LIKES TO CHARGE REBLOGS TO CAST
you people aren't CASTING
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.

i think it's finally time, old friend
i made this icon back in 2014, long before i ever had my big break voice acting for undertale. i created it as part of a project i was doing to learn photoshop, where i would take two cartoon characters and put them together. this icon is Flapjack's body with the face of a Bucky Barnes on top.
this icon has been on my blog from 500 followers, up to 130,000 followers. i tried changing it once in 2017, but my newly growing following urged me to keep it, saying they might forget who my blog is if they don't see it. i don't doubt some people will feel that way now too, but with the current tumblr layout, profile pictures aren't nearly as visible as they used to be. that, and the fact that im no longer compelled to keep my icon the same as this blog is now 100% a personal one, have made me feel like it's about time to move on from it.
in its place, i offer you this:
this is a watercolor painting i commissioned on Skeb of how i am now. i like this painting. i like looking at it, and i like that i know it's me. and i want that to be my icon.
thank you again, Flapjack. it was an honor to be you for a while.
trying to create an ebay account to sell smthn and tell me why I can't use my REAL LEGAL LAST NAME because it includes "dick" which ebay considers offensive
BUT THEN IN THEIR MISREPRESENTATION POLICY THEY SAY YOU CAN'T COLLECT MONEY TO A BANK ACCOUNT THAT'S NOT IN YOUR BUSINESS OR LEGAL NAME. BUT MY LEGAL NAME INCLUDES DICK, WHICH YOU CONSIDER OFFENSIVE.
the sanitization of the internet is so fucking stupid we live in the stupidest time

Important rules for the "age verification" era of the internet that we're living in:
1. Do not do age verification.
2. If you have to do age verification, cheat. Do not under any circumstances give them your real ID.
The tool presents users with a 3D model they can then manipulate to, the creator says, bypass Discord's age verification system.
Oh no I dropped my link, what a horrible thing! Sure hope this doesn't get reblogged until it reaches users from the UK and Brazil!
And remember to not make a second account just to test out what works best when verifying your identity
A reminder that we still dont support Age Verification bullshit.
Paywall removed here
Aaand here's the link to the project's Github.

I love this post especially the rat part
going on me feed
what do you mean there are exactly zero rats i. this post
I do often think about how the origin of “he would not fucking say that” was in reference to a post which depicted Cartman SouthPark responding politely when asked for his pronouns
meme phrases are so mobile and versatile and that's really really beautiful but i'm always thinking about the first "she x on my y til i z" being "she ebbin on my neezer til i scrooge" and the first "fork found in kitchen" coming from a tweet about sehun from exo being spotted at a gay bar. like sometimes you just utterly nail it the very first time and no variation of the joke is going to be better.
EXACTLY.

The Mammal and the Reptile is a literary masterpiece.
every AI work tool out there is like "did you know you're wasting up to 90% of your time on pointless busywork that could be automated away? and i look inside and the "busywork" is like. learning how something important works or double checking the reading on the safety valve. AI companies love to say "why would you waste time learning that in the moment when, instead, you could always ask me about it later?" and it's like. the point isn't to "have access to that information", the point is to know it. The AI can only tell me how to fix that air compressor if i can tell it what the problem is, and even then its instructions might not warn me of potential hidden dangers or might not see that i've got my screwdriver on the wrong screw or might not even be telling me the truth. I need to know how the pump works. I need to know which lines lead where. I need to understand the system I am working with. If something goes wrong I need to know how to fix it, because by the time something tells me how to fix it, it might be too late.
someone please add the abigail sims poem chatgpt fucks my wife i am too high to deal with the results that duckduckgo search is giving me to sift through right now.
Fail Safe (1964) never stops being relevant.
Also if you've never seen Fail Safe please go watch it. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen, it remains a personal favourite to this day, and especially if you are of the conviction that old movies tend to be stuffy and boring, this is legitimately one of the most tense, gripping, edge-of-your-seat suspense dramas you will ever watch. Even having seen it a dozen times before i find myself white-knuckling the arm of my couch through certain scenes, and on top of that the direction, cinematography, sound design, and action are all amazing. This movie uses close-ups and the power of silence better then any other I've ever seen. I think about this pair of shots all the damn time:
It also just. Has a lot of relevancy still today, and it's one of the things I recall most frequently when thinking about the efficacy of AI in the modern day. It's not about AI, it's about war, and weapons, and posturing of nations, and the way that secrets and hatred and dehumanization of our enemies and the increasing reliance on systems and automation, not just by machines but by humans told to act under orders and stripped of their agency, lead us into a future that no one is prepared for nor capable of preparing for, with the potential for devastating consequences. And it's a movie where you want to watch the credits all the way through to the end to feel the full impact of what you've just seen.
also +1 for having a character using forearm crutches throughout the movie who isn't a villain or treated as lesser, but instead as a highly respected, thoughtful, and considered leader. the crutches are never commented on, just treated as a totally normal part of his character. better disability rep then a lot of shit today tbh.
Anyway, you can find it for free on the internet archive, here:

