The goddess screamed in agony and rage, her voice like whisper in wind over water's roaring
Sailors aim spears but are swiftly snatched up by strong nets from the maiden's hair
As water floods the ship, cowardly Kujon gained first time's courage
Tying rope to a large hook, a strong toss threw the metal around the mast
Flat bow around chest and arrow between teeth, Kujon scales up the wooden pole
Balancing precariously, he draws back bowstring with shaky breath with ring on arrow's tip
Cries of fear from fellowmen steadies his aim, firing at goddess's chest
Net drops onto deck as deity shapeshifts into a massive wave, swallowing the ring and ship remnants
Coming down from mast's top, he frees the other sailors as storm passes overhead
Cheers are had all around, Kujon now named Modig
Legend of Modig spreads across the cold seas and grasslands, the story of his bravery in time of need
Sailing across the Norwegian Sea, beware of sunny skies and easy hauls for the sea goddess RĂĄn snatches unsuspecting sailors
But if you have the courage of Modig, draw back your bow, suck in a breath, and release your arrow full of bravery and vigour

It's been fun writing this poem!
I will clarify a few things when it comes to this poem:
Q: Is this poem a real legend?
A: No, it is not. Kujon is just the Danish word for 'coward' and Modig is the Danish word for 'brave'. In a sense, you could say I created an OC just for this legend.
Q: Is RĂĄn a real goddess?
A: She is acknowledged in history as a goddess of the sea in Norse mythology. All my knowledge is based on the Wikipedia article for the Norse goddess RĂĄn. I actually wanted to use a non-generic sea goddess for this but I realized that it would be sort of culturally insensitive so I went searching and found RĂĄn who is in Norse mythology.
Q: Which country is this located in?
A: Good question! Originally, I planned for it to be Scandinavian, but when I learned that Scandinavia is just the name that denotes a lot of countries in the far north of Europe, I then only used countries that are considered Scandinavian, so Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
Q: What time period is this set in?
A: I don't really know, but I did use bow and arrows in this poem (or should I say only a single arrow) and I checked to see what weapons Vikings used, so anytime during the Viking age.
Q: Why did you write this as a legend?
A: Truthfully, this was originally supposed to be a story of a captain and his crew overcoming the sea goddess's wrath somehow but I didn't know with what method until I used one of Wolfy's words as a basis for the rest of the legend being about a sailor who overcomes his fear: 'um'
Q: Are all your sources online?
A: Yes, as I have no museums nearby me I can visit, and this isn't even my culture at all, as I'm Iranian. That being said, the part of this legend that is fake is the ring. I'm unaware if RĂĄn does actually have a ring from her husband, and if she does, if it has pearls at all. I improvised a lot when it comes to this.
Q: Will you be using Modig in future works?
A: When I finished writing this poem, I figured that because I created Modig for this legend, he's technically an original creation of sorts. If someone wants me to write about him more, then that's fine! If someone else wants to use him as well, that's okay! He's supposed to represent bravery in the face of fear and protecting others can give you strength. In my eyes, someone who stands up against a sea goddess by shooting an arrow at her while in the middle of a storm is worthy of being called brave, but there's more to courage than returning a lost ring. It's understanding when to step in and how, and remembering that you're always stronger than those who say you aren't.
a little more information regarding the maui wildfires:
medical workers on the ground are describing finding hundreds of bodies. the current death toll in the media is, unfortunately, only a fraction of the reality
hospital workers are describing injuries and trauma as if survivors had come out of a warzone
thousands are still missing
an apartment complex for the elderly was lost. not everyone could get out. people were saying goodbye to loved ones over the phone
people who did get out of lahaina were leaving with ashes covering their faces and nothing but the clothes on their backs. people are losing everything.
hotels are still operating. hotels are still operating. they are not the ones offering shelters or housing or food. even bowling alleys are offering shelter, but hotels have the audacity to build on burial sites but not open their doors to local families who have lost everything.
donate to maui united way, the maui food bank, mutual aid, and maui humane society
Hey if you work for a major company that you fucking hate, but they also have a Diversity, Inclusion, Culture Department⊠check if they offer donation matching.
