Danny and Dan are going on a shopping spree with Vlad's credit card in Gotham, because they want to spend as much money as possible and Vlad is terrified of the city.
This means they have as much time as Dani can buy them by preventing Vlad from calling the bank.
As they're shopping in only the ritziest district, they get stopped by a reporter.
"Mr. Drake-Wayne, Mr. Timothy Drake-Wayne, are you a twin?"
Dan and Danny look at each other.
Look back at the reporter.
"Actually, we're triplets. We keep the ugly one at home." Dan says, completely deadpan.
"O...oh. So which one of you is Mr. Timothy? You all look identical!" The Reporter gushes, flustered at getting the first scoop on the story.
"He's at home," Danny says, a shit eating grin that's a perfect match to Dan's stretching across his face.
Danny and Dan aren't related to this Tim guy at all, but they're still gonna fuck with him.
~~~~~~
Across Gotham, Tim, who just found out that he was actually adopted into the Drake Family, is not amused.
Danny phantom being damians twin and ghost king au.
It had been years since Damian walked the cold halls of the league. In that time threw acceptence from Dick he learned that no, his twin was not a waist of life. That he and his twin had been pitted against each other. That the hatred Damian had held for his twin wasn't healthy and neither was relishing in his death.
Bruce tried not to think about it, about a boy around damians build lying limp on the floor. Nothing made him feel better when he thought about it, so he pushed it to the back of his mind. But his mind was a steal trap, one that baby that was never even named could never escape from.
Talia was the one who threw soon to be danny in the pit. Not out of love (at least that's what she tried to tell herself) but to be rid of him. She thought of it a final chance. A final mission. If her son could find a family that would raise him, after being abandoned in the middle of a random city, then she would permit him to live.
Ras was glad to be rid of the other twin. Why waist resources on such a weak child. Honestly he knew what Talia had done and simply didn't care to correct her. The child was gone and he didn't have to worry about someone bringing him back out of spite. After all his daughter already did that.
And as years passed, and the dust settled the nameless boy seemed to slip threw the cracks into the world of memories.
That is until years later when the envelopes appeared.
An rsvp letter to a coronation. The ghost kings coronation. All in silver and gunmetal and ectoplasm green. But no reason to why the letter had been sent to it's recipients
Damian held it limply in his hands and for a brief moment it felt like home. He couldn't explain it, didn't understand it. In the end he assumed it was the pit stirring inside him calling him to this so called ghost king. He took the letter to his father.
Bruce, also having received a letter was running tests and doing the work to find out what exactly could protect him (and by proxy the world) from ghosts. Having talked to colleagues (who were both thrilled and nervous to hear that there was a new ghost king) he settled on blood blooms. So he and his son readied themselves for a fight may there need to be one. They checked the box and green surrounded them.
Talia didn't know what to think. Ras wanted her to check the box already, but she felt it could be a trap. Yet there was a part of her. A quiet voice inside telling her to do it. Check the box, sign the letter. In the end she gave in. The light surrounded her, a green brighter then the pit ever was.
Ras waited for Talia to check the box first. He wanted to know what would happen. If she would die. After all he could always throw her in the pit. When she didn't die but disappeared he decided, yes he would go to this...coronation. It would be a good time to make an ally after all. The light absorbed him and he disappeared.
Bruce, Damian, Talia and Ras stood in front of what had to be the ghost castle, decorated with garlands and other displays.
When the four made eye contact is when Bruce put two and two together. Whatever this was it had to do with either Damian or...
He didn't get to finish his thought. A girl rushed out of the castle doors holding the finger of a massive knight and pulling him along. The child looked remarkably like him and he wondered if this was the new ghost king.
She curtsied and began to speak until she got a closer look at those before her.
She paled and whispered
"Oh...Oh no. You're not supposed to be here."
But it was too late. The procession had begun and they were pushed in with the crowd.
The boy. He really was a boy and not some big frightening being stood at the throne.
Damian gasped.
Talia froze.
Bruce's eyes narrowed.
Ras backed away a bit.
They had all done their research on how powerful a ghost king was... and there was a boy exactly Damians age. Eyes a little greener, white hair, and barely paler in a dead way.
Each of them knew at once.
Danny look into the crowd. He recognized almost all of them. He had studied well for this after all. Cause even if he didn't exactly want to be king, a king was needed to keep the infinite relms in check.
It was Jazz standing beside him who pointed them out. The four people he didn't want there more then anything.
He had forgotten about them for a time, until the lab accident brang it all back. His bio family.
He knew it must have been a mistake.
He had told Jazz about them after some time. Sobbing in the middle of the night. Asking why neither set of parents loved him.
All characters status as canon were look into with a search engine. I am very sorry if I'm wrong.
Jason todd (dc, cannon)
Reason: it's cannon
Headcanon: loves the ice cube calming method. Freezer is half ice cubes. His siblings laughed and asked if he was having Mr freeze over. He rolled his eyes and laughs it off despite himself. No matter what he says he does love them.
Dick grayson
Reason: its cannon
Headcanon: his clothes need to be Button when he's having a panic attack. His hands shake and he desperately tries to Button up or Zip up his shirt. It often happens in his apartment. He calls a sibling and they squish or release the spider. No one quite understands why.
Tim drake (dc )
Reason: if one bat kid has it they all do
Headcanon: has never seen a good coping mechanism in his life. Frequently breaks down and puts himself back together. Calls himself "the architect of his own mind". Is trying to do better but doesn't think he's bad enough to qualify as ptsd
Damian wayne (dc, implied)
Reason: a violent upbringing and loss of a loved one depending on continuity
Headcanon: his response is a toss up between. Freeze and fight. But both have been weaponized and manipulated by his grandfather. He either goes deathly still to assess the situation, or leaps in as fast as possible. Say what you want but he deserved to be allowed to be a child
Duke Thomas (dc, implied)
Reason: it's implied
Headcanon: still addresses his parents sometimes. Once accidentally called Bruce his dad's name. Part of him wishes he'd stop but part of him is afraid to let them go. On the bright side (opposite of Tim) he is amazing at coping mechanisms. It'll probably gets worse as time goes on but for now he's surviving.
Barbara Gordon (dc, canon)
Reason: it's canon
Headcanon: she is clawing her way forward. She wants recovery like a bear wants free of a trap. She yearns for the day she will be better officially. She knows it won't happen but she still yearns for better days.
Stephanie brown (dc implied)
Reason: girls got the child abuse, giving her child away for their own good combo
Headcanon: she knows it's for the best but sometimes when it's really quiet and she's alone with her thoughts she worries, thoughts running through her mind of what could happen to her child without her protection. Owns the mom guilt. She whispers over and over, it's for the best.
Cassandra Cain (dc, implied)
Reason: she was a weapon first, a daughter second and a child never.
Headcanon: Cassandra doesn't cook. Something about the kitchen knives, sharp yet domestic puts a pit in her stomach. She wonders half idly half disgusted, about herself where the girl stops and the weapon begins. Is her new found kindness and domesticity a lie. Even when Alfred is out Cass doesn't cook and mercifully no one asks her too.
Batman (dc, cannon)
Reason: its cannon
Headcanon: will never get therapy. Has thought about making an ai to be a therapist for exactly two seconds. Thought better of it. Knows exactly how bad it is but doesn't fix it cause it keeps him sharp.
Alfred pennyworth (dc, not canon):
Reason: the man was in the army and lost his good friend and raised the orphan that came out of the scenario
Headcanon: he is an enabler to Bruce's actions and he knows it. He wanted, above all else to shelter the young orphan from the path he walks. From panic attacks and sleeplessness and the thousand yard stare, And he failed. How else could he do anything else but enable after that.
Steve Roger's (marvel, canon)
Reason: it's canon
Headcanon: he makes acquaintance with one of the restaurantours that Tony likes, in order to use their walk in freezer. Everytime he goes in he starts hyperventilating but he won't stop. He wants to be over this. Refuses to feel sorry for himself. He could have been extremely brain damaged or dead. He feels he needs to be grateful.
Bucky Barnes (marvel, canon)
Reason: it's canon
Headcanon: this man spirals constantly but he's like, productive about it. Half his mind might be screaming and the other half is doing a crossword, cutting coupons, or memorizing a recipe. He has a plan to push the screaming out by slowly focusing more and more on his daily tasks. Steve isnt sure it'll work but neither of them know much about healthy coping methods. Their trying to work things out
Tony stark (marvel, canon)
Reason: it's canon
Headcanon: he goes to therapy. He's a atheist but he kneels at the alter of self help books and worksheets that are obviously too dumbed down for him. He desperately clings to deep breathing like a lifeling. The man journals, something a younger him would of laughed at. Of course he burns them afterword with damp lashes and dry cheeks. The problem stems from overuse. Like everything else that has ever made him better he over does it all.