Nuke that, and suddenly, folders that took up to a minute to populate and sort do so in a fraction of a second.
please god it would be so funny
UNETHICAL????????????
so they said that it turns out that if you centrifuge ricotta cheese at something like 20,000 RPM for a few minutes, you end up with a solid substance that's delicious but so rich that it feels like it solidifies your arteries instantly. they were working on incorporating it into pastry fillings
my thoughts exactly
Holllyyyy crap the new paid leave law in MN is AMAZING.
I was happy it was there but not frankly paying much attention because I am self employed. So, like, I figured it wouldn't apply to me.
NOT SO! For $300 a YEAR I can buy in to the scheme that will give me 66% of my average weekly income if I get hurt, or if I have to take care of someone. Like for Pookie's top surgery. Or if one of the many aging boomers in my life need help. (People with actual employers have this all paid for by their employer. Like it's mandatory. But I am my employer, so I get to choose. And I am choosing to pay in because this is amazing.)
BUT WAIT!
It can also be for taking care of people I'm not related to, as long as I'm not charging them for care. A law that supports found family! Amazing! Anybody can take care of anybody they care about enough to do this for!!!
It also covers bonding time for new adoptions, bonding time for non-carrying parents, and, not helpful for me but amazing. you can also use it to safely get out of a domestic violence situation!
They did a good job on this one.
Voting does matter.
BASED ON MY AVERAGE WEEKLY INCOME IN MY HIGHEST PAID MONTH????? NOT THE ANNUAL AVERAGE????? WHAT GLORIOUS MAD SORCERY IS THIS?
Holy crap do you know how much I worry about what happens if I can't work for a while? Pookie works to, more than me actually, but largely for our health insurance. We can't come close to covering the bills on just one income.
PS that $300 a year is based on MY income. It's LESS if you make less!
And! And! People who make less than $700 a week get a higher % of their average income! They get 90% instead of 66%. Whereas richer people get 50%, with a cap on how much.
This is so reasonable!
I AS A THERAPIST I CAN CERTIFY THAT SOMEONE NEEDS A LEAVE FOR INTENSIVE MENTAL HEALTH CARE HOLY FUCK I HAVE SOMEONE TO TEXT ABOUT THIS! They can finally get more help without losing their home!!! This is awesome!
I can even sign off on someone needing leave over a stalker or abusive spouse! This rocks!
Ok so if I come back to the USA, I will be coming back to MN. Check.
I want to tell people how this came to be, because understanding that is IMPORTANT.
In 2023, the DFL (the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party - nationally they just get Ds next to their name, but technically the three parties united in the 40s and that's the blue party here (also, yes, that means that friggin Amy Klobuchar is a member of a Labor party)) took over Minnesota's government. The Governor was DFL, and the DFL had the majority in both the state house and state senate (and I think one of those was by one member). And they ran with it.
In addition to passing the law that made this family leave possible, they also passed laws for clean energy mandates, free breakfast and lunch for ALL school children, protection for abortion access, protection for gender therapy access, banning conversion therapy, gun safety laws, tenant protections, free college for low income families, legalizing pot (which was a BFD given that they only legalized purchasing alcohol on Sundays six years prior), and a bunch of other stuff.
But the only reason they could get this done is because they had control of the government - Republicans did not have the numbers to stop them. And if we want to see anything like this implemented on a federal level, then we need Democrats to control the government there too. The reason we cannot have these things as a country is because the people who do not want them vote in every election, and the people who say they do find reasons to stay home.
If you live in the US and are eligible to vote, I am begging you to do so at every opportunity. You can have all the nice things we have in Minnesota! You just need to vote for the people who want to give them to you and convince enough other people to do the same.
I want to add- I attended my local (extremely full) Dem caucus last week and the feelings there were:
FUCK ICE FUCK ICE FUCK ICE
Wow we are getting really good at this
Republicans aren't gonna land even their usual elections here for YEARS and we are gonna get so much done with that power. Good shit, to. Anti-ICE shit of course, but also environmental shit. Reigning in corporations shit. General wellfare shit. And that's because people were showing up in FORCE.
