He grew up in the poorer side Italy, the single child of a single mother who worked hard to support them both. Renato as he was called in this life would admit he was probably the worst person as a child, and the hissy fits at the fact he had no access to his abilities and powers were the worst. He was trapped as a human. He, Lucifer the first fallen angel. Well, at least this was better then being in the Pit... again. But as all things learned, they learned to care. To learn to love his mother. Who looked upon him like a treasure. This, was what he had wished humans were like when they first walked the garden. Then his mother was killed, stabbed. In a way, he wondered if this was the so called Karma for killing Gabriel his favorite brother. He fell into being a hitman, at first as a way to find her killer. Apparently he was very very good. Flames were new though. He was a sun, ha.. he was the light bringer so it fit.
You mentioned something about requirements for harmonization in a previous answer to a Black Sky question. Can I get some explanation for what that is? Or how it works?
Okay, so I get to drag out some headcanon stuff here.
Harmonization is fanon concept but there’s some evidence out there for it. In short it’s a bond between two or more people through Flames. Generally it’s between an ‘Element’ being a Rain, Sun, Mist etc and a Sky. It can happen between other people though, although there’s less evidence for this.
Now in Black Sky, Dying Will Flames/Soulfire is a type of SOUL-MAGIC.
So Harmonization in effect is a type of Soul-bond. Through Flames.
Now for the most part, it’s probably rarer than the khr fandom makes it sound; mostly because people see others get rings, agree to be guardians or something and think of course they’re all bound! Or through sex or something.
Haha, no.
Doesn’t really work like that. Especially not that fast, except on rare occasion.
There’s about three ways for the ‘bond’ to happen and they all require some degree of compatibility.
1. Proximity bonds. These start of the weakest and grow stronger over time as people get to know each other better. Familial bonds fall under this, as in ‘he’s like/is my big brother’ or whatever. Also bonds between co-workers, school friends and even lovers.
Basically what Tsuna has with the majority of his Guardians. KHR takes place over like two years, so that’s plenty of time. Put people in a stressful environment like the Future Arc and it’ll grow stronger much more quickly or deteriorate depending on a person’s actions. Bonds can break and proximity ones are no different.
2. Respectful bonds. Basically something like a fight/some form of conflict like a debate happens, people find out where others stand and it’s based on respect. Probably some of the healthiest bonds, but they’re easily broken if someone loses that respect for the other.
People very assured of their strength and worth form these. This is Hibari and Tsuna. This is the Arcobaleno and Luce. This is Mammon and Xanxus.
3. Instant connection. This is the rarest sort. It’s an instant deep connection, that click, the feeling of a fated-meeting. Yeah, it’s all of those. More to the point, both parties are very aware of each other.
From premonitions of danger to sharing dreams these people are very close from practically first meeting, even if they have no obvious outside connection. Hello Mukuro, you and Tsuna qualify. Also, Xanxus and Squalo.
Now all of this is based on compatibility. Between their souls.
In HP we know that souls can be damaged and warped through various acts e.g. murder, which means there’s a lot more that can affect/effect people’s souls. How they were raised, personality, trauma and more can be reflected in a person’s soul. Even expectations in life.
These can be seen as ‘requirements’ and if a person doesn’t meet them, the bond doesn’t happen. In fact, it can’t. Consider it ‘common ground’ between people. Basically a bond isn’t going to happen without some form of it.
Trying to force a bond just means a lot of spiritual stress which will manifest as physical and mental stress. Same for rejection; it causes physical and mental stress as a reaction to spiritual stress. Rejection is worse because being rejected is rather crushing to self-worth. Like being dumped dumped by your significant other of several years on Valentine’s day through e-mail.
Now for common ground, it could be simple like ‘we both like art’ or some other interest/hobby/passion. It could be more complicated like ‘continued support’ or ‘better than me’. It could be something like ‘respectful of boundaries’ and ‘understanding of place.’
There can be multiple conditions. The more that’s met, the deeper the bond. People may be unaware of these conditions or aware of them. Especially if said condition is traumatic.
They could also be intensely traumatic like ‘parents were murdered’ and ‘I want/got revenge.’ It could also be something like ‘hate/disdain towards parent’ and ‘I killed them.’ Or maybe something like ‘knowing the pain of being unwanted’ or ‘knowing how harsh life could be when you’re nothing.’ Even ‘been tortured/raped/victimized.’
