Remember,
You’re not healing to be able to handle trauma, pain, anxiety or depression. You’re used to those. You’re healing to be able to handle joy and to accept happiness back into your life. ✨
I know it’s easy to feel guilty for accepting joy back into your life after you’ve been traumatized. You’ll even feel guilty for your abuser. But don’t let that fool you. You’re worthy of healing.
Writing help please
Ok I’m throwing this out there in case anyone can help me because I know tumblr can be a vast pool of knowledge.
For writing purposes, I’m researching two things:
trauma/PTSD therapy - what sessions can look like, what therapists look for in a trauma patient during sessions, tools to cope with trauma, things that could be discussed, etc.
how different session types are structured - I’m talking individual, group, couples, surprise 4th option, whatever
As one who has not participated in an official therapy session, I want to get this right, so any suggestions, tips, information you can provide for fic purposes will be greatly appreciated.
Anon is turned on for those who want to share without their url being attached.
Thank you in advance to those who help out!
Does anyone else hate the portrayal of therapy in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier? Bucky’s therapist is very passive aggressive and has a strict tone with him the whole time. No sympathy and barely any helpful insights. She even calls him pathetic for not having more friends. The MCU wasted an opportunity to advocate for mental health treatments like DBT and others. If they were going to show such a shit representation of therapy, they should have made it clear that the government only sent him to therapy to keep tabs on his whereabouts. Otherwise- this is just shit representation.
Bucky deserved better his whole life. He definitely deserved better in his healing process.
I have PTSD and I know that therapy is one of the things that has allowed me to keep living. Yes, it’s extremely hard. Yes, you have to find the right therapist for you. Hell, I’ve had to bounce from 3 already and that’s not including introduction sessions with others.
I just- I really wish there was better representation of people’s healing journeys.

When I look at my old photos of me, I don’t recognise me. When I do see me, I see a completely different person. My fashion, my posture, my makeup, my decor in my flat, my voice and well everything.
Don’t get me wrong, I feel more me than I ever feel before. I feel more comfortable than I did before, I felt like before my fashion was limited because in my head, I was still pleasing the people who was in my life. The years gone by that I taken therapy, the more I started to realise those people are not in my life anymore. Yeahh healing still hurts and I still have to deal with those buried emotions; I know they are not around. That voice in my head telling me “I’m worthless, I’m unworthy, I’m unloved” is getting to be a less of a fight. I’m understanding that, that was in the past and I’m starting to recognise that those past feelings are in the past, not in the now. I’m starting to recognise that those people, are not in my life anymore. I still fight those thoughts, but it is coming less and less.
What I Thought PTSD Therapy Would Be: “Now I know you have scars, but the past is the past. People now a days are kind people. You just have to learn to face them and then you’ll realize you’re overexagerating your fears!”
What PTSD Therapy Actually Is: “No! The way those people are treating you is wrong and you deserve far better! When people tell you that, you need to tell them ‘no’! I know it’s hard because you’ve normalized so much stuff, but people are manipulating and abusing you daily and you should not be facing all of this!”
Eight months on a waiting list to be told that I have to do CBT before I can do the therapy I wanted.
Fair enough.
Three weeks into CBT she asked why I'd referred myself for CBT (I didn't!!) as it didn't seem appropriate.
She said she'd refer me for the therapy I'd asked for, and the one she thought was more appropriate.
Three months later I get an appointment with a person who isn't trained to do the therapy I'd asked for/she said I was referred for.
He said he'd refer me after I'd talked with him.
Five weeks later and he says I cannot have the therapy I'd referred myself/asked for initially, because I've been talking to him.
Like??
Okay??
Waste over a year and set things back?
Thanks?
