Denim Jacket
c.1850
United States
This jacket would have been worn over a woman’s work dress or blouse, most likely while she labored outdoors. Its construction mimics the fashionable hourglass silhouette of the period, with tucks that cinch at the wrists and natural waistline. Denim is typically thought of as a menswear textile, but it was also common in women’s workwear during the 19th century.

The whole photo is gold but I especially like that the automated feeder is taped to the fucking floor.
Most of the popular art we enjoy is made in an industrial capacity.
Hayao Miyazaki did not draw every frame of Kiki's Delivery Service by himself. He has a whole studio of animators, producers, engineers, and other staff who animated, edited and distributed the movie. The "Ghibli Style" is not just something Miyazaki created out of nowhere, animators and concept artists, (who probably have their own unique styles) are required to make it because they are working for a project. I am sure that many of them enjoyed working on it, but it does not mean that it was not work, it does not mean that they might have their own ideas but they were working for the idea of someone else. Even the process of writing involved many people (you do know it was inspired in a book right?) let alone the process of distributing the movie. This is true for every animated show and movie you enjoy. Rebecca Sugar did not make Steven Universe by herself, Alex Hirsch did not make every episode of Gravity falls. They were very much assembled by many people, sometimes obeying corporate directives and animated in studios overseas. They are art, of course, but art made by industrial labor. Do I even need to post the picture of the Disney animator strike? Animation is an artform that would be completely impossible without industry, in tools and production.
George Lucas also didn't made Star Wars by himself, many of the things that made Star Wars so unique were made by other artists working with him in things that he did not work at. Every TV show has an innumerable number of people working backstage, even the writers who write the best moments often go nearly anonymous. And speaking of writing, which one could consider one of the most personal examples, to publish a book it needs to go through an editor and it needs to go to a publisher. The fact that you have a book at home means that hundreds, thousands of people labored for it, not just the writer.
The myth that art is something that is made by lonely genius inspired by something is just as a myth as the lone genius scientist who discovers something without the help of anyone. This does not make them less art or less enjoyable. It just means that every piece of art we enjoy or otherwise has gone through industrial production processes, often very separate from an original "vision" or "creator", often made by workers who are not working on their own creativity but working for others. This should be discussed, understood, and transformed in many cases. But it does not make them less art.
Just to think about.
the erasure of the rape element in mythological retellings is so heinous it borders on misogyny
it’s the idea that because rape as an act is misogyny, that talking about rape or including it in stories is also misogyny. as if acknowledging that women were denied agency and dignity somehow further denies us agency and dignity. when really, acknowledging the ways women were/are denied agency and dignity affirms that we are entitled to these things. a feminist story isn’t just a story in which no bad things happen to women. bad things do happen to women. pretending they don’t, and especially trying to superimpose that conviction onto the past, just because it isn’t as fun to dwell on, is not a feminist position.
If you live somewhere where it gets darker now, here’s a few reminders:
- You can put up fairy lights at any time and leave them up for as long as you want
- Get out if you can, while there is still light outside
- Make it as cosy for yourself as you can. Dial up the comfort and the cosy, whatever that looks like to you
- Make plans to look forward to
- More people than we sometimes realize are affected, be cosy with your friends in person, call them or have a facetime hang out with tea or a movie. Maybe go for a short walk together or meet up for coffee, so you get out a bit too.
- You have made it through the darkness before, you can do it again. If you think back and remember something that helped you the last time, draw on that again

Florence Welch will literally write albums upon albums of music about how she's always felt ostracised from femininity, that it feels for her like a performance she can't escape, and even give a whole interview about her upcoming album being inspired by how a pregnancy almost killed her and how coming to terms with this made her feel alienated from her body and gender..... And STILL the majority of her mainstream fans will still talk about her work like "omg yes divine feminine womanhood queen of fairy girls uwu". I really hate how so many ppl just don't actually listen to music or care about what it's about. The "fairy-ification" of artists like Florence Welch, Hoizer, Fiona Apple, Mitski, Tamino, Kate Bush, etc, all of whom create music that's rooted in specific social and cultural themes, but the complexity and artistic intention is often totally flattened into !!uwu fairy girlhood in the woods vibes!!! Truly hate this brain switched off vibes based era of music engagement.
You should be able to rot in bed for 2, maybe 3 hours after waking up before it starts affecting what time it is. If I wake up at 8:30 and lie in bed for 2hr it should still be 8:30 when I get up
