THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS ASK I AM ALSO A SLUT FOR FIRST CONTACT AU'S. Not joking I've been begging for someone to ask me for some. For anyone with other recs, don't hesitate to send them in!
The Vulcan Who Fell to Earth (TOS, 58680 words) by CMMA3
After Spock’s ship crash lands on a farm in pre-warp Earth, he is taken in by James Kirk, owner of the farm. Spock is a scientist, one of many sent to study the planet and determine its readiness for First Contact. He takes this as an opportunity to study Terran agricultural methods— but as he and Jim grow closer, can Spock continue to hide his alien nature?
THIS IS SO UNDERRATED I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH DUDE. It's pretty interesting cuz its set in 2015 after some fictional world war three scenario where China won against the US (it doesn't come up that much but I did think that was interesting lol. Ah, the two world powers currently in a tug of war between my country). Believe me, it's good.
Among Deserts and Legends (TOS, 46865 words) by evilwearsaUFO
It is the year 2078, and Earth never witnessed a first contact after Warp was developed. James T. Kirk one of the first Captains in the newly created Star Fleet goes on his first deep-space journey. But in times of such relatively new technology nothing goes right and he is immersed in an entirely new culture.
A Vulcan without Surak, logic, or most modern technologies.
Secrets hide in these desert sands, and soon things will change.
NOW THIS has the best worldbuilding I've seen in fics like these. Loved it.
Undiscovered Terrain (AOS, 32140 words) by battybatzgirl
After an attack on his ship from a Romulan warbird, prince Spock crash lands on a nearby primitive planet, directly into the backyard of one Jim Kirk.
This was so cute. This has a sequel too! This: Per Aspera Ad Astra
Closet Key (AOS, FFNET, 61639 words) by Reigen Doki
In a universe where Vulcan is pre-warp and Jim is still prone to causing trouble, what trouble can a little crash landing cause? How did Jim end up in a ship alone? And what about Spock? Do these two hold the key to each others troubles? Or can they only make things worse? There is some foul language in this story, just so you know.
the fifth kind (TOS, 10483 words) by sunshine_captain
James Kirk is a lonely, unfulfilled farmer. Spock is the alien that lands in his cornfield. When faced with a choice between hitting Spock with a shovel or inviting him in for coffee, Jim picks coffee.
A very soft modern-day AU.
This is so freaking unrealistic but it is also so freaking CUTE which is why this is one of my comfort reads that I pick up whenever I need a break from studying:D.
Enemy Mine (AOS, 14548 words) by spqr
In all the excitement Jim hasn’t actually stopped to think about what he's going to say. So as far as he knows the first words ever spoken by a human to an alien species are: “Uh. Hello?”
There’s a moment of dead air over the radio, and then a proud, inflectionless voice says, “Hello. This is Commander S’chn T’gai Spock, of the Vulcan Federation. To whom am I speaking?”
Plugged In (AOS, 93519 words) by SakuraMinamino
Spock creates a videogame in an attempt to study humans to determine if they are ready for first contact. With the new opportunity to interact with the new species, he joins the game to study them first hand.
Jim catches wind of a strange NPC that hangs out in the IDIC tavern in ShiKahr. Everyone thinks it's defective, but Jim thinks it might be a secret event and talks to him. He's strange, and he's kind of cute in a weird way. Starfleet starts getting wind that the game might be controlled by people not of Earth origin, and they begin to question the creators' motives. Will Jim choose Starfleet, a faction he had sworn his life and loyalty too, or a man he had never even met face to face?
This one was giving The Three Body Problem lmaoooooo. (It's one of my fave book series).
And He Led the Flock Through the Desert (TOS, 28382 words) by USS_Genderprise
Kirk crash-lands on an alien planet, and is found by Spock, a native of said planet.
First published in Legends #10, 2023.
THIS IS REALLY GOOD. Imagine like... a roadtrip style fic (lowkey only) but instead of earth its on vulcan
Something Rich and Strange (AOS, 49383 words) by jouissant
In another universe, captaining a starship is Jim Kirk's first, best destiny. In this one, he's just been laid off from a soulless office job, he's struggling to make ends meet in New York City, and the closest thing he has to a love life is a strange fixation on a Shirley Temple-drinking regular at his new bartending gig. But when he forges a connection with this compelling stranger and begins unraveling the mystery of his father's death, Jim stumbles onto a secret that will change his life forever.
Scandalous Vulcan (AOS, 30039 words) by Manatees_for_Mystrade
Space pirates attack Vulcan ship. The only chance for saving three years old Spock is emergency landing on the Earth. There he meets a young cheerful blond boy.
Almost 20 years later Spock returns to make The first contact with Earth. Earth's media go crazy about aliens. After a few hours, there aren't many who still don't believe in aliens – well, except for Jim Kirk, of course.
In his life, Spock caused a lot of scandals. He became the first inebriated Vulcan. The first, who refused bonding ceremony. And the first Vulcan, who fell in love with a human.
Alien (TOS/AOS, 65152 words) by falsepremise
It is the 23rd century. The United Federation of Planets exists but Vulcan is not a member. In fact, on Vulcan the warp drive has not been invented and first contact has not yet happened. Two intelligent species—the Vulcans and the Romulites—share the planet with some tension. Into this world, Spock is born. Spock’s life changes forever when he meets a man from the stars, an alien…
This fic also has really good world-building, so you should give this one a shot!
an introductory course in coming to terms with the existence of (hot) aliens (AOS, 31535 words) by flipthebits_archive
When Jim begins a new life at a university in San Francisco, he intends to keep his head down and his focus on his accelerated degree plan– but after meeting a strange, standoffish classmate, he’s forced to confront the knowledge that the universe is a bit bigger than he’d previously thought.
Kin-Kur Veh (AOS, 5563 words) by BewareTheIdes15
“Take care, kin-kur veh. You have not yet regained your strength.” The voice is deep and smooth, a faint accent wound through it that turns the vowels round and the glottal stops into sharp shards of breath.
Pure reflex, Jim rolls to the side, not realizing until he gets there that half the muscles in his body feel flayed raw, all the strength sapped out of him with a sudden headrush that makes the pain spike again.
Bare feet pad into his line of sight, pale green, scrupulously clean. There's a small gold ring decorating the second toe of the left foot.
Fucking Vulcans.
The vibes in this one were IMMACULATE.
Stranded on a Strange New World (TOS, 13483 words) by Wind_Jackal
Captain Kirk is unable to evacuate the out of control USS Enterprise, and as a result finds himself injured and stranded on the newly discovered planet Vulcan. Thankfully, he is rescued by a Vulcan man named Spock. But why does he find himself so inexplicably drawn to this stranger? And who is responsible for the string of unlikely coincidences that led him here?
Where the Heart Is (TOS, 29732 words) by Maelstroem
In which Vulcan sends Spock to 1960's Iowa to find out if humanity is ready for first contact. There, he gets a job at a ranch, meets James Kirk and falls in love with him. Knowing that his time on Earth is limited and having reservations about being with a human, Spock battles against his own desires. Cowboy AU.
I hope you enjoy these recs and I apologize for only getting into this now! Have a nice day (or well, evening on my end lmao).
Happy Reading!