Natasha romanoff (marvel, canon)
Reason:it's canon
Headcanon: she is beyond the horizon of panic attacks. Beyond the hyperventilating and stress responses. She wants to fear, to be fallible, to show weakness. She wants it as much as she is capable of wanting literally anything for herself. She wants deep in the part of herself that can still manage to be selfish to feel human, just a little.
Bruce Banner (marvel, cannon)
Reason:it's canon
Headcanon: everytime he comes to it's the same. His mind is racing or there's blood on his hands or both. He doesn't remember more often then not, it's mercy he thinks. He isn't sure he deserves that mercy though. Scratching that, some days he is sure he doesn't deserve it. It doesn't matter if hulk was kind or cruel. He feels he is a reflection of his father's worst parts.
Hawkeye (marvel, canon)
Reason: it's canon
Headcanon: despite being weaker or maybe because he is weaker then the others, he blames himself. Every cut, every bruise, Every wound, every death, is his fault in his mind. He's talked to his therapist extensively, and some days the burden is lighter and for just a few hours he can breathe easy. His wife doesn't know how deep it lies, hopefully she and the kids will never know. He can't fail anyone else.
Thor (marvel,canon)
Reason: its canon
Headcanon: he thought he would never understand the others and at times he was insensitive, and that eats away at him. The. He started to lose his loved ones, then his planet, and then his self worth. All he has left is his teammates, his friends. Friends he was insensitive too. Them and a planet he failed via Thanos.
Danny Fenton (Danny phantom, bestowed by fandom)
Reason: three reasons, I believe he has it too, even if I didn't I'm not fighting his Fandom, and it likely pisses of butch hartman.
Headcanon: this man would be a absolute disaster if not for jazz, personly I like the idea she pivoted career paths for him. Depending on what you decide is canon (the canon is the fandoms now hartman) he has been terribly wounded by enemies, semi friends, and his parents. He has been broken and battered, but he will not break. He will not bend, he won't become Dan.
The powerpuff girls (the powerpuff girls, implied)
Reason: those girls have been through absolute hell together. Villains have invaded their town and their school and their home. No where was safe. They've also dealt with the actual In universe devil.
Headcanon: as they grow up they become more and more co dependent. As adults they rarely talk to anyone outside themselves.They understand that they are outsiders as much as they are protectors and even their creator doesn't completely understand them. Combine that with the trauma of fighting every other day sense preschool and by the time they are 25 each of them are broken in a heartbreaking, intertwined way.
Zuko (atla, isn't exactly confirmed but we all know)
Reason: his entire upbringing
Headcanon: he knows he needs to trust the avatar, he needs to trust the process, but he can't help but feel he is preparing this boy for mutilation or death, is he really better then his father if he hands such a young boy over to his doom. But no, he needs to trust the process
Katara (atla, I believe the writers said it's canon but I could be wrong)
Reason: this poor girl is living through the survivors guilt she carries and the misogyny of many around her. And she is still mocked for it.
Headcanon: her trauma comes of as an obsession. It's always there, gnawing at her and it never leaves her alone, of course she can't shut up about it. Imagine becoming a healer years after your mother's murder. Imagine the hatred anyone in the thick of mourning would have for themselves... she imagines late at night what would have happened if she had been a little more talented a little younger. For a brief moment she allows herself to be soft enough to daydream, daydreams many have deamed girly and immature. her brother snores from where he lay and she turns her body away from it all.
Coraline Jones (coraline, not canon)
Reason: the other mothers manipulation, the guilt of both her parents kidnapping and her love for the facade the beldam put up.
Headcanon: she refuses to be prey ever again. So she studies, with the cats help, the supernatural. He brings her old tombs and older daggers and by the time she's supposed to head to college she is ready to slip away into the night. She is already stained by the other mother, shaped by whispers of what the other world was, why not take down as many monsters as possible.
(Other monster hunters wish they were monsterhunter!Coraline)
Finn the human/mertins (adventure time, implied)
Reason: 3/4s of the show tbh
Headcanon: Finn the winner always loses when it means his own happiness. He can win all day for anyone else, but when he is on his own or working in self interest, he feels he always loses. He loses in dating to his own stupidity, he loses his bio dad mere minutes after meeting him, hell he loses his own arm.
So slowly ever so slowly he stops. He is a champion who serves others. There's no room for selfishness or mistakes
Loid forger (spy x family, canon)
Reason:it's canon
Headcanon: he can't drink straight from the tap. It's the one thing he can't physically manage. He swears he can taste the contaminated water of his youth. A deep part of him analyzing every aspect of every drop waiting to taste gunpowder or worse. So he uses waterbottles and kettles and filters and it works for him right until he's out with Anya and she says she's thirsty and prances to an old fountain and for a minute something in him breaks. Forcing himself to fish in his pocket he calls out to her, telling her to get a soda from the vending instead.
Yor forger (spyxfamily, canon?)
Reason: became an orphan and a murder in like a few months.
Headcanon: youth is an odd thing to yor forger, her parents died so young and In a way she did too. The girl who held her younger brothers newborn body died that first mission. Sometimes she imagines her own tiny body six foot under. Someone so young and innocent and she didn't even get a proper funeral, instead she crawled through the husk of her own form into the briar, like a wicked cocoon
Anya forger (spyxfamily, implied)
Reason: science related trauma
Headcanon: the scientists always lied to her. Her new parents lie to her, the final straw though was when she thought back, as she did every other month and her memories weren't as crisp as she remembered. What use to keep her sane during her time in expiramentation was now starting to fade away. Slowly she started to doubt herself, what if she wasn't an orphan but was born to the lab. Is she still a person if they built her piece by peice. A new darker thought crept in. Is she still a person with what she knows was done to her.
N (pokemon, not canon)
Reason: neglect and witnessing abuse
Headcanon: one can only hear of or witness so much abuse, see so much blood and wounds before it starts effecting one's self. Years later what he had witnessed still haunts his nightmares. Pleading eyes and bruised bodies haunt his dreams asking how he could manage to sleep with what was being done to them. It only gets worse after his father's betrayal.
Phoenix Wright (ace attorney, decided firmly by fandom)
Reason: most people close to him have tried to harm, maim, or kill him.
Headcanon: the red of one of his partners sleeves fluttered ever so faintly in the room phoenix sat. He was next to a box fan miles despised, doodling on his paperwork. He look up to glance outside when he noticed it. the door being open was normal, while miles' silk shirt hanging of it was not ("it was just too hot, you didn't think about it" he would later say more to himself then to his partner) and something about the way it moved caught between the fans in the living room and kitchen made it look like it was floating, almost like perfect silky red hair. And for a second he felt worse then when he and miles got food poisoning in their second official date. He froze and didn't even notice the tears until they were dripping on his hands. Miles stayed over that night.
Miles Edgeworth (ace attorney, too many signs to be false):
Reason: thought he comited patricide in a elevator. Would likely rather through himself down a up escalator then ever try that again
Headcanon: the whole planning period of "choosing death" he was at odds with himself. He felt horribly guilty for feeling free when Manfred goes to prison. He wondered if he and his old mentor were of the same cloth. He was angry, like a wild animal, restless like a rabid dog. His profession gnawing at him. He loved and hated and admired and feared the courts. This feeling came to a boil quickly and he feared it would boil over and drown him alive. In the end he removed himself. He had no choice.
Characters with uv allergies (that mostly effect skin) because I said so (the most self indulgent thing I've written lol)
(No exact diagnosis is given to make characters more relatable to more people.
Dahlia hawthorne (ace attorney):
Reason:she always has a parasol and seems to have some built up frustration. Has hyperfocased on beauty and manipulation (ie. grasping for control)
Headcanon: she and iris were exposed to sunlight after birth. The physical wounds took all of her mystical abilities to heal and it just kinda never came back. Iris being the smaller never got any but spent the rest of her life feeling guilty over her sisters illness
(Dahlia also definitely milks the issue for all it's worth)
Bruce wayne (dc):
Reason:Gotham is gloomy but he really said let's do most of our actions at night. Also he went to the cinema late in fucking Gotham
Headcanon: it's one of the biggest reasons he blames himself for his parents death. His outings had to happen at night and his parents died for it. He blames himself for not just staying inside
Tim drake (dc):
Reason: was left home alone constantly, almost as if the parents didn't know how to relate to a disabled child.