Your $10 donation can turn into $20
Your $50 donation can turn into $100
I completely forgot until an org put it at the bottom.
Noticed something a little funky in the world around you and want to figure out what's up? Especially if there might be something you ought to be doing about it? Not sure what information sources to trust these days? If you're in the US, federal agencies like NOAA, USGS, EPA and more collect massive amounts of scientific data every day, much of which is publicly available online - if you know where to look.
A PDF version with clickable links is available for free on my itchio page (quakeandquiver); I'll add a direct link in a reblog.
i wish more people were aware the vast majority of crisis lines have the power to call the police and will call the police on you if you express that youâre suicidal because i see crisis lines being spread all the time in leftist spaces but most people donât add the information about police and i think that can be really dangerous. itâs fucked up that crisis lines can do that and i really fucking hate it and i wish that it was more widespread knowledge so that people could make informed choices about the resources they access.Â
I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids wonât even google this stuff because they donât want parents/siblings checking their browser history.
This is really awesome. And if youâre not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works - the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list - look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.
You know what? Destroy the "people in rural areas are all ignorant conservatives" stereotype and start mocking the "trad"/anti-feminist/neonazi people that are obsessed with rural areas despite having never been to one
I'm absolutely laughing my ass off at all these "Traditional Femininity" blogs that post nothing but aesthetic photos of supposed "Rural Life"

If you saw an actual woman farmer you would think you were seeing the Masculinization Of Women By The Degenerate Left
I live in a no-stoplight-no-starbucks-no-fast-food town in the backwoods of Virginia, and I have seen a toothless redneck at the gas station go off on someone for being a dick about a trans woman, telling him that if he didn't want to show some basic manners, he should move up north.
good time to remember that the Southern U.S. population is significantly more progressive and ethnically diverse than you've been taught to believe.
southern states are gerrymandered to hell--specifically to prevent the majority from overthrowing the conservative political chokehold. this is by design and a direct inheritance of the civil war (to keep former slaves and their descendants as politically disenfranchised as possible). Southern politics do not reflect southern reality. And neither do media portrayals. there is a reason the media wants you to think of the south as white, conservative, poor, and uneducated: to keep southern progressives isolated. to alienate northern liberals from disenfranchised southerners (especially southerners of color).
it's just another divide-and-conquer strategy. because that's what conservatives are good at--controlling the narrative in order to rewrite history and sow discord between groups that should be helping each other. Because unity is powerful, and it makes us dangerous.
tl;dr the south has always been more liberal than you think, it's the decades of voter suppression & systematic disenfranchisement controlling the narrative. (and yes this extends to gender and queer issues too)
Southerner here, can confirm. All of it, the gerrymandering, the shifting attention to "if you don't support the military you're a monster" but not taking care of veterans when their constituents are begging for VA improvements. The VA serves mostly marginalized groups, BIPoC Vietnam vets who aren't in the Agent Orange wing by choice, who are missing limbs, more modern vets who were victims of sa and have PTSD, vets with addiction bc that's the only way to make the memories fade. Masc and Femme people who's bodies have been permanently, non-consenually been damaged that need addiction help, psych help, drugs delivered on time and the people in charge the "party of the military" just cuts the budget and privatizes it while every damn constituent wants to care for others.
We're kind down here, not nice. The gerrymandering makes us look mean, unforgiving, unempathetic, r*cist, all of it, and it's not true.
Oh god twitter is on the verge of collapsing. Wow. This post will probably reach no one but I'll make it anyway just in case.
If you've just started using Tumblr PLEASE read this message: Tumblr is not built like twitter, it's a nice place but you can't use it the same way you used twitter or instangram or every other social media. If you find yourself stuck or confused feel free to comment and I'll try to help.
Examples of how strange this place is:
Having lots of followers is meaningless & reblogs are your ONLY tool to be seen by others
the tagging system is used to classify your content, to keep your blog in order AND to make funny comments all at the same time
censoring words is Actively harmful towards people who want to avoid triggers
on the app, links work only when they want to. There's an easy way to fix it but it's manual. Seriously this place is a dumpster fire-
bots are everywhere and if you DON'T want to be followed by a bot, or to be mistaken for one.