The point is that they’re many and varied. And people are growing and changing throughout their life. Generally speaking people with abusive and neglected pasts have a harder time forming bonds but those they do form are generally deeper as they involve more trust, and an appreciation of said trust.
To summarize: Harmonization happens between Souls/Flames based on compatibility between two people. Why it happens or doesn’t happen depends on the people involved and their circumstances because a person changes due to life experience which is reflected in their Flames/Soul and ability to bond with others.
I got to chapter 254 of Black Sky and I'm not sure what you and Umei mean about Japanese culture and fitting in. With Gokudera,I mean. I'm American, so I was wondering if there's a culture difference there other than Gokudera's cart-before-horse thing that always ticked me off. (I am so happy that someone is pointing out all the 10th gen's flaws btw. People seem to ignore/overlook them, and it's irritating.) Is there a chance you'll explain what I'm missing? Thanks either way. :)
Izzy’s a little buzzed but realized the first iteration was terrible and rambling and involved Izzy speaking of Family Drama so…
America’s culture is All About Individualism. How do you define yourself, how do you look, act. What do you listen to, what do you believe.
Because under all that ‘Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Speech’ is a core of capitalism propaganda. Which has done things like exploited suburbs, destroyed communities and more in order to purchase things like Status. Izzy won’t deconstruct that further while buzzed as it is bound to turn into angry ranting about Trump and how he’s the symbol of everything wrong with capitalism and how the idea of individualism is inherently tied into capitalist profits.
Japan’s culture is not focused on the individual. It’s focused on the family, the community, the region/nation.
It is not the individual’s fault if there is wrong-behavior/wrong-doing, it is the fault of the parents for raising them poorly in the first place. It is the fault of the school for not correcting this behavior. It is the fault of the community for not suspecting that this could happen.
Which sounds a little extreme but is pretty much how things go. Sure the individual is still going to get punished but depending on how severe it is? Your parents could end up losing their jobs as a result. Because they raised a criminal and criminal behavior is first learned at home, so they too must be criminals to have raised one.
So to say that Reputation is extremely important is something of an understatement. Reputation is something that you’d stake your life on, because it actually may do so. Japan sees lots of suicides for such a reason. The pressure to preform well, to succeed and be a credit to your parents, your school and nation is immense. People break.
Now take Gokudera. A rude, belligerent punk who antagonizes other students, flaunts dress-code and has the audacity to ace classes while he’s at it. He’s disruptive and distracting to the class.
Which might have been okay the first week or so. Clearly he’s smart, but he’s also a foreigner so he wouldn’t have had been raised properly. Except Gokudera would brush off their offers of help and attached himself to Tsuna. Who pointedly fails to rein in Gokudera’s behavior for the most part. There is no correction; Gokudera does as he wills, as he thinks Tsuna wills.
Gokudera is not making connections that could be advantageous to his chosen Boss ie his classmates. Instead Gokudera’s behavior is driving them off and likely embedding the social prejudice against foreigners even more deeply. By choosing to not conform -in the least- Gokudera is maintaining independence by sacrificing potential stability and building connections.
Which is not a good thing to do as to the Japanese, promoting the individual to such an extent over family and community is the highest mark of arrogance because it implies that their family and their community is not worth more than what an individual can do.
Okay, Izzy could be somewhat wrong here, but that’s how Izzy reads into what she knows of Japan’s culture. But yes, Gokudera has not made friends in Japan nor has he made many allies in the classroom or beyond.
Which is not the sort of foresight that is needed in a Right-hand man. Especially one that’s supposedly a genius.
Hi! So I was wondering if you could expound more on Wanhope's past? He's one of my favorites from Black Sky, along with Luna, and I wish there was more of him; but I understand he probably wouldn't make a great narrator for a PoV chapter. Thank you in advance! (Even if you don't answer ;)
Wanhope was once a stocky short man with short black hair -if sometimes a little gloomy and with a slight anger problem he had mostly grown out of- guy with his life together; teaching literature at school, a woman he intended to marry and a best friend he had had since he was little that grew up to be a cop. His first choice for best man..,
So Wanhope arranged to get home from school one day and whisk his girlfriend away to ask her to marry him.
Which was why he was so shocked that his girlfriend and best friend were boinking in his bed.
Remember that small anger issue? Yeah, it came back. With Vengeance.
Mist Flames are only second to Storm Flames for activating out of anger. And while Wanhope had always been emotional and sensitive, he hadn’t been truly furious before then.