Headcanon: doesn't think it's a big deal. Like genuinely doesn't get why people are so sympathetic towards him. Joker tried to burn him at dawn and one of his siblings broke his fucking arm. Is such a hoodie lover.
Penguine and most of lounge staff (dc):
Reason: that man has so much money. He could go move somewhere sunny if he wanted. The loungestaff because they will be loyal cause they understand him
Headcanon: was originally trying to make enough money to cure himself of his uv allergy but gave the fuck up after a stint of depression. He doesn't know batman has it and batman politely ignores that penguine has it.
Raven (teen titans):
Reason:obvious hooded figure is obvious
Headcanon:she doesn't hate it the way her mother did. I fact a weakness any weakness from her mom makes her feel more human despite its oddness
Ravens mother (dc):
Reason:hear me out. What else could have pushed her to join a cult and sleep with a demon besides feeling dirty and cursed.
Headcanon: was definitely bullied relentlessly for it. Became a school punching bag. Her old classmates are very lucky Raven is the magic and not her mother
April O'Neil (tmnt 2012):
Reason: we first see her out in The middle of the night and the turtles dont see her midday so whose saying she isn't.
Headcanon: hates being seen as fragile for something she can't control. Would be a fainter if she wasn't so damn stubborn. She loves an aesthetic sun visor
Nina sayers (black swan):
Reason:there's gotta be some sort of trigger to her mothers overprotectiveness
Headcanon: it's one of the reasons she couldn't black swan properly. Her mother fought it so fucking hard that any comfort and calm the night and the dark brang to her was also repressed. (Slept with a nightlight coded)
Ford pines (gravity falls);
Reason:
1) being born with one disability kinda opens pandoras box for you
2)he's a shut in living in a forest area
Headcanon: his intelligence was encouraged by his father cause he "didn't want to take care of the boy for the rest of his damn life."
Lucifer morningstar (hazbin hotel):
Reason: because making a being named morningstar allergic to sunlight sounds about right for the show. Never tries to leave hell.
Headcanon: use to be fine but falling literally changed his biology. This is just another punishment for him. Tried to leave hell once and almost burned to death.
Charlie morningstar (hazbin hotel):
Reason: she's related to her dad
Headcanon: she has a much lighter case. Might (of she's lucky) grow out of it. Her mom isn't allergic and it makes her a lil insecure even though she would never admit it.
Archie (pokemon):
Reason: covered up head to tow and doesn't seem like an outdoors person. Or a people person really.
Headcanon: still craves academic validation as a adult.
sabrina (pokemon, game):
Reason: it's implied she was created in a lab opening the doors to disabilities via human tampering. Covered up head to toe. Not a people person in a (very dangerous) different way then Archie (probably never developed social skills)
Headcanon: it all stems from being created in the lab rather then being born. It's so deeply a part of her that she doesn't even think of curing it.
At least one parasol lady(pokemon)
Reason: statistically there's gotta be at least one background/npc character with a solar allergy in the pokemon world. What other choice would that character have
Headcanon: vague parasol lady is super quiet about her diagnosis. She wears longer stallings then the others and desperately tries to blend in.
Kaguya houraison (touhou):
Reason: shes literally a moon princess. She is also is word of Fandom a shuttin. Probably the reason eiran is so obedient to her.
Headcanon: it's actually a point of pride for her. It's another trait that ties her to her heritage no matter how far away she is. Sure she can be forced away but they literally can't take this from her. It's something she clings to
Eclipsa (svtfoe):
Reason: she empathized with the ostracized and her assigned husband seemed to hate her. (Rip queen you deserved a better ex and a better show. Your shoulders must hurt from carrying svtfoe so long)
Headcanon: she is actually releived meteora doesn't seam to have it. As much as she wouldn't trade the empathy and emotional intelligence she gained from it for anything, she also knows its incredibly painful. Probably has the worst case mewnies ever seen.
Alice liddell (alice madness returns):
Reason: everything is gloomy even in the real world. Like I know she lives in London but still. There's gotta be a sunny day here and there.
Headcanon: because of her other diagnoses no one believes her. She has learned to keep her mouth shut and handle it herself
(Sorry for the vagueness I straight up culturally osmosis this game.)
Celeste (animal crossing):
Reason: We only see her on starry nights. Seems a bit spicy and naive as if shes been just a bit sheltered.
Headcanon: her brother use to be jealous of the special treatment she got (being allowed to sleep during the day.) Until her disorder started to progress and she had to go to a hospital for a while.
Jack(animal crossing):
Reason: it's never confirmed he is actually supernatural. He covers up and runs around at night. He also seems to lack social skills (the trifecta)
Headcanon: was never officially diagnosed. Doesn't seem to understand its a disability. Good for him I guess. His pumpkin head is his disability aid
Eda hawthorne( but only sometimes):
Reason: demons are already supposed to be light sensitive(also demons aren't vampires don't start) but stress raises histamine levels.i just took the given info to its most extreme case
Headcanon: it's why she drinks so much. Even the dusky light of the isles is alot for her. She comes back to not just sore on the inside but with hives on the outside and theres nothing the healers can do for this part of the curse. Luz and king don't mention it. She was always a little allergic but She genuinely thinks it's all the curse.
The twili (twilight princess)
Reason: it's explained away with magic but it's borderline Canon forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think they leave bones meaning at least some of it is biological
Headcanon: they run great big markets at night with food stalls and craftsman. It's a bit odd but bustling and honestly really beautiful.
Inuyashas mom (inuyasha):
Reason: no flashback ever shows her during daylight. Also Inuyashas dad probably had a savior complex
Headcanon: when she met inuyahas dad, he saved her from being beaten for being "cursed" spent alot of her spare time on inside hobbies.
Princess Yue (atla):
Reason: standard moon affiliations
Headcanon: she doesn't feel like she's missing much. Being hot and sweaty is a no thanks. Dresses in layers when forced outside during day
June (atla) :
Reason: her only friend seems to be a animal. Might be because other people fnd her disorder incredibly off-putting.
Headcanon: She acts tough but is actually really lonely. People only approach her when there's something that needs to be done.
Powder/jinx (arcane):
Reason: everyone around powder was very protective of her. So I assigned her to reason why.
Headcanon: shimmer actually made her skin worse. She ignores it for the most part.
Morticia Addams (the Addams family):
Reason: Girl took her diagnoses and fucking ran with it. It is now her entire personality.
Headcanon: the most extensive black silk glove collection on earth. It's really quite impressive. Shes got wrist length and opera length and charcoal and onyx. Is currently looking for one that has web like lace.
Love fortunes witch (kikis delivery service):
Reason:shes only shown for a couple minutes at night. "Love fortunes" sounds more like "let's overcompensate to make sure I'm liked"
"Cool and smug" more like "distance yourself to not get hurt"
Headcanon: is sick and tired of people saying things like "she's so pretty, it's such a shame she's like that." So she became a love witch to shut the catty comments down. Somehow became what she hated most
Vivian (thousand year door):
Reason: probably a biological thing (hush she's not a vampire ) also big hat.
Headcanon: she aestheticizes it to cope. It's why she's so far away mentally. Certified maladaptive daydreamer.
Lady amalthea ( the last unicorn):
Reason: most of the movie takes place at night.( And it makes her even more tragic)
Headcanon: is definitely a fainter. She would go down fast too. Very lucky she didn't go through that. As a unicorn she's fine. Something about being human was not kind to her biology.
Black cat (spiderman):
Reason: a black cat allergic to sunlight seems fun. Also her clothes cover her arms and legs. You rarely rarely rarely see them uncovered.
Headcanon: her dad had solar allergies too. It's why they were so close. It felt like him and her against the world. That's why she went off the rale when he turned himself in. In her mind there's absolutely no one left in her life that can truly relate to her. Love love loves a uv proof Thigh high
Lisa (castlevania):
Reason: hyper empathetic to the ill, and somehow related to the actual count Dracula. Looks real pale and was burned as a witch
Headcanon: was moved around alot as a child for her own safety. Was hidden in a apple basket under a armfull with a blanket on top of her head. Her parents did see her death coming as they were essentially fighting the church
Danny phantom (Danny phantom):
Reason: his molecules got rearranged man. That can mean any disability. The world is world is oyster
Headcanon: it's painful but due to his healing factor it doesn't scar. Its why he got used to the pain of fighting so quick. Only phantom is allergic though both sides of him gets the constant adrenaline flow.
