I feel like soo many people don't understand the aesthetic potential Severus Snape has. Like this man it's described looking like a giant bat, wearing all black and long flowy capes, and moving like a spider. Speaks in a low, soft voice but it's very sarcastic and quite cruel. He spends most of his time in a dungeon in front of a cauldron, has mind-reading like powers and a fascination for the Dark Arts.

He's literally an old fashioned Disney villain, the Addams Family distant wizard cousin, a goth mad scientist straight up from a Burton movie.

This! Just yesterday I had someone try to argue this with me. How J.K. Rowling felt after basing Snape on her chemistry teacher (who she quite incorrectly thought hated her) thinking he would never see it (he was good friends with her mother, loved the series, and wrote magical beast fanfiction because he — and I have many sources for this — was a mega-nerd, autistic, multi-talented, innately wizard-ish Welshman).

I looked into this guy because I was wondering what he could have possibly done to get Snape, of all characters, based on him. The only thing I could find was that apparently J.K. Rowling took his autistic socializing as “he doesn’t like me” and that this guy was actually a really nice person. Like, unusually so. I went to read up on it again for the sake of this post and had a bunch of “Oh, that’s right; he totally did have a restroom with disabled access installed in the science department for J.K. Rowling’s T.A. mother who was ill” moments, some “Oh, that’s right; he totally was a pillar of his community who went around doing welfare checks on people with violent exes even when he was on his deathbed” moments, some, “Oh yeah, he totally was a feminist who lobbied for women’s rights on a regular basis (my uncle who likes Harry Potter joked that this is why J.K. Rowling didn’t like him)” moments, and some “Oh, yeah; he totally did used to compare his chemistry class to potion making and wizards when kids got bored and sing about it in Welsh with wizard robes on randomly throughout and at the end of the year like a freaking nerd years before Harry Potter was even conceived” moments.

TL;DR: This has been a J.K. Rowling are you fucking kidding me post and also Snape is a feminist by proxy; I don’t make the rules.

📚Here is my list:

The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.

"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.

"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.

"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.

"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.

"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.

"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.

"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.

"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.

Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.

Just adding this. The drawing program I personally use is Medibang Paint, which wasn't mentioned here but is also free.

You need a subscription to use some of the exclusive brushes but it's not that big a deal since it's mostly just specific texture brushes. Everything else is completely free.

Also, you can make your own brushes as well, which is pretty easy and free.

If you can't find a reference you like, you can use Design Doll if you have a PC. It lets you pose and move human models that are customizable. It has some paid features, but the core program is completely free.

Plot: Try as you might, you cant ignore how much you like him; and you cant pass up the opportunity to dance with that old crankypuss. (❄ Yule Ball Fic ❄)

"Here should be good!"

"To do what?"

"Mm... Its better to show you."

"Miss L/N, if you are wasting my time, I assure you, I will be deeply... displeased."

"I know, Sev. Just give me a minute, okay?"

At the potion master's perturbed, sassy raised-eyebrow, you just flash a smile. A sweet one, a kind one; but sharp. "Uncross you arms."

"Why?"

"Well obviously because I want a clear shot at your heart, so I can murder you. In cold blood." You roll your eyes, getting a sigh from him as he actually uncrosses his arms for you, surprising you. Leaving himself slightly less guarded with you. "Oh- thank you." He's looking at you expectantly, now, like... now what?

Without hesitating, you take his icy cold hands and guide them gently onto your waist, before putting your own up on his broad shoulders. Once you're set, you raise your chin up to catch his reaction- which is deeply unamused.

You expected as such.

"... you want to dance?? Here?"

"Well I assumed, you wouldn't want to dance in the great hall- lest you lose that terrible reputation of yours." You explain, shrugging it off.

He looks down at you with an accusatory scowl, disbelieving. "... with... me? ?"

"Oh don't short change yourself, Sev, I know you teach the Slytherins how to do it every tournament year- you must be good!"

"Y/N." Thats not what he meant- and you know it, but you cant help but deflect.

"I mean, obviously sweet Hagrid is the optimal choice, but he's never going to dance with me- is he?? Only got eyes for that Madame Maxime."

"... Y/N." He repeats, seriously. And, oh, his face is really close to yours, now, his breath brushing against your nose, and you just know he's going catch you now- the way you look at him. To deeply, too curiously. He's too close not to notice, and he's too smart not to know what that means. Your eyes flicker from his mouth to his eyes, and slow song starts to play from the other room, and a lop-sided grin slips across your face.

Sighing, you tilt your head to the side, as if you may kiss him, and watch his eyes drop to your lips. "... you know why I wanna dance with you, Severus." You say it at a whisper, even though no one else is around to hear you. "Because I want to. ... Plain and simple."

"You... want to." He sounds uncertain, unsure whether to believe you- or not. His hands pull you in closer by your waist, though, and he straightens up. "Well, then. Fix your posture, and we will."

A happy beam slips across your face, nodding, and he cant help but look so so curiously at you. So confused and half-way amused, and a little tiny bit pleased.

... Maybe he'll see where this goes.