And Wanhope was Angry and like the Hulk, no one likes him when he’s angry. The air is oppressive, the silence is deafening and your soul is drenched in fear and anticipating dread.
And then freshly unleashed like the most eager of hounds, his Flames chased after an impulsive whim.
The end result of this incident is that officially his girlfriend and he died in that apartment fire, while his best friend is assumed to have offed himself or to have been burned up and buried in the resulting collapse of the building. In reality, Wanhope wandered off to a bus line, took it and rode it for some time and then settled down to brood and angst.
Fuseau who had been passing through on what was a milk-run, found the Mist that was constantly emitting his Flames, got the entire story out of Wanhope and passed on a bit of information; how to control Flames, what they were and what they can do with a bit of warning of what not to do.
Fuseau then when on his merry way all the back to the Varia, where he handed the report to Tyr, who agreed that while Wanhope was interesting he was too new and too emotional to recruit and that would get him killed by the other recruits; best he get some experience first.
And so when Wanhope showed up on the doorstep later, Tyr went, “he followed you home, he’s your problem,” and so Fuseau got the task of bringing Wanhope up to Quality.
Which he did and so the Varia gained Wanhope, who lives up to his name; all in his range tremble at his anger and feel his despair.
Also Izzy is bad at answering in general as Izzy only has so much time in the day and asks are generally below number ten in Izzy’s list of priorities.
Forgive me for a bit of Black Sky stalking again. The world you and Umei have built is just so engaging. Anyway I was wondering about the Weasley family. I think it was mentioned that Bill became head of their *branch* of the family. Does the Weasley's have a main branch somewhere? Arthur had at least 2 brothers in canon according to wiki but those details are more of a framework. And is the whole multiple children thing a recognised family trait? Cheers! (Sneaks away from the ask box)
The Weasleys are a huge family. Devastated by the back-to-back Wizarding War ie Dumbledore’s ex-lover and Dumbledore’s ex-student but even with so many having died, there are still plenty around.
Like Arthur’s dad is likely a younger son of Septimus. Who going by ‘numbers make for excellent names’ scheme is son number seven of his parents.
Considering that until Ginny, there hadn’t been any girl-Weasleys born for Generations… that’s a lot of male cousins of some degree.
Assuming of course, that Septimus was even of the main-line Weasleys. He probably was since he did marry Cedrella Black and so had means, for all that his political views meant his wife was on the outs with her family.
So that’s six sons in front of Septimus for Weasley headship by law of succession. Assuming eh, three children each that’s eighteen in front of any of Septimus’ children who had three children himself that we know of.
And Arthur is probably the youngest of Septimus’ youngest son.
So Bill assuming headship of Arthur’s branch of the family makes sense since he’s probably like the 50th in terms of succession for the Headship of the Weasley family. And the only reason that Bill is only that high is because of all the deaths during the wizarding wars and general magic-accidents wiping out like half of them or not having children in the first place. Like Charlie.
—-
As for multiple children? The Weasleys were known to have large broods; most Wizarding families have multiple children if they can but generally don’t go over three in the traditional ‘heir, spare and one to wed.’ It’s a cultural mindset, mostly. Arthur’s a Department Head; he’s not making chump change but when you consider the expense of a child multiplied… most people decide to just stop at one or two. Not at seven.
The HP books introduced Harry’s peers ie school-age mainly so older and younger siblings were not mentioned because Harry had no friends beyond Hermione, Ron and Ron’s siblings. Most of Harry’s other friends like Luna or not-so close like Susan have at least one dead parent; Neville’s are alive but are likely too damaged to uh, fulfill reproductive functions.
The Slytherins being mostly one or two children is likely more due to ease of inheritance; the eldest getting most is traditional, as is the tendency to want sons to carry on the name. Which is more social pressure than actual ability. Children are expensive. Magic does not change the expense in time, energy and the things they need.

Not sure why it's a new trend among fic readers to assume if the fic has not been posted within the week it's inappropriate to comment on it, like the fic has to be hot out of the oven to give feedback for.
I got a comment on a fic that is less than a year old and it was mostly an apology for being a comment on an "old fic" and how late they were in commenting.
Just comment on the fic. Doesn't matter how old it is.
Fandom is not social media.
Fandom is not trends.
Fandom is a cross between a library and having a slumber party with your friends.
"Old" means nothing to fic.
feel free to try and leave.
Been sitting on these for a solid month now so I figured it’s time to post em! AU in which an aging and frail Grace gets his consciousness transfered to an eridian body to extend his life :D