(Tell me if you guys want more disability headcanons and I'll try to follow suggestions depending on how much I know)
AU, where Bruce accidentally gets de-aged (physically and mentally), and the first person he bumps in is... Red Hood.
To Jason's defence, he didn't connect the dots at first. He was just patrolling around his usual turf, thinking of nothing in particular, when he saw a small child in a ridiculously serious suit, sulking around Crime Alley. He looks distraught, and considering that he looks rich, it is no surprise - that is not a place for him. So, he is either lost or something happened, right?
He takes the helmet off, as he usually does when he is dealing with kids (they got scared easily) and carefully approaches a brooding baby.
'Hey, shrimp. Where are your parents at?'
That said shrimp turns around, his big blue eyes looking confused and lost, and Jason thinks he looks awfully familiar.
'I am not shrimp,' he protests instantly, pouting at him. 'And they are somewhere... here. We just left the movie theatre together!'
Jason glances at the abandoned movie theatre, back at the little rich boy with a familiar frown, and it clicks. This is his fucking dad. Suddenly, a kid - but it is fucking Bruce Wayne, for sure.
'Was watching Zorro by any chance?' Jason still asks, just to be sure that he is not going insane.
Bruce - and it must be him - beams at him.
'Yes! This is a great movie, by the way.'
Oh, hell. At least, he didn't witness his parents' death just yet. Jason wasn't sure he would be able to deal with his father being so small, and mourning his mom and dad. He would probably cry himself at some point.
'Hey,' Jason calls out for him slowly, squatting down; God, who would've thought that this little shrimp would become so tall and big in the future. 'Aren't you... You must be Thomas's kid, right?'
Okay, yeah, Jason is going to lie to this kid. Because there is no way he manages just to steal Bruce as a stranger to bring him back home; it is still a kid, even if it is his father. Right?
'You know my dad?' Bruce tilts his head, little fingers tugging on the hem of his jacket; suspicious.
'You could say that,' Jason nods. 'Alfie... I mean, Alfred called me. Asked me to pick up a kid, since Thomas and Martha got an urgent call.'
Fuck his life and stupid life choices. What the hell he was even doing? He looked like a mugger; or like a psycho. But Alfred was his best bet - he could call him, after all; ask, well, support his idiotic made-up story.
'No one calls Alfred Alfie but my dad,' Bruce pouts in a very, very spoiled manner.
'Well... I do. We served together in the army,' he blurts out.
His armour, apparently, is enough a proof for the kid to nod slowly.
'Okay. But you gotta take off your strange mask first,' Bruce folds arms on his chest.
...???
Did this kid just agree for an unknown man to take him home? Like this? Who could've thought that this pouty child would become the most paranoid man alive in the future?
'Uh, why?'
'So I can remember your face and do an identikit, if you turn out to be a bad guy,' Bruce smirks stupidly. 'Duh.'
Jason is going to cry. This kid is so cute.
'Yeah, duh,' Jason huffs, but despite his better judgment takes the domino mask off as well. 'Go on, take your time. My identikit should be the prettiest, shrimp.'
Bruce... gawks at him. His eyes are comically wide now, mouth open, and then, he jumps a little closer to him - oh, God, he is jumping when excited? - putting his hellishly cold hands on Jason's cheeks.
'Woah. You look like dad.'
'Uh,' Jason nods awkwardly, and because he is an idiot, adds a joke: 'We are brothers, actually. Just don't talk much.'
...Apparently, little Bruce can't take jokes. Because he lets out an adorable gasp, and throws himself on Jason as if they knew each other for ages now.
'Uncle? That's so cool. You look like Zorro!'
Damn this little kid, and this stupid family. Damn Joe Chill and the night he killed this kid's parents. Damn it all. Bruce might be an asshole sometimes, but he was so... cute and innocent.
'Thanks, shrimp,' Jason slides a domino mask back on, picks up little Bruce with one arm, and grips a helmet with another. 'Come on, let's go home. Alfred will make your favourite tiramisu.'
'You know my favourites?!'
Jason sniffles.
'Yeah. Yeah, I do, kid.'
If he gets so emotional over this kid, he has no idea how worse Dick is going to be once he finds out.
Dick is in the yard and bam starts ugly crying. Like Jason doesn't even have to explain
Duke is straight up confused. Poor guy has not been here long enough to process this. Does pick up tiny b
Alfred sees tiny Bruce and immediately covers everyone's ass by calling them army friends. He then excuses himself. He never got to say goodbye to the sweet innocent child Bruce was and he may be crying
At this point everything has been explained in the amazingly encrypted group text.
Tim being surprisingly good with kids tells Bruce his parents had to fly out for a buisness meeting, and tiny itsy bitsy Bruce says "it's ok, I'm used to it. You can go home if you wanna." And Tim's heart just breaks
Cass sees him next and he straight up called her the coolest. She is smug, very very smug.
Steph plays babysitter. And decides to never let it go. Bruce will never condescend to her again. She takes pictures. He will never ever live this down.
Barbara waited for a childish wheelchair comment but it never came.
This whole time Damian is incredibly nervous. It's a strange feeling when your dad is the same age you are. He would rather die then admit it but he's worried that young Bruce won't like him. Bruce takes one look and decides he's his cousin.
At some point Jason excuses himself to go smoke and tiny b burst into tears "I don't want you to die uncle Jason, I don't, I don't i" the kid cut off hyperventilating and suddenly Jason felt like a younger more innocent child too. Slowly he set down the cigarettes and excused himself to the bathroom.
Characters with uv allergies (that mostly effect skin) because I said so (the most self indulgent thing I've written lol)
(No exact diagnosis is given to make characters more relatable to more people.
Dahlia hawthorne (ace attorney):
Reason:she always has a parasol and seems to have some built up frustration. Has hyperfocased on beauty and manipulation (ie. grasping for control)
Headcanon: she and iris were exposed to sunlight after birth. The physical wounds took all of her mystical abilities to heal and it just kinda never came back. Iris being the smaller never got any but spent the rest of her life feeling guilty over her sisters illness
(Dahlia also definitely milks the issue for all it's worth)
Bruce wayne (dc):
Reason:Gotham is gloomy but he really said let's do most of our actions at night. Also he went to the cinema late in fucking Gotham
Headcanon: it's one of the biggest reasons he blames himself for his parents death. His outings had to happen at night and his parents died for it. He blames himself for not just staying inside
Tim drake (dc):
Reason: was left home alone constantly, almost as if the parents didn't know how to relate to a disabled child.
Headcanon: doesn't think it's a big deal. Like genuinely doesn't get why people are so sympathetic towards him. Joker tried to burn him at dawn and one of his siblings broke his fucking arm. Is such a hoodie lover.
Penguine and most of lounge staff (dc):
Reason: that man has so much money. He could go move somewhere sunny if he wanted. The loungestaff because they will be loyal cause they understand him
Headcanon: was originally trying to make enough money to cure himself of his uv allergy but gave the fuck up after a stint of depression. He doesn't know batman has it and batman politely ignores that penguine has it.
Raven (teen titans):
Reason:obvious hooded figure is obvious
Headcanon:she doesn't hate it the way her mother did. I fact a weakness any weakness from her mom makes her feel more human despite its oddness
Ravens mother (dc):
Reason:hear me out. What else could have pushed her to join a cult and sleep with a demon besides feeling dirty and cursed.
Headcanon: was definitely bullied relentlessly for it. Became a school punching bag. Her old classmates are very lucky Raven is the magic and not her mother
April O'Neil (tmnt 2012):
Reason: we first see her out in The middle of the night and the turtles dont see her midday so whose saying she isn't.
Headcanon: hates being seen as fragile for something she can't control. Would be a fainter if she wasn't so damn stubborn. She loves an aesthetic sun visor
Nina sayers (black swan):
Reason:there's gotta be some sort of trigger to her mothers overprotectiveness
Headcanon: it's one of the reasons she couldn't black swan properly. Her mother fought it so fucking hard that any comfort and calm the night and the dark brang to her was also repressed. (Slept with a nightlight coded)
Ford pines (gravity falls);
Reason:
1) being born with one disability kinda opens pandoras box for you
2)he's a shut in living in a forest area
Headcanon: his intelligence was encouraged by his father cause he "didn't want to take care of the boy for the rest of his damn life."
