We all remember the thigh gap trend that swept the Internet and proved incompatible with most women's bodies. Now, women are completing the A4 Waist Challenge.
First of all, I am by no means shaming any woman who has a naturally small waist, but I wan’t it to be known that this for majority of women is unrealistic to ever achieve because of how your body is built, is dangerous, and a poor representation of health and beauty.Â
Just eat you a slice a pizza, be happy, and tell yourself you’re as pretty as that piece of pepperoni.Â
RESOLUTIONS TO REALITY
Happy 2016, everyone! The year usually kicks off with people making resolutions. There’s always a lot of “New Year, New Me” posts and telling yourself what you’re going to do differently this year. What’s one of the most common trending themes? Diet. Exercise. Weight loss. Getting Healthier.Â
From someone who has constantly struggled with weight issues, here are some of my personal tips to help you turn those RESOLUTIONS TO REALITY:
1. Make specific, measurable, and most importantly REALISTIC goals.Â
Don’t say I’m going to exercise more and eat healthier. Say I am going to be active 30 minutes a day 3 times a week. I’m going to eat more protein, at least two servings of vegetables a day, and I am going to have less than 30 grams of sugar a day.Â
2. If you’re striving for weight loss, accept slow progress as the most beneficial way to lose weight.Â
Healthy weight loss rate for the average person (depending on where you start, you can easily drop more weight quicker than others) is 1-2 pounds a week. This may seem like a lot of weeks if you're trying to lose a lot of weight. However, it’s scientifically proven that if you lose weight a slow, consistent rate, you’re more likely to not gain it all back.Â
3. Make your goals more than just about a number on a scale. Â
I personally use a scale every now and again just to keep myself in check when I know I am falling off the wagon as a wake up call. However, realize there are more ways than just a scale to track progress and success. Be open to accepting other wins: measure inches, use the fit of your clothes, how you feel in general, acknowledge and track progress of your physical activity -- having more energy, running faster, farther, doing more reps, being able to do a push up if you haven’t before, not getting winded going up stairs.Â
4. Resolutions about health are more than just diet and exercise.
Having a healthy mind is just as important. Take time for you. Sleep enough hours. Listen to your favorite band. Dance your ass off at the club one night. Meditate. Have a picnic on the water. Paint a portrait. Whatever it is that makes you happy to escape and clear your mind, that’s just as important as food and fitness.Â
5. Fight the winter blues with H20.
January kicks off and for a lot of people, the weather can be a factor. It get’s cold, it’s hard to get outside, we get lazy after a couple weeks of trying to tackle our resolutions. How can you keep your body going? Drink water! Since we aren’t sweating it out in the heat, we tend to drink less water and not get any sun (vitamin d). This is one reason we get sick in the winter. What happens when we get sick? We can't workout or be active. So stay just as hydrated in the winter months and take a vitamin D supplement if you are missing out on natural sun rays. This will do wonders. Fight dry skin, keep toxins out of your body, drinking water keeps your water weight down. Â
6. Don't look at it as work or a challenge. Build habits.Â
I guess a workout wouldn’t have the word “work” in it if it was easy. BUT IT CAN BE! Find activities you enjoy doing that doesn’t feel like a “workout”. Grab a group of friends and join a co-ed softball team. You make friends, get active, and it doesn’t feel like work. Love shopping? Park at the opposite end of the mall and walk to your favorite stores, use the stairs. Love the water? Learn to wakeboard or surf. Enjoy traveling? schedule a road trip once a month to a park or national park where people go hiking or biking.Â
7. Start small.Â
Why do a lot of people quit? Because they overwhelm themselves. They cut out a ton of stuff in their diet. Try hitting the gym every day for two weeks. They exhaust themselves and they quit. Baby steps. Like I said before, be realistic and set measurable goals: get active 30 minutes a day 3 days a week. Do it for 3-4 weeks then say 30 minutes 5 times a week. Do it for a few more weeks. Add a 15 minute walk on your lunch break. Or week one add more vegetables and drink one less soda a day. Then two weeks later say I am only going to have a soda twice a week and I am going to eat out only once a week.Â
Hope everyone has had an amazing start to 2016 and can’t wait to see everyones resolutions turn to REALITY!Â
Just wanted to give my followers an update:
For the past 3 months i have been MIA.Â
I started a new job which isn’t a 9-5 so getting a “normal” schedule down has been difficult. I have been dealing with a lot of health issues (bronchitis, sinus infections, torn rib muscles) and my grandma passed away.Â
I am going to do my best to start going through my messages of questions (my email stopped sending me notifications for some reason) and I am going to do my best to try and get this thing active again. Thanks for continuing to follow me and your encouraging words.Â