Tumblr is not an easy place to navigate, so here's a small list of links to fast learn how to:
The basics of etiquette and how to live a peaceful life here
Another one on how to interact and how to curate your experience
Other basics things to know
Now to specific things:
The SHADOWBAN
How to work with LINKS here
How to make a READ MORE to shorten your post
The difference between Primary and Secondary blogs
How to make custom themed blog (for the Advanced)
I'm so sorry for all the people that used Twitter as its main source of income to find jobs, we'll try our best to support you.
And if Twitter doesn't die then, feel free to stay anyway if you like it here ^-^
Hi I saw you left LND :( may I ask why? I enjoyed your presence in the off topic channel
I think I know who this is, but I think it's best to ask the admins. I'm permanently banned anyways, so meh, can't come back. Besides, even if I was offered to come back, I'd see it as a slap to the face. I don't respect people who go back on their decisions that were due to their own moral code and rules. They have their own lives and I have mine, so I'm well past it tbh. I honestly would have been fine with being permanently muted since I thought the bot would have been disconnected from my private server for news, but since it wasn't, I see no reason in going back. Besides, I wouldn't want them to slit their own wrists in grief if I were to be unbanned. Honestly, I'm not surprised someone reached out, but I am surprised someone noticed it this quick.
Again, I'm fine with being banned, but I wouldn't be fine with being unbanned, since as said above, I don't respect people who go back on moral decisions.
Prof you fucking genius is it seasonal? Like it happens in spring cause the flowers bloom? Imagine it hitting hanahaki season and looking around a room and seeing whose missing, whoâs out on sick leave, thr curiosity the DRAMA
#this is honestly how I initially thought hanahaki in fic worked #coughing up flowers for years because you wonât cop to your feelings? #thatâs the stuff #the dying thing puts on really uncomfortable pressure for me #like âlove me back or Iâll dieâ is uncomfortable as hell for me #whereas âADMIT YOUâRE IN LOVE YOU JUST COUGHED UP A BOUQUET!â #hanahaki-suffering person: ânoâ
THIS IMMEDIATELY IMPROVES THE ENTIRE TROPE! I had really disliked Hanahaki because itâs almost like the other person - if theyâre a good person - is sorta blackmailed into either having feelings or being responsible for your death which is Not Romantic, but I can totally get down for FEELIGS made into an aggravating physical metaphor that you could potential deal with if youâd either confront them or get therapy or something.
I am in awe at how much this tweak changes the trope of hanahaki from something I quietly detest from a distance into something I would gleefully read and giggle about to others.
Honestly I donât even think itâs even the removal of the death thing (like thatâs certainly helpful, but you can probably keep it, if you need it for the Drama) that saves it, so much as it is the idea that the problem is caused purely by you not admitting your feelings, rather than the other person not sharing them.
Like, in the standard version of Hanahaki, the point is that the disease is caused by unrequited love, and the afflicted end up coughing up increasingly large amounts of flowers, until either they suffocate or the other person returns their feelings.
A lot of versions do require a confession on top of that, but fundamentally the most important thing is the object of your affections developing specifically romantic feelings for you. Or you die.
As an aro person, Iâm sure I donât need to explain why this trope is uncomfortable for me, considering that it basically paints me as a potential death trap.
Plus some stories also feature âThe Surgeryâ, which removes the roots of the flowers from the victimâs lungs, thus saving their life, but in the process makes them incapable of romantic love, which is treated as the highest tragedy.
Chronic Hanahaki on its own would still kind of have this problem, itâs just toning it down a bitâ rather than being responsible for your death, your crush is instead just responsible for your continued pain/discomfort and frequent hospital visits. Better, but still kind of icky.
Chronic Hanahaki (that could still be potentially terminal in the long term, if you need extra drama) caused by not saying your feelings aloud, regardless of how the other person feels, on the other hand?
Beautiful. Great metaphor for the real effects that repressing your emotions can have on your body. Lots of dramatic potential.
