This started as a funkyfrogbait rant but I’m lowkey just turning it into a rant about Russophobia.
No, people who buy Russian products aren’t Ukrainophobic, I’m sorry but Russian people living in a DICTATORSHIP have the right to have their games be purchased and played? Why are we boycotting people who are actively suffering just to support another group who is suffering more? Is this a competition? Do you have to reach a certain threshold of suffering to be allowed basic human respect?
Boycotting Israel is not the same as boycotting Russia. You can boycott both, but it won’t be in the same way if you actually care about making a change. Israel is an ethnostate, that functions on considering the Jewish people to be of higher status than everyone else, and most of its citizens are taught and believe this. There’s a reason that street interviews of Israel mostly have lines like “I don’t want to get involved” or even “I think the terrorists deserve it.” BEFORE YOU CRY NEO-NAZI, I AM A JEWISH PERSON LIVING IN AMERICA. There’s NOTHING that makes Jewish people lower than everyone, they don’t rule the world, but this goes both ways, because they aren’t better than everyone, and they don’t have a right to ethnic clensing.
Ukrainian people are suffering under Putin’s rule. They’re being bombed and their land is being seized and they’re fighting back as best as they can.
Many Russians don’t support this. PEOPLE PROTESTED! They fought back against the decision because they knew it was immoral! They aren’t all brainwashed in the way that Israeli Jews often are. They know what the government is doing is wrong.
The developers of the game No I’m Not A Human, Trioskaz, while having their own issues, have not really released a statement on their stance, so there is no way to judge their contribution. They shouldn’t be on the list to boycott JUST because of the fact that they pay Russian taxes. Some of those taxes go to infrastructure, community development, funding of public health, etc. Putin may be focusing on Ukraine, but he still has a goddamn country to run, and he’s not as stupid as Trump.
People are being so Russophobic right now it’s actually making me angry. Did nobody study the Red Scare? Did nobody realize that Russian people were left alone to suffer for DECADES because of this sentiment? PEOPLE IN THE USA WERE CONSIDERED CRIMINALS IF THEY WERE ACCUSED OF BEING RUSSIAN! Ukrainians have a bad history too, yes, and my heart goes out to them for the loss they’ve endured. But that doesn’t give you the free pass to be a racist pig. That doesn’t give you the right to treat Russians like demons because you don’t understand how a goddamn boycott should work based on a situation.
TikTok keeps giving me ‘the most disturbing books written’ lists as if I’ve been looking for bullshit torture porn and not tasteful horror. I asked for a lava cake not a turd on a plate.

i think maybe everyone needs to get way more normal about irish art & media and irish people creating or even just existing in art/media cause i don't know how much longer i can see "hozier is a bog dwelling elven fae king and i don't listen to his political lyrics because i can't understand his mysterious forest king accent teehee" before i snap indefinitely. your fetishistic approach to irish art while simultaneously devaluing its messages and themes because you'd rather see it as your romanticised ideal of our culture is BORING. it happened to the banshees of inisherin on the "mental illness site" and maybe if they'd had southern england accents you'd have taken it seriously. it happened to DERRY GIRLS. derry girls. a show explicitly about irish catholicism, the troubles, life in derry in the 90s and female solidarity and you people dressed it up as some twee little mockery of itself. talk and talk about how strange the writing of finnegan's wake is and don't think critically about why james joyce, an irish man in 1939, would write a book in a confusing, dense style, with made up words with strange spellings. could this possibly be a commentary on the way the irish language has become jumbled and obscure? how it's become almost foreign to us? how for a long time it was an oral language and that didn't always translate to paper well? our art is "irish art" but simultaneously not allowed to be important art. it has to exist in that niche to marvel at but not take seriously. irish dance, trad music, celtic knots, claddagh rings, our poetry and literature and murals and paintings and our culture packed away into a neat stereotype. i see it and it irritates me endlessly.