Lucifer morningstar (hazbin hotel):
Reason: because making a being named morningstar allergic to sunlight sounds about right for the show. Never tries to leave hell.
Headcanon: use to be fine but falling literally changed his biology. This is just another punishment for him. Tried to leave hell once and almost burned to death.
Charlie morningstar (hazbin hotel):
Reason: she's related to her dad
Headcanon: she has a much lighter case. Might (of she's lucky) grow out of it. Her mom isn't allergic and it makes her a lil insecure even though she would never admit it.
Maxie(pokemon):
Reason: covered up head to tow and doesn't seem like an outdoors person. Or a people person really.
Headcanon: still craves academic validation as a adult.
sabrina (pokemon, game):
Reason: it's implied she was created in a lab opening the doors to disabilities via human tampering. Covered up head to toe. Not a people person in a (very dangerous) different way then Archie (probably never developed social skills)
Headcanon: it all stems from being created in the lab rather then being born. It's so deeply a part of her that she doesn't even think of curing it.
At least one parasol lady(pokemon)
Reason: statistically there's gotta be at least one background/npc character with a solar allergy in the pokemon world. What other choice would that character have
Headcanon: vague parasol lady is super quiet about her diagnosis. She wears longer stallings then the others and desperately tries to blend in.
Kaguya houraison (touhou):
Reason: shes literally a moon princess. She is also is word of Fandom a shuttin. Probably the reason eiran is so obedient to her.
Headcanon: it's actually a point of pride for her. It's another trait that ties her to her heritage no matter how far away she is. Sure she can be forced away but they literally can't take this from her. It's something she clings to
Eclipsa (svtfoe):
Reason: she empathized with the ostracized and her assigned husband seemed to hate her. (Rip queen you deserved a better ex and a better show. Your shoulders must hurt from carrying svtfoe so long)
Headcanon: she is actually releived meteora doesn't seam to have it. As much as she wouldn't trade the empathy and emotional intelligence she gained from it for anything, she also knows its incredibly painful. Probably has the worst case mewnies ever seen.
Alice liddell (alice madness returns):
Reason: everything is gloomy even in the real world. Like I know she lives in London but still. There's gotta be a sunny day here and there.
Headcanon: because of her other diagnoses no one believes her. She has learned to keep her mouth shut and handle it herself
(Sorry for the vagueness I straight up culturally osmosis this game.)
Celeste (animal crossing):
Reason: We only see her on starry nights. Seems a bit spicy and naive as if shes been just a bit sheltered.
Headcanon: her brother use to be jealous of the special treatment she got (being allowed to sleep during the day.) Until her disorder started to progress and she had to go to a hospital for a while.
Jack(animal crossing):
Reason: it's never confirmed he is actually supernatural. He covers up and runs around at night. He also seems to lack social skills (the trifecta)
Headcanon: was never officially diagnosed. Doesn't seem to understand its a disability. Good for him I guess. His pumpkin head is his disability aid
Eda hawthorne( but only sometimes):
Reason: demons are already supposed to be light sensitive(also demons aren't vampires don't start) but stress raises histamine levels.i just took the given info to its most extreme case
Headcanon: it's why she drinks so much. Even the dusky light of the isles is alot for her. She comes back to not just sore on the inside but with hives on the outside and theres nothing the healers can do for this part of the curse. Luz and king don't mention it. She was always a little allergic but She genuinely thinks it's all the curse.
The twili (twilight princess)
Reason: it's explained away with magic but it's borderline Canon forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think they leave bones meaning at least some of it is biological
Headcanon: they run great big markets at night with food stalls and craftsman. It's a bit odd but bustling and honestly really beautiful.
Inuyashas mom (inuyasha):
Reason: no flashback ever shows her during daylight. Also Inuyashas dad probably had a savior complex
Headcanon: when she met inuyahas dad, he saved her from being beaten for being "cursed" spent alot of her spare time on inside hobbies.
Princess Yue (atla):
Reason: standard moon affiliations
Headcanon: she doesn't feel like she's missing much. Being hot and sweaty is a no thanks. Dresses in layers when forced outside during day
June (atla) :
Reason: her only friend seems to be a animal. Might be because other people fnd her disorder incredibly off-putting.
Headcanon: She acts tough but is actually really lonely. People only approach her when there's something that needs to be done.
Powder/jinx (arcane):
Reason: everyone around powder was very protective of her. So I assigned her to reason why.
Headcanon: shimmer actually made her skin worse. She ignores it for the most part.
Morticia Addams (the Addams family):
Reason: Girl took her diagnoses and fucking ran with it. It is now her entire personality.
Headcanon: the most extensive black silk glove collection on earth. It's really quite impressive. Shes got wrist length and opera length and charcoal and onyx. Is currently looking for one that has web like lace.
Love fortunes witch (kikis delivery service):
Reason:shes only shown for a couple minutes at night. "Love fortunes" sounds more like "let's overcompensate to make sure I'm liked"
"Cool and smug" more like "distance yourself to not get hurt"
Headcanon: is sick and tired of people saying things like "she's so pretty, it's such a shame she's like that." So she became a love witch to shut the catty comments down. Somehow became what she hated most
Vivian (thousand year door):
Reason: probably a biological thing (hush she's not a vampire ) also big hat.
Headcanon: she aestheticizes it to cope. It's why she's so far away mentally. Certified maladaptive daydreamer.
Lady amalthea ( the last unicorn):
Reason: most of the movie takes place at night.( And it makes her even more tragic)
Headcanon: is definitely a fainter. She would go down fast too. Very lucky she didn't go through that. As a unicorn she's fine. Something about being human was not kind to her biology.
Black cat (spiderman):
Reason: a black cat allergic to sunlight seems fun. Also her clothes cover her arms and legs. You rarely rarely rarely see them uncovered.
Headcanon: her dad had solar allergies too. It's why they were so close. It felt like him and her against the world. That's why she went off the rale when he turned himself in. In her mind there's absolutely no one left in her life that can truly relate to her. Love love loves a uv proof Thigh high
Lisa (castlevania):
Reason: hyper empathetic to the ill, and somehow related to the actual count Dracula. Looks real pale and was burned as a witch
Headcanon: was moved around alot as a child for her own safety. Was hidden in a apple basket under a armfull with a blanket on top of her head. Her parents did see her death coming as they were essentially fighting the church
Danny phantom (Danny phantom):
Reason: his molecules got rearranged man. That can mean any disability. The world is world is oyster
Headcanon: it's painful but due to his healing factor it doesn't scar. Its why he got used to the pain of fighting so quick. Only phantom is allergic though both sides of him gets the constant adrenaline flow.
(Tell me if you guys want more disability headcanons and I'll try to follow suggestions depending on how much I know)
The city has basically turned into a free for all arena between:
Old mafia families (To capture the Joker for their leaders)
Red Hood
The batfam-1 (To capture the Joker for Jason)
Batman (He, himself is not quite sure what he is trying to do)
A couple of rogues (Ivy, Harley, Mr.Freze, etc.)
Jonh Constantine (This little shit wants to piss hell [and the rest of the supernatural] off even more by getting away)
Deadshot (An easy way out, might even get to hang out with his doughter)
The Church (It's a CRUSADE!)
And finally Jack and Maddie Fenton, who feel like they have to atone for what the have done to their sweet little boy.
Oh, and Jazz is also there to make sure that the Joker stays dead after everyone is done with him.
So the city is in an Almost total state of chaos, vigilanties and mercenaries prowling and jumping between rooftops, mafia families and goons on every street and alleyway. A church mob (complet with crosses, torches and pitchforks on every main road) A trashcan magician popping in and out at random throughout the city. A tall, amazonian like woman with red hair leaning on walls and sings, sighing walking away and then doing it again carring a wicked looking techno pistol. And the Fenton couple in their tank like abomination tearing trough the streets.
(Everybody is making sure not to harm innocents otherwise what's the point of the pardon. Plus god is watching.)
All this while the Joker cowers in fear in a swear deep beneath Gotham, terrorized by the shades of his past victims.
