I have another headcanon request for you! Which Naruto characters do you think would embrace their partner’s submissive masochistic sexual desires? Which ones couldn’t stomach the thought of hurting their partner even for their pleasure? I’m mostly thinking of impact, breath, and primal play (mostly for Kiba), and biting. Character selection is up to whoever inspires you most and feel free to expand on the kink list. Thanks! 💚
a/n: misha you are quickly becoming my favourite person for headcanon requests omg. this is such a different beast to just "what are their kinks?" because you're really asking "who can eroticise consensual harm without psychologically translating it into actual harm?" which is so much juicier and far more character-dependent. couldn't sleep through the heat last night so i did this instead, i hope you have a snack because this is a long one 😌

So I don’t think "would they enjoy hurting their partner?" has a simple relationship with how violent, gentle or even sadistic a character is. Some of the cast could have no natural sadistic streak whatsoever and still learn to love giving a masochistic partner exactly what they ask for because their pleasure becomes the erotic centre of it. Meanwhile, someone who canonically enjoys violence might honestly be a terrible fit if they can't distinguish between pain that has been chosen and pain they simply feel entitled to inflict. So when I was thinking about this I was looking at it less as "who is kinky?" and more as who can actually understand consensual harm as its own language between partners?
🐺 KIBA INUZUKA — you knew exactly what you were doing here 💀
I'm starting with Kiba since you mentioned him specifically, and you definitely knew what you were doing when you mentioned primal play. 😭 Kiba feels almost purpose-built for a partner whose submissive masochism is physical, playful and instinctive rather than ceremonial. His whole canon temperament is exuberant, competitive, sensory and embodied; he tracks by scent, he fights through physical coordination with Akamaru, he responds strongly to challenge and wears his emotion much closer to the surface than most other shinobi. I don't necessarily think he starts out with some elaborate sadistic philosophy about pain, but I think he does discover very quickly that your response to his roughness does something awful to whatever remaining common sense he has.
Primal play is probably his strongest area in the cast for sure; he loves chase, capture, wrestling, pinning, being deliberately provoked before he catches you, the thrill of feeling you struggle because you enjoy being overpowered rather than because either of you is pretending you are genuinely helpless. Biting is also such an obvious fit that pretending otherwise would be a waste of everyone's time, and I can easily see him enjoying being bitten back once he understands the exchange. I think impact play also suits him, particularly something like spanking or anything else hand-based rather than specific equipment or toys, and I think breath play feels possible for him but would be a lot less central than full-body physical overwhelm because his real erotic engine is all about pursuit, movement and response. What really gets him isn't just causing pain, it's the moment you show him that you like him rougher, less polished, more instinctive, and that the qualities he might ordinarily restrain around someone precious are qualities you actively want from him. Kiba is exactly the sort of partner whose brain briefly blue-screens the first time you say “harder”, followed by a catastrophic and permanent increase in confidence once he realises you meant it so. Thoughts and prayers to the furniture.
🔥 MADARA UCHIHA — embraces it so hard you might actually need legal counsel
Yes. No question. He would embrace it with alarming enthusiasm. Madara is one of my clearest yeses because his relationship with pain is already so wrapped up in challenge, physical intensity and the exhilaration of being fully alive. We’re talking about a man who enjoys battle as a full-body experience—impact, danger, blood, resistance, even his own pain when it proves that an opponent has actually reached him. Telling him that pain can be pleasurable for you would not trouble him for even a second, I think it would make immediate sense. I think he’d be even more fascinated by the inversion of an ordinary battlefield response. He strikes you and you move closer; he bites harder and you ask again; he pushes until your body beneath his hands is yielding by choice rather than because he has conquered you.
Impact play would be an enormous yes, as would biting, rough restraint, marking and primal play built around pursuit, wrestling and capture. Breath play is also plausible for him, though his version would come with an acute awareness of the power disparity because Madara is exceptionally comfortable occupying overwhelming control, and I can see him enjoying things like scratching and hair pulling as well. Most importantly, I do not think he would simply tolerate a masochistic partner for their sake. Once he understands that this is something you genuinely wanted, I think he’d come to enjoy the trust of it most of all, the knowledge that someone capable of saying no is deliberately placing their vulnerability in his hands and expecting him to know the difference between surrender and defeat. So, naturally, he would be supremely annoying about how well he knows what you can take.
🪽 KONAN — does not need to enjoy pain to become frighteningly good at giving it
Okay, so I know not everyone cares about the female cast but I really like her for this. Konan is one of my favourite examples of the difference between sadism and compatibility with a masochistic partner. I don’t see natural cruelty as part of her erotic centre, but she is disciplined, observant, composed and profoundly capable of treating another person’s stated desire as real without infantilising them. If you told her that pain is pleasurable to you, she would listen, ask exactly what that means and adjust accordingly.
I think her version of this would be very precise. Controlled impact suits her, as does restraint, sensation play and prolonged anticipation. Let’s be honest, the paper possibilities are hanging over our heads with criminal intent. Biting feels plausible but private, while breath play is the area where I become less convinced because I do not think that would appeal to her equally. What I do think she would excel at is recognising thresholds because Konan is someone who survives through observation and restraint, so she would notice the difference between tension born from pleasure and tension that means something has gone wrong. She might never become a person who thinks I love causing pain, but she could very easily become someone who thinks I love what this chosen sensation does to you, and I love that you trust me enough to let me be the one who gives it to you.
📖 KAKASHI HATAKE — could do it, but it would be psychologically complicated
Kakashi is my sleeper candidate because practically every quality required to handle consensual pain well is already present in him! He has extraordinary physical precision, patience, observation, self-control, and the ability to notice minute changes in your breathing, posture and movement; he would be extremely good at distinguishing performance from genuine distress, especially with a long-term partner whose signals he knows well. I think he also has some of the most complicated personal limits of the whole group. Kakashi has spent his life hurting people professionally, losing people violently and carrying the memory of his own hand passing through someone precious to him.
