i support universal free healthcare for one simple reason: if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness you should quit your job. quitting your job is the correct response to terminal illness. but you can’t do that if your healthcare is tied to your job

Everybody who thinks vaccines are categorically unproven, dangerous, conspiracy-laced marks-of-the-beast, should really sit down and read about the state of contagious diseases in all of global human history and the actual centuries of scientific effort which have gotten us to where we are today, where these things have largely been eradicated or are part of standardized medical care and outbreaks are much less common and far less deadly. (And then maybe go visit some graveyards that are at least 100 years old and take note of those "random" years and months that have a whole lot of graves.) Like, idk, maybe they'll realize how absolutely bonkers insane it is to be anti-vaccinations.

The christian family in these memes (which are absolutely all over facebook these days) genuinely do always look miserable. Who the fuck is relating to these stock mormon farm cultists. That is a couple who made love only once in pitch darkness with bags on their heads then celebrated the pregnancy with a feast of uncooked potatoes and warm tapwater. The baby seems intrigued though. idk man when i was a kid i remember a lot of adults saying "if you can read and follow directions, you can cook" so i was like yes i can do these two things. doesn't seem that hard. and it wasn't! so it just always surprises me when i see people of any age who are capable of reading and following directions bemoaning how impossibly hard cooking is. like i know i'm always on this hobbyhorse but it just seems like a lot of people have never developed basic life skills and instead of going "oh wow that's embarrassing, i should learn and catch up" they instead get defensive and turn it into a learned-helplessness thing where they CAN'T POSSIBLY be expected to learn something that's SOOOO HARD. and suddenly somehow we're the oppressors for thinking it's weird that a grown adult can't grill themselves a cheese.