Ao3 Link (but itâs not revealed yet)
Words: 10.1k (hehe whoops)
Rating: Not Rated
Relationships: Peter Parker & Tony Stark, Peter Parker & May Parker, May Parker & Tony Stark
Characters: Peter Parker, Tony Stark, May Parker
**Slight Trigger Warning: mention of an eating disorder accusation but thereâs no actual eating disorder. Attempted kidnapping while on patrol but itâs stopped before it goes anywhere**
Summary:Â He should be used to it by now, this almost constant state of hunger, and he knows he should say something to May.
But he canât.
When his aunt found out about Spider-Man, she - understandably so - wanted to know any and all things about this double life: his powers, how they work, how they affect him, and the like.
So Peter told her everythingâŠexcept for one small, teeny tiny detail.
That he now has a faster metabolism than everyone else.
-
Peter doesnât tell May that he has to eat more than the average person because he knows how tight money is for them. He knows his aunt canât afford it so why say anything? And besides, heâs fine.
Honestly.
No way is this going to come back and bite him in assâŠabsolutely not.
Adding my taglist here but the fic will be under the cut. I hope you enjoy!!!
The bats have so many folks around, even if they aren't always working together. Enough that folks like to joke/write about Danny just kinda showing up acting like he already lives there. He just kinda blends in.
I'd love to see more magic motivated versions of this. Some kind of spell that affects the bat's perceptions of the past and present, making them actually miss that this boy wasn't with their family too long ago. Maybe it changes their understanding like it's a time line shift, maybe it fogs their mind just a tad and makes them glaze past something like it wasn't even there. I like the second if only because I feel like that would make it more likely for the bats to realize a spell was a foot.
Imagining this from Danny's side, hes terrified this whole time of getting found out. He knows how and when he showed up here and maybe even how flimsy whatever magic is in place is. Imagining a Desiree wish that was either very carefully worded or Not so carefully worded. Maybe he placed himself with the Wayne family with the expectation that he would quietly mooch of some rich idiot until he was ready to be on his own. Or maybe he wished himself to be a part of the batclan, taking up a mask and patroling with them as a bird that Doesn't Exist.
Ofc eventually the spell has to be broken, leaving the bats confused worried scared angry probably even amused, and a billion other things. WHY did this teenager decide to adopt himself into the Wayne/bat family? Who the hell is he and where did he come from. Someone call Zatanna, there is some magic Fuckery going on.
Danny; alone, scared, suffering, tired; waits for his parents to go upstairs for the night and finally does the one thing everyone knows not to do in Amity Park. Delirious and exhausted and thoughts too slurred to lawyer his words to extreme specificity -it's fine, no outcome could be worse than this- he wishes. He wishes his family would just accept him for who and what he is.
Green mist and magic wrap around him like a snake. It should feel choking, but really it's nice to be held. Familiar words echo from empty air. They should fill him with dread, but he can only feel relief. Green and black wash across his vision and Danny lets it take him away.
The next thing Danny is cognizant of is a softness beneath him. A quiet beeping keeping perfect time with his slow heart rate beside him. His wounds have been tended to and the screaming agony in his body has been replaced with a dulled ache. There is a slight pinching in the crook of his arm, but otherwise Danny is as comfortable as he could be. This is wrong. He made a Wish. Desiree should have done something to it. Twisted it into something else. Something dangerous. Danny jolts to alertness, trying to put himself in a defensible position in preparation for whatever wicked trick Desiree had pulled.
"Whoa, whoa, easy there, Baby Spooks! You're safe. We've got you." A blurry, black gloved hand reaches for Danny and he can't stop the full body flinch that comes of it. The hand freezes. Danny's eyes flick around, trying to see, to understand. But whatever is being pumped into him via the IV in his arm must be extremely potent to be dulling his pain and keeping his thoughts sluggish.
Finally, his eyes focus, honing in on the hand still outstretched towards him. Too big to be Mom's. To small to be Dad's. Some kind of fabric, not hazmat rubber. With blue fingers not present on any of his parents' suits. He lets his gaze follow the blue, trailing up a lithe but muscular arm to a broad chest where the blue lines become a familiar blue symbol.
"Ni-win?" There's a soft chuckle, somewhere between rue and relief, that snaps Danny's gaze up to Nightwing's unmasked face. Why is Nightwing unmasked? Aren't vigilantes supposed to guard their identities with their lives? Aren't the Bats supposed to be notoriously paranoid and banal about threats to theirs? "Wha-"
"There you are, Danny. Careful now. You took quite a beating last night." Nightwing knows his name. Nightwing is unmasked in front of him, staring at him with such relief and concern and trust. Like he knows Danny. Cares about him. But there's a certain emptiness in the hero's eyes. A way his gaze glazes right over Danny's bandaged injuries. Not questioning. Not even quite acknowledging. Just accepting.
Acceptance.
That's what Danny wished for. Acceptance for who and what he was. Nightwing called him Baby Spooks. So casually. So endearingly. Like he knew what Danny was and was okay with it. Acceptance from... family?
A door opens and Danny can't fight the instinctual way his eyes slide over to it. Holy shit, that's Bruce Wayne. Holy shit that's Bruce Wayne in The Batman suit.
"Good morning, Danny. How you feeling, son?"
Holy shit, Bruce Wayne, Batman, thinks Danny is his son. Desiree made the Bats Danny's family. And made them accept him. By not questioning it. And clearly implanted memories that they know him. But Danny doesn't know them. He knows of the Bats. And tangentially knows a tiny bit about Bruce Wayne because Tuck adored Wayne-tech. But Danny doesn't know these people. And they think they know him. Think they trust him. Enough to reveal their identities. Because they think he's family.
Danny's head is spinning and his breathing stuttering and his heart rate climbing and all he can do is stare, terrified and bewildered, at the unmasked vigilantes in front of him. Holy shit, he's so screwed.
I want more of this so bad. How does danny react? What should he do? Does he fess up immediately or play along?
Can he pretend he has memory loss? (Does he have a head injury to make it believable?) If he asks how he got here, will they have implanted false memories or a suspicious lack of knowledge? Maybe faking amnesia isn't a good idea if asking questions draws attention to the situation.
But he doesn't know them well enough to determine how they'll react to the truth, dammit. Maybe he can just... not speak unless spoken to, and if they ask anything of them, claim he isnt feeling well.
He should probably call tucker, see if his memories were altered and how, and have him look up the waynes to see if recent their history had been altered to accommodate danny's presence. Oh god what if desiree had altered reality so danny had always been part of the wayne family and had never met sam and tucker? Shit. Shit shit shit.
Nightwing is trying to get his attention. A breathing exercise? Oh, danny's panicking. Right.
Danny is, if nothing else, a magnificent bullshitter. He would almost call bullshitting his way into and out of situations to be his greatest strength, if it weren't for the whole saving people thing. He doesn't know these people. Not the way they seem to know and accept him. But that doesn't mean he can't bullshit like he does.
He takes the time of Nightwing leading him through breathing exercises to come up with a plan. Or at least the approximation of a plan.
Things he knows: His parents cut him open last night, so even if he were to leave the Batcave (Batcave!!) he wouldn't have anywhere else safe to go. And he's still badly injured and in need of medical care and time to recover. Care the Waynes seem willing to give, though he doesn't know how much time he has.
He feels a guilty at the idea of taking advantage of the heroes, learning their secrets, pretending to be someone they care about when they don't really know him and as soon as Desiree's magic breaks they'll remember and hate him.
But maybe he could pay them back? Actually that would be perfect. As soon as he's back in fighting condition, he could help protect them while they are out protecting Gotham. He could infuse their computers with ectoplasm so they could hack through any non infused firewalls in existence. He could make and give them protections against being overshadowed. He could spend the rest of his life paying them back.
With his plan, such as it is, in his mind he relaxed back against the medical bed. He saw the relief on Nightwing's face. And on Bruce Wayne's face, and wasn't that a trippy thought. It's ok, he could do this.
"I'm sorry I made y'all worry about me." He said, his words slurring out of him. Oh, whatever drugs he was on made him speak a little more honestly than he thought.
"It's ok, Baby Spooks!" Nightwing said with a smile. Bruce stepped and put a large hand gently on Danny's shoulder. He had to fight down a flinch at the reminder of what his dad had done to him.
"'Wing, was anyone else hurt?" Danny had to ask, he had to make sure that Desiree didn't hurt Gotham's heroes when she placed him with them. He also hoped shortening his hero name would be an acceptable nickname until he learned his real name.