Like, obviously thereâs your bog-standard âI love you but donât believe that you love me, so I will choose to suffer tragically alone rather than risk making you feel bad for not loving me backâ thing that the Hanahaki genre was made for, but thereâs room for more here as well.
Especially if you expand it to be about supressed emotions in general, rather than just romantic love.
For example:
The character who is in a relationship, but still has trouble verbalising their feelings sometimes, due to past trauma/mental illness, and thus still experiences recurring bouts of Hanahaki. Their partner who reassures them that itâs okay, that they know they love them, and that if they want to say it then thatâs fine, but if they donât feel they can right now then your flowers are beautiful babe, and thatâs fine too.
The character who notices flower petals lying around their kidâs room, and doesnât understand why their child wonât just tell them who they are in love with, so they can support them in confessing their feelings. Only to find out that their kid has actually been dating their same gender best friend for months now, and the Hanahaki was about coming out to their parent.
The autistic character with alexithymia, who by this point just treats coughing up the occasional flower petal as another, rather annoying autistic trait. âFuck,â they say, coughing up a blood-stained rose and holding it up for their friends to see. âAnyone got any ideas what this one could be about?â
The polar opposite of the traditional Hanahaki thing. The ever happy, toxic positivity character who will die from the flowers choking their lungs unless they finally admit that they kind of hate you sometimes.
The character at the funeral of a family member they had an extremely dysfunctional relationship with, defiantly coughing their flower petals right onto the grave, and refusing to admit that they felt anything other than dislike or indifference for them deep down, because even now, when theyâre dead and gone and it doesnât matter, âyou first, bitch.â
The character who witnessed or was told something that they arenât supposed to know, and not only has to deal with the secret eating away at them, but also has to come up with more and more reasons for why their Hanahaki isnât going away, even after they confess all their other secrets.
The character who, upon clearing out the house of a beloved elderly relative who recently died, finds a whole room full of rotting flowers, and is faced with the question of what their relativeâs big secret was.

i cannot stress this enough: if your reasoning for clowning on the mcu is "they overwork their cg artists and animators" i 1000% guarantee that a show or movie you have been stanning for years also abused their artists and you just haven't heard about it because the production companies aren't in the spotlight like mcu productions are. that cartoon for kids? that incredibly animated movie? that non-marvel superhero movie? i've seen people declare their hatred for the way the mcu treats their workers and then turn around and gush about a show that i know for a fact was hell for the artists attached
and no this is NOT me saying "this means you should stop hating on the mcu uwu" it's me saying you gotta be aware that this shit is an INDUSTRY WIDE PROBLEM. you CANNOT "fix" it by refusing to watch mcu movies and feeling good about it. you have to be aware that it's EVERYWHERE. why do you think so many animation and vfx productions are sourced in canada? in india and the phillipines? we are not unionized.
i know it's hard to face the idea that your favourite show might have been made unethically especially when you've spent so much time hating the mcu for doing the same thing. you don't have to start hating your favourite show. just like...be aware. don't be smarmy about it. don't claim without research that a beautifully animated movie Must mean the animators were not working 16 hour days and weekends. i do think we can fix this đ but we can't fix it if 90% of us don't even realize what the problem really is
now that it's come out that the spiderverse animators were working unsustainable hours yall need to be aware of this more than ever. even good movies aren't innocent of this. we often see the narrative of "see what happens if you pay animators well and give them time to work?" when it comes to good movies but. that is almost never the case. the artists are still being worked to the bone. the movie being good does not negate this.
Ok ik this isnât smth I usually do but the internet is in danger and I need to take action
Recently KOSA has got its first pass and we need to stop it from becoming a law ppl r saying call or email your senators to oppose this bill and this is true but what if youâre asking what I donât have one or what if I donât live in USA or just canât do anything since you are a minor well I am going to spread awareness of this petition so the people who are deciding this KOSA stuff can see this and possibly stop KOSA for good right now this petition only has around 10,000 signs and we need a lot more than that
âWhat is KOSA?â
KOSA aka online children safety act is a internet bill that claims that it will protect children from inappropriate stuff(18+ for ex) but actually Itâs gonna end up banning all apps and sites that are âinappropriateâ (tumblr for ex) and not only that itâs also gonna give your parents more access on what you are doing on the internet they are gonna view what sites youâve been on and everything giving minors NO privacy on their phones for ex: you havenât told your parents your part of the LGGTIA+ community welp this bill is gonna tell your parents that and youâre not ready yet
here is the petition
Save Our Free and Open Internet: Stop the Dangerous Kids Online Safety Act!
