Aliens: 3/10. What if there was one (1) remnant from mass effect adromeda and it took a whole movie to kill it, only to finally get taken out by a bulldozer?

Military: 1/10. Tried so hard to make it look cool, only made it look lame as fuck

Yaoi: 4/10. It was there, but it was between blood brothers so it was really weird

Music: 2/10. Nothing notable 😔

Aliens: 6/10. Interesting design, in retrospect could be a metaphor for data centers, had a UFO that was made out of guns. Could be a 10/10 depending on your feelings about squirting

Military: 8/10. Emphasized camaraderie and saving civilians. Solid propaganda. Retreat, hell!

Yaoi: Automatic 8/10 due to whatever was happening between the LT and the Staff Sergeant

Music: 5/10. Nothing to write home about, but it got the job done

Did the token female soldier survive?: YES

Is Rihanna in this?: 5/10. No, she isn't, but R&B artist Ne-Yo was, so that counts for something

Independence Day Review (3 Beers In. Sleepy)

Aliens: 7/10. Promising design, thought it looked like a mindflayer at first, but tbh not explored very much nor were the aliens shown to be as interesting as the alien's ships were

Military: 5/10. The Military(TM) wasn't as big of an entity here as in other movies of this genre! Certainly a tool of the story, but felt far less like overt propaganda

Yaoi: 9/10. Will Smith's call sign was "Big Daddy"

Music: 8/10. Classic 90s action movie score 🤌

Did the token female soldier survive?: -1/10. There was NO token female solider (this movie came out in 1996)

Is Rihanna in this?: Rihanna was 8 years old when this came out. No.

Battleship (2012) Review (Sober now. Still sleepy)

Aliens: 7/10. Porcupine-man Predator knockoff. Bonus +2 points awarded for the lusciously animated spinning balls of death, though

Military: 10/10. They brought real veterans into the movie to show the youngins how to work the classic battleships. It was fucking iconic. Liam Neeson played the admiral, and he could not do a proper American accent to save his life, but they did also have an important secondary character played by a real life veteran and double amputee, so that makes up for it

Yaoi: 10/10. I shit you not, American/Japanese yaoi at literal Pearl Harbor. You can't make this shit up

Music: 8/10. Great soundtrack, honestly! Hits the right beats. AC/DC would be in this movie

Did the token female soldier survive?: She was Rihanna. Of course she fucking did

Is Rihanna in this?: 100/10. YES. YES THE RIHANNA WAS THERE. She aimed a battleship's gun at an alien's head and said "Mahalo motherfucker 😎"

I watched Iron Lung again tonight in the comfort of my home and my dog must've been watching with me cause as soon as bad things started happening to Simon she started crying. In the scene where he ultimately dies she could not stop crying at me. I am now watching him play the Henry Stickman collection so she can see that A.) He's not dead and B.) He's not in distress.