"Nope, we were able to get you out of there in time. You took quite a beating last night." There was a moment of confusion on his face before it slipped away to acceptance. Got it, don't ask questions about the past, they would put it together faster if he did that. "I'm going to head up, Alfred should be down to check on your bandages shortly."
That left Danny alone with Bruce. Bruce Wayne. Batman. THE Batman! Well Bruce had called Danny his son, so he could play of that. He knew how fathers and sons were supposed to act, even if his relationship with his own dad had been so wrong lately. Danny grabbed the hand that was on his shoulder and placed it on his face, leaning into the gentle touch.
"Thanks for saving me dad." Danny whispered. The drugs in his system were dragging him back to sleep, but he briefly saw Bruce's face twist in surprise before softening into a loving expression.
"Of course Danny. We'll always be there for you."
.
Danny learned a lot in the next couple of days. Nightwing's name was actually Dick (And Danny almost popped a stitch trying not to laugh the first time he heard that. Fortunately he could blame the drugs). Tim was Red Robin, Damian was Robin, Duke was Signal, Oracle and Nightwing had history that everyone made fun of, same with Stephanie (Spoiler) and Tim. He knew there was someone named Cass that wasn't in the manor right now that Steph had the hots for and someone named Jason that Bruce had a complicated history with.
After a few days Alfred, the family butler, but obviously so much more, said Danny was healed enough to return to his room in the manor above the Batcave, but he was still on bedrest for another week. He trusted Alfred even though he wanted to get out and start helping protect the Bats to pay back his debt. Instead he snuck into the Cave and infused the Batcomputer with ectoplasm. Tim suddenly found his multiple hacks and searches that he was running finding results far faster than he had expected.
Not being able to help more was killing Danny a little. He already hated owing people debts, and he hated people he cared about being in danger. And despite his best efforts to the contrary he was starting to care for this strange family. He hoped once he was recovered and could help out more directly they would be able to forgive him for using them, though he doubted they would ever forgive him for learning their secret identities, though he promised himself he would take that secret to his grave, if he actually got a grave the next time he died.
If Cass comes back from whatever she had to do for plot reasons (Mission in Hongkong? Ballet thing?), she'd see immediately that Danny doesn't really fit in, how unsure he is with their dynamics like he doesn't actually know any of them, but also the massive guilt he feels, like he thinks this situation is his fault to begin with. Would she be hit with Desiree's magic as well and wonder why, or would she come home to a new kid in their midst drowning in guilt while everyone acts like and thinks he was there for a long time, with her not having been hit with the spell because of distance?
Either way, I think she would see his desperation and that he's not a threat and probably try to get to know him and his side of the story to figure this out. And then just help and reassure him and not say anything until either Danny decides to tell them or the Batfam figure out something is wrong, but still be on Danny's side and help him explain to the Bats when the reveal comes. And the Waynes know that Cass is basically the best to see if there is sth iffy going on, and if she didn't say anything, then he really isn't a threat. After they did their own interrorgating and research, of course. It was still some magic bullshit that gave them a new kid with no one even noticing or questioning, and the Bats are, after all, notoriously allergic to magic. Especially B.
1) Desiree ainât a tech ghost, and she likes discrepancies to make the bats work out the fraud faster. Timâs physical records all reflect a new sibling - his digital records donât, and no matter how he tries, thereâs no evidence he was hacked
(This makes Danny look like a more powerful magical opponent)
(Bonus points if physical records record at least 3 different ways Danny âjoined the familyâ from different time periods, and none of the bats remember the same ones)
2) Dannyâs with the bats because Bruce made a dumbass remark at exactly the same time while Desiree was spinning the globe for Dannyâs new family and said something joking like
âI wish just one of my children would accept a hugâ
Plot twist bitch one new touch starved child coming up, we love a combo deal
ok but if Bruce notices the discrepancies first and somehow figures out that him wishing one of his children would accept a hug was the beginning of this without realizing Danny's end of this, what do you think he'd do? Would he assume that Danny is the wish granting reality warper in this situation. Does he prefer the doctored memories and addition to the family over if one of his children had their personality altered to accept hugs? Does he think that's what happened to Danny and his discomfort is the result of mind alteration counter to his nature, what with how he definitely accepts hugs but that there's something wrong. Does his knowledge of Danny come with the bit about his history of being mind controlled? How much guilt do you think Bruce would be racked with?
So for Bruce to connect these two instances is going to take something pretty significant to keep that joke in his mind around the mystery of Added Child
Therefore:
Bruce makes his wish
Desiree literally drops Danny directly on top of him immediately like 30 seconds later
All the bats ârememberâ Danny likes to scramble around and climb but he canât climb like Dick so this is a super normal occurrence and it becomes an âah yes here he is my cuddly sonâ
This moment is recorded by a single security camera so that when Bruce begins to wonder and goes back looking for the first recorded footage of Danny he watches the whole scene over and cannot deny the impact of his words
For bonus points Desiree does magically doctor years of manor and public footage of Danny with the bats but heâs always just in the background or taking part in the action only doing the Danno face, this is the first case where Dannyâs face moves
Then Bruce gets to deal with:
- the potential consequences his wish might have had on his current children
- why reality decided itâd be easier to manufacture a whole extra child rather than persuade one of his kids to hug him
- temporary sus on if Danny is an evil wish manipulator that is immediately countered by how awkward and scared Danny is and how much he visibly actually doesnât like accepting things they give him and cries when theyâre nice to him
(Is this an Alien Refugee who has wish powers he canât fully control? Did he just desperately need an out but wasnât prepared?
Did he assume Bruce otherwise doesnât care for his kids and wouldnât notice if Danny just added to the family and then avoided them all? Is this the energy Bruce gives off to outsiders!?
Heâs close to the truth with the first two but canât know how much)
- did he accidentally kidnap Danny as a random victim to his wish? Is Danny also a victim?
Depending on how much of his backstory Danny has innocently trauma-dumped, this could get real messy and bad for Bruce, but either way will probably make him much more sympathetic to Dannyâs actual story when it comes out - specifically also because Danny blaming himself for âintentionallyâ making this wish is pretty clearly the exact same hyper-self-criticism Bruce is going through
Heâs a kid, he was exhausted and pushed beyond his limits, and frankly, what did he actually do? He said a word that occasionally activates a ghostâs bad behaviour instincts
And what he actually wished for is gonna give the entire batfam a crisis when they realise how many of their internal conflicts he just said aloud and suddenly this is a Teachable Moment they should all accept and love each other more
Desiree is FURIOUS this is not supposed to be a goddamn Hallmark movie they should not be growing and learning together as a fucking family just hunt Danny already you assholes
Iâd like to point out that, at first, they think Danny was injured while he was in their care. As in, these horrific injuries they patched up like it was normal, they think are from a rogue or maybe a Wayne kidnapping the night before the wish was made.
Once the Bats start to realize things arenât right, they focus on the magic part and how Danny fits into this. Theyâre trying to create a timeline of how their memory and records line up, and are trying to figure out whatâs going on.
It isnât until much later that one of them wonders how Danny got injured if he wasnât with them that night like their memory says he was.
Yâknow what I totally did forget Danny is mortally wounded but I maintain it makes Desireâs drop shipping way funnier so Iâm sticking with it, Danny doesnât need to be conscious for that bit
They assume Danny just hid his injuries and he gets like 18 lectures for climbing around while beat to shit and also not explaining how he got hurt
Danny, hazy from blood loss, transportation, wishing, and generalised confusion (possibly also the good painkillers if we let him have some), accidentally gives an accurate report of how he was injured while in the med bay - only leaving out the words Mom and Dad
The bats have memories that sorta fit it, and it wasnât like it was a huge public spectacle; itâs not surprising thereâs nothing in the media
Danny is benched until heâs fully healed, with a verbal âno matter how fast ghosts healâ which is when he realises they know his secret
And accept him anyway
So Dannyâs actually not taking to the streets of Gotham until long after the whole confusion has been sorted out⊠and just maybe the thing that makes the bats suspicious at first is that they all know different powersets for Danny, and some of them donât even overlap
The funny thing is, Danny has enough powers that if they all think of five, they could very well all be thinking of completely different powers.
And because this family doesn't communcicate, they never ask Danny, and are instead arguing with each other over what his actual powers are. The only ones they can agree on are flight, intagibility, and accelerated healing.
None of them even stop to consider that maybe he has all the powers they're saying.
Oh he has enough and there are enough of the batfam that not all of them even know about the flying and intangibility, 1000% so we can have this argument
Dick: Danny itâs so irresponsible to go climbing when youâre injured! Youâre gonna hurt yourself more when you fall!