disclaimer: I did not started this petition I am just trying to spread awareness and attempt to save the internet
You could make a change, you could help stop KOSA and save the internet and save so many content creators from experience of this madness we wonât give up until KOSA is done for good remember anyone can take action to stop something that is wrong when either how to take a step is big or small
Hereâs what I want you guys to do
1: sign the petition
2: reblog this post
3: tag your friends and get them to do the same thing
4: if you can, spread this petition (not this post) to other sites for ex: YouTube,Discord,TikTok, or whatever apps you use
5: do anything else that can spread this across the internet
repost this ik I said donât repost my posts but this is an exception Idc just do whatever you can to spread this petition I am not losing everything over some dumb internet bill
[The artist, putting a simple cake next to a much fancier one: âAw man, that guyâs cake is way better than mine.â The Audience, gleefully holding up a knife and fork âHOLY SHIT! TWO CAKES!â]
Did you just legitimately tell me that a person who draws wolf ass is more competent than a dude who spent 8+ years in a university to give you your lung transplant?
doctors are bullshit and furry artists perform an infinitely more valuable service to society compared to them
It took doctorâs like 10 years to diagnose what was wrong with me, some insisting I was faking for attention while a furry artist I knew just went âthat sounds like crohnâsâ after hearing me complain once and ended up being right
Also I canât go to a doctor and ask them to draw Rouge the Bat wider than she is tall with tits to match, now can I

I made this post because I am disabled and no matter how much I practice there are some games I will never be able to play because I physically cannot move my fingers the way you have to and the responses to this post from other disabled people, people who grew up unable to play video games, and people who just arenât very good at them has been extremely enthusiastically positive, while people who apparently canât conceive of the idea that some people will never be good at gaming condescendingly comment, tag or send me asks telling me to try easy mode or to get good despite the fact that the feature Iâm describing already exists in some games and mods. if youâre part of the latter group, consider that some of us can not ever be good at video games and we still deserve to be able to participate and have fun
Ok, real talk, if you play PC games I use a program called Wemod that has settings for almost every game ever and you can change them to suit your needs
Unlimited health? one hit kill? unlimited items?
They canât mod multiplayer games, but every genre of game imaginable is on Wemod so I use it for everything from stardew valley, subnautica, hades, farming sim and more!
It mods the games to your level of ease without needing to mess with any files or get deep into webpages for mods yourself
It is a life changer
One, this is older siblings who watch younger siblings play erasure, two thatâs not the point. People deserve to enjoy the experience of playing a game for themselves. Watching someone play is fun. Playing yourself is a different kind of fun.
There are so many reasons why someone wouldnât want to be challenged by a game, and itâs ridiculous that people canât fathom someone requiring a different gameplay than themselves.Â
Back in the dark ages when I was a kid and we got our first computer, my dad noticed that I was sad because I wanted to play computer games like him, so he would let me play his games in god mode. Should a five year old have been playing Ultimate Doom? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy the shit out of it, particularly the part where I couldnât die and could just wander around aimlessly machine gunning demons to death with no real goal in mind? Hell yes.
Also, no one should have to explain the reason they want to play the game in god mode.
That is absolutely none of your business, if someone wants to play the game with max items, weapons, armor, money etc., whatever reason theyâre playing that way for. YOU, the anon on the internet have no business knowing or shitting on how they play. Itâs THEIR game, and THEIR gameplay experience. and I hope OP was able to play their game the way they wanted to without being stymied by the games mechanics.
Can I Play That provides accessibility focused game reviews and news. For Disabled Gamers, By Disabled Gamers.
Can I Play That? is a fantastic resource for fellow disabled folks who want to play video games, as well as non-disabled video game devs who want to make their games more accessible. I highly recommend checking it out!