There would be an enormous difference between impact play, biting, pinning, rough handling or hair pulling and looking down to see his hand around the throat of someone he loves. The former could become deeply pleasurable because your enjoyment gives the action new meaning; the latter might collide with memories and associations he cannot simply negotiate away because you consented. So yes, I think he could embrace a masochistic partner, but he would have boundaries too. The submissive partner is not the only person whose limits count, and Kakashi is exactly the kind of character who might be capable of giving you almost everything you ask for while firmly saying that one particular thing will never happen.
⏳ GAARA — one of my richest “partway” answers
HEAR ME OUT. Gaara is one of the richest middle-ground answers because I genuinely do not think he belongs in a blanket “cannot hurt his partner” category, but I do think you would have to teach his body something that his intellect might understand, which is that wanted pain is not necessarily harm. As an adult, Gaara’s entire identity is built around becoming a protector after a childhood in which his body, power and pain were controlled by other people. He doesn’t just need verbal permission, I think he needs repeated experience proving that your masochism is safe, stable and genuinely yours, and he needs to understand why this does not make him into the thing he spent years trying not to be.
He is emotionally intense enough that I can see him enjoying biting, scratching, private marking, controlled pinning and eventually mild impact, particularly once he learns how strongly you respond and understands that the sensation is chosen and enjoyed. I can even see him discovering that he likes leaving evidence of intimacy precisely because the mark exists due to affection rather than rejection. The fact that you trust him with a vulnerability others might misunderstand would matter enormously. Something like breath play or anything that would generate genuine risk, however, is where I draw the line. A loved one struggling for air beneath his hand is simply too loaded an image for a man whose childhood was shaped by bodily helplessness, sleeplessness and the terror of losing control to a monster inside him. So Gaara’s answer would not be I hate your desires so much as it would be show me why this is safe for you and understand that there are some places I still cannot follow you.
🍥 NARUTO UZUMAKI — tries, fails, looks traumatised by his own handprint
I’m sorry, I truly cannot see it. 😭 He would try. Sweet boy, he would genuinely try. Naruto would never shame a partner for being masochistic, and I actually think his expansive understanding of people would make him more accepting than his reaction suggests. He knows that pain means different things to different people, he understands the importance of being believed about your own inner life and he would try to listen. Unfortunately, I also think his entire emotional architecture is organised around protecting precious people from suffering, which makes deliberately becoming the source of that suffering extremely difficult for him to eroticise.
He could probably handle roughhousing, wrestling, enthusiastic biting, being bitten, accidental marks and perhaps very mild spanking if your delight was so obvious that even he could not misread it. But genuine hard impact? Naruto hits you once, you moan, ask for another and he immediately wants to know whether you have a concussion. Breath play is an emphatic no; this man would rather fistfight another god than voluntarily put someone he loves through the appearance of suffocation and then somehow remain horny about it. The more authentic your pain response looked, the harder it would become for him to continue, because Naruto is built around recognising suffering and reaching towards it. His difficulty is not prudishness and it is not disbelief, he believes you! He just cannot easily teach the part of himself that spent a lifetime trying to save people that your pain can sometimes be something you are freely choosing.
🩸 HIDAN — embraces it completely, but his relationship to pain is far more complicated than “obvious sadist”
You knew I wasn’t going to leave him off this list, come on now. Hidan is the control subject for this entire question because the most canonically sadomasochistic person of the entire cast is also the one who proves most decisively that pain is not one desire. He is arguably the character whose canon psychology most aggressively destabilises the categories of sadist, masochist, dominant, submissive, victim and aggressor. He enjoys torturing people and takes religious pleasure in painful deaths, but his own masochism is highly conditional—he relishes pain when he authors it himself and shares it with a cursed victim, but he reacts normally when an enemy injures him and panics when someone else controls his body. In other words, Hidan already understands at a bodily level that the same sensation can be wanted in one context and despised in another. That makes a submissive masochistic partner uniquely fascinating to him because I want you to hurt me transforms suffering into offering, and this lunatic is, unfortunately for civilisation, a priest. 💀
Impact would be an enormous yes and likely become increasingly ritualised through counting, repeated patterns, positions or specific implements; biting and marking are obvious; fear play would suit his natural appetites with the largest possible warning label imaginable; primal play would be far more antagonistic and violent than Kiba’s sensory, animalistic version; breath play and restraint could expose a fascinating asymmetry in which he loves controlling your body while refusing to surrender control of his own. I also suspect his deepest compatibility would involve some form of reciprocity, because his own ecstasy is rooted in shared suffering rather than pure one-way domination. Most importantly, I actually think Hidan would understand highly specific masochistic boundaries better than people expect, not because he is ethical, but because he knows from inside his own body that this kind of pain, from this source, under these conditions can be ecstatic while another form is unwanted injury. He might be one of the first people to sneer at a vague anything and demand to know what the fuck is that supposed to mean.
The real danger of Hidan is not whether he can comprehend consent; it is whether he respects you enough for your withdrawal of it to outweigh his appetite once the violence has begun, and that is exactly why he belongs here. Kiba enjoys predatory physicality, Madara enjoys pain and challenge, Gaara has to learn that wanted pain is not harm, and Naruto struggles to eroticise pain inflicted on someone he loves. Hidan, on the other hand, already knows that the same sensation can become worship, pleasure, violation or rage depending on who chose it, who caused it, what it means and who remains in control. This annoying bastard has accidentally wandered into sophisticated kink phenomenology wearing no shirt and screaming about his god. 💀