Have BIG goals but start SMALL. Some people might disagree with me on this. Sure, it's great to walk into a gym and feel like superman on day 1. Then reality sets in on day 2 and you can't move for a week so you lose motivation. Don't spend hours on end in the gym in the beginning and don't flip your diet cold turkey. Make small, effective changes daily to build habits. Going hard from the beginning usually results in quitting your trips to the gym or binging because you send your body into shock. Build habits. Habits don't form in a day. So take full advantage of the process. Time is your friend. #igfitness #igweightloss #fatloss #weightloss #gym #fitfam #gymfam #workingout #losingweight #weightlossjourney #diet #exercise #fitspo #fitblr #fitchicks #transformation #motivation #inspiration #fitspiration #training #healthy #healthyliving #gainz #muscles #weightlifting #bodybuilding #squats #cardio
How do I lose weight and get fit? Healthy way! :)
You need to start being active and eat real, nutritious food to fuel your body.Â
That means a mixture of cardio and strength training (don’t be afraid of the weights YOU WONT GET BULKY)Â
And that means eliminating processed food from your diet. Most food labeled as “diet” or “low fat” are just marketing gimmicks are usually full of different forms of processed food.Â
Cook your own meals so you know whats going into the food and whats going into your body.Â
That means shopping the perimeter of the store (where you will find all your fruits, veggies, meats, seafood, etc. AKA REAL FOOD).Â
Don’t rely on boxed meals.Â
KNOWLEDGE is your best friend-- google exercises, healthy recipes or clean eating recipes. Follow fitness athletes to see what they eat and take little pieces of their training to apply to your workouts.Â
Drink LOTS of water. Eat “clean” 80-90% of the time. Find activities you love to do so it doesn't feel like a workout.Â
Get a workout partner to keep you motivated and accountable. If you can afford it, get a trainer 1-3 times a week to at least show you exercises, how to use the machines, and they can build a workout/eating plan tailored to your needs.Â
Don’t over eat and don’t under eat. Moderation is key. Nutrition is important. That means NOURISH your body with clean vitamins and minerals that you need to feel good, guild muscle, and shed fat.Â
Learn to read labels. If you can’t pronounce an ingredient you probably shouldn't be eating it. Also learn all the names for sugar. Sugar isn’t a necessary ingredient an anything unless its natural sugar found in something like fruit that isn’t added! That means looks for words like sucralose, glucose, cane syrup, etc. These are all added sugars. Sugar one of the first 5 ingredients on something? Toss it.Â
I know this is generic but I hope it gives you an idea of where to start. If you need more help on something specific let me know.Â
A big part of my personal motivation is knowing that I am inspiring someone else to take that first step or continue their journey to a healthier lifestyle. So today I want you to inspire someone. If that means showing off your progress, showing them a new exercise, posting something nutritious and delicious, or even your favorite quote, inspire someone. If we all took the time to be positive and build each other up could you imagine the goals we could all accomplish? Fail to plan, plan to fail. This week I not only meal prepped but also freezer prepped. I saved 3-4 days worth of meals to keep refrigerate while the rest will go in the freezer and be taken out as needed. --- I'm leaving town for work training for a week and the beauty of having this food in the freezer is when I come back it's already prepped and I don't have to be exhausted and out of meal prepping. --- This week: beef flank steak fajitas with red, yellow, orange bell peppers and onions. Grilled chicken with stirfry veggies Ground turkey with homemade taco seasoning with brown rice and quinoa medley with asparagus spears I also took the bell peppers, onion and mushrooms and diced them to throw in a scramble or omelette every morning. Snacks include quest bars, almonds and fruit (strawberries, raspberries and cherries) #mealprep #mealprepmonday #transformationtuesday #fitfam #gymfam #healthyeating #healthycooking #healthylifestyle #foodporn #foodie #healthyrecipe #progress #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fatloss #weightwatchers #muscle #fitchicks #training #buildingmuscle #losingfat #losingweight #squats #protein #veggies #paleo #naturalfood #natural #healthymeal #igfood
Happy Monday! Let's start today with NO EXCUSES! That means none of this: ➡️I'm just too busy to workout or cook a healthy meal ➡️I'll do it tomorrow ➡️the weather isn't all that great. ➡️I have a bad back/knee/hip/pinky toe You have to make a little effort every day to contribute to the big picture. There will NEVER be a perfect moment to workout with perfect conditions. Injuries? There are modified versions of exercise that are effective to help recovery and build strength. Did you ever think you may have even worse back pain because you have weak core muscles? Done right you can reduce or eliminate the pain you use as an excuse. Make today NO EXCUSES!
