none of them really had for a long time in their lives.
