i always see sensory avoidant autistic people talking about how their favourite foods are all plain carbs but where are the sensory seeking autistics who live on garlic and spicy foods? the ones who will eat a straight lemon and hate buttered noodles.

I think that there’s a kind inaccessibility people don’t talk enough, and it’s the one that hinders people who struggle to read or understand difficult instructions.

Everyone gets the struggles of a broken elevator or missing ramp, but there are some types of inaccessibilities that are much more nuanced.

Maps for example, that you find in stations or even hospitals and other public spaces are difficult even for me to understand, how is someone whose brain can’t process this kind of information supposed to understand that?

We should learn to simplify instructions a little bit.

Only get internet access long enough to make this post. I just got out of the psych ward BUT I’m now heading to Long Term Residential Treatment for a month to 3 months. I won’t have internet access at all, but trust me I’m still writing posts.

If you feel up to it, I would really appreciate if folks sent asks and why they appreciate my blog/ how my posts have made an impact for you/ or anything else positive.

In addition, I’m working on writing a manifesto for a movement I’m tentatively calling MadCripple, with the goal of discussing the intersection of mental illness and physical disability and how the latter impacts access to mental health care. Hopefully by the time I’m back I’ll have it finished.

It was inspired by being denied access to several long term mental health facilities due to being a wheelchair user and an ostomate.

There are some headcanons that I cannot rely on a fandom to support me or even care about with. Those ones are usually the aro and ace ones and mental disabilities that aren't well-known as the ones most spoken of.

So, to remedy this situation, I make everyone in my fics on the aro and/or ace spectrum(s) and (usually) give them a disability. Yk, as a treat. Because I know someone out there wants to see themselves in a character or sees themselves in a character and has nobody to make content about it. Yk?

it's so important that non-disabled people are allowed to be wherever disabled people are when they need to be!

there are disabled people who need to be with a caregiver, or need someone to support them with navigation, or communication, and many more supporting needs.

and even when a disabled person doesn't need support like that, it's important that they have the same access to being able to be with family and friends just like anyone else!

when there's an elevator for wheelchair accessible entrances, my partner goes with me. when i sit in designated wheelchair accessible areas, my partner sits with me!

being disabled shouldn't and doesn't mean you are forced to be separated from caregivers, family, or friends!

my partner helps me with navigation, travel, and communication, but i also just want to be able to be next to them like how anyone else could! i'm not gonna be separated while out of the house just cause i'm in a wheelchair

just because someone has any disorder that makes them feel low to no empathy, that doesn't mean that they can't feel sympathy and/or pity.
