not to derail this very true and accurate post because it applies to so many things, but Iām convinced that this is why nobody will listen to or read the hostagesā testimonies of their captivity.
the suffering they have endured and the harrowing conditions theyāve shared since their releases should be widely heard, but theyāre not. (and I donāt just mean here on Tumblr where those articles only get like a dozen or so notes and never leave the circle of jumblr/allies. their stories are not being relayed in the world much at all.) many Western outlets arenāt running them, even if the reporting has been done in or translated into English. even many outlets that are seemingly obsessed with the war wonāt cover what the hostages have been through.
thus, to get whole documentation of their interviews, where do we turn? TOI, JPost, Ynet, the Jewish Chronicle, etc. which, regardless of their integrity and their documented standards, have already been dismissed by the world as (((propaganda))). weāre bearing witness to these atrocities, and in real time the hostages are being relegated to the dustbin globally.
all because theyāre Jews (mostly - the Thai and Bedouin hostages have shared similar experiences of abuse and have been duly ignored as well), being reported on by Jewish run sources, being sympathized with and shared by other Jews.
those same sources are the ones primarily covering the rise of the antisemitism and the hate crimes across the diaspora, day in and day out. only, again, they can't escape being Jewish publications or covered by Jewish journalists, and shared with alarm by Jewish readers. and who wants to listen to (((them))), right?
of course the conclusion is to never listen and to call all of it overdramatic or selfish or lies. if you dismiss everything an affected community is telling you and recording, then you will never see the harm being done, because you are not observing it, you're participating in it.