Tim: Dick calm the fuck down, he can just catch himself and fly down
Dick: he canât fucking fly Tim heâs a ghost not a Kryptonian!
Duke: yeah but he can just go intangible and fall through the ground instead of going splat
Dick and Tim: what the fuck did you just say
Note - this does need to be after at least a week of them all obliquely referencing the power set each of them thinks he has in ways that accidentally make sense for a totally different power set such as:
Steph: *sighs* I wish heâd be more careful, Danny thinks heâs invulnerable just because heâs half ghostâŠ
Duke: *thinking she means intangibility and letting attacks fall through him* yeahâŠ
Tim: *thinking she means flying from danger* yeahâŠ
Jason: *thinking she means accelerated healing* yeahâŠ
Dick: *thinking she means Existing As A Teenager he is getting old and Brucey* yeahâŠ
Cass: *thinking she means noodle body physics* mmhm.
Alfred: *thinking she means invisibility* indeed
Damian: *thinking she means Literally Dying On Command* ttch. Heâs got a point.
And I mean I could keep going Danny has enough powers to give the whole Batman Inc crew a separate 6 each and cover the bases
For the first moment, with the wish, I think they should still scold him for being reckless while injured.
Even the ones that know he has flight/intangibility/noodle body/accelerated healing. Because the thing is, he didn't do any of that.
He dropped straight onto Bruce like a bag of bricks (well, Lego bricks maybe; boi does not have enough mass) and then passed out. With untreated injuries! Didn't even slap a bandage on himself before crawling around on the ceiling!
Whatever powers various bats knew he had to negate/minimize damage, he didn't use. Clearly he was so injured, his abilities were failing him. So no one brings them up right then. They are much too busy rushing him down to med bay in the Cave and then giving him a thorough reaming for hiding injuries and doing dumb shit while grievously injured.
Depending on who you ask, Danny's been with the Waynes for anywhere from four years to three to what he knows is the truth. Two months.
It's a delicate question, really, so Danny tries to avoid it when he can, along with anything relating to his past with and without them. Best to keep them all in the dark for a little longerâjust until he can say he's repaid some of the help they've given him.
Deep down, he knows it won't ever be enough.
But he's doing well! He's pretty much healed now, aside from the odd twinge whenever he stretches himself and his powers, and while he feels so incredibly guilty over this whole situation... It was for the best.Â
He can'tâhe won'târegret it.
That's what he thought, anyway, until Bruce Wayne had come to sit on his bed one morning, eyebrows drawn in a concerned, confused, look.
"Danny..." he says, reaching his hand over as if he's going to lay it on Danny's knee before pulling it back with a breath. "Danny, we need to talk."
Well. Shit.
Look, Danny's under no illusions here, he's been living the good life. Heâs been coasting and it's been more than good for him. Resting has done more than heal his wounds and honestly, despite the lies, he feels... Happy, here.
That happiness plummets in his stomach quicker than a stone sinking to the bottom of a lake.
âB?â His voice sounds tiny in the open space of his bedroom, far bigger than any room the Fentons had. It had been weird to get used to, at first. It didnât take long for it to feel like home.
âDanny⊠Do you remember when you came here?â
There it is. The question heâs been trying so hard not to ask everyone, only now flipped on its head and pointing back at him.Â
He doesnât know how to answer it, so he doesnât.
âWhat do you mean?â
Bruce sighs, his shoulders deflating. If Danny strains his ears, he can hear the rest of the family outside, the shuffling of their feet muddling with their dissonant whispers.
âIâm sorry, Danny, Iâm so sorry, butâŠâ
Dannyâs heart stops.
See, thereâs always a catch with Desireeâs wishes. They always come toppling down, one way or another.
He should have expected this, really, shouldnât he? Theyâre the worldâs greatest detectives, of course they would figure it out! It was only a matter of time. He just wishesâno, he had hopedâheâd be able to tell them first.
Bruce takes a deep breath and everything goes quiet. Dannyâs chest feels like itâs going to explode. What are they going to do to him?
âDanny, I donât think youâre real.â
Wait, what?
âWhat?â Danny asks, fingers clenching and unclenching in a futile effort to get them to stop shaking. âYou donât think Iâm real?â
Is that⊠is this better or worse than realising Dannyâs invaded their lives? That Dannyâs infiltrated their minds?
âIâm sorry, that probably wasnât the best way to phrase it,â Bruce says, looking away. He keeps his hands folded together in front of him. âWhat I meant to say is, I donât think you existed before you fell into my lap two months ago.â
Is that any better? Marginally, Danny supposes. To them, he may as well not have existed until two months ago.
Danny doesnât say anythingâbecause really, what can he say to that?âand Bruce, who is back to watching him carefully, takes it as permission to carry on.
âI also believe that itâs my fault youâre here now.â
Okay, so, in hindsight, this is where Danny should have said something. Right now. If he comes clean, they might still like him. Thereâs still a chance thatâif he just stopped lying to them right this secondâthey might still want him when this is over.Â
But when he opens his mouth, nothing comes out.Â
Thereâs a lump in his throat that hurts everytime he tries to swallow around it and his eyes burn and he canât say anything because saying something means that this is all going to end, butâbut⊠but itâs all going to end anyway, isnât it?
âThereâs a lot of evidence.â Bruce continues, looking back down at his hands. âWe all have different memories regarding your first appearance, or how you were adopted, and why you were injured that night. Some things are the same, like how any memory of you is⊠distorted, somehow. Faded, barely there. As if itâs not there at all. Alfred had to make you a new room!â
âW-whatâŠâ Dannyâs voice breaks as he desperately tries to think of how to salvage this situation. âWhat are you saying?â
âMore damningly, thereâs no security footage of you in the manor at all, not until the last two months when you fell right into my lap.â
Here, Bruce pauses, and Danny has to scramble to grab his hand and hold on. Bruce looks up at him, finally, and Dannyâs startled to see red rimming his eyes.
âDanny, just moments before that, I had wished to have a child who would return my hugs.â Bruce offers him a small smile even as Dannyâs heart swells into a painful lump in his chest. âI donât know how it happened, or why it came true, but⊠Iâm sorry, Danny.â
âBruceââ
âItâs my fault. I couldnât go on with the idea that all of this was because of my selfish wish now that youâre a fully realised person. You deserve autonomy, you deserve the choice.â
âBruce, pleaseââ
âYou deserve to know the truth so you can decide what to do, I know thatââ
âListen to me, Bruceââ
âNo, Danny, I know that you believe youâre part of this familyâand you areâbut you also need to know what happened, so you canââ
âIt was my wish, Bruce!â
Finally, Bruce stops, and looks up at Danny.
âIt was⊠Bruce, it was my wish,â Danny confesses, his words strangled by his heart pounding in his throat. His lungs burn as he breathes in far too fast, short, sharp and uneven. âI mean, it was my wish that caused it. DesireeâI was⊠I had to, becauseâBruce, if I hadnât done it, if I hadnât wished for it, they wouldâthey were going toâBruce, pleaseâŠâ
Danny scrambles forward in the bed, his legs tangling in the covers, to get to Bruce. Heâs going to miss this, he realises with a sob as he all but falls into his arms, heâs going to miss feeling safe in Bruceâs hugs. Heâll miss the happiness, the trust, the warmth, that security brings.
âShh, Danny, itâs okay,â Bruce whispers as he combs his fingers through Dannyâs hair, just like his mom used to do before sheâbefore⊠It feels nice. It feels really nice. âCan you tell me what you mean?â
Danny takes in a deep, shuddering breath, and Bruce presses his lips against his forehead. Immediately, Danny softens, his core soothing in his chest, and he takes a moment to just breathe.
âI was real. Before the wish, I was real. I⊠I lived in the midwest, with my mom, my dad, and my sister. We were happy, mostly.â Danny presses his face tight against Bruceâs chest and he tries to keep the wobble out of his voice. âAnd then I died and I became Phantom and everything went to shit.â
âYou were a vigilante, with your⊠previous family, too?â
Bruce doesnât stop stroking his hair and Danny takes a moment to just enjoy it. He tries not to think about how itâll be the last time.
Danny hums an affirmative and lets it sit there, for a second, as he basks in the warmth before it inevitably ends.
âMy parents were⊠are⊠ghost hunters.â
Bruce stops.
Gently, he peels Danny off of him, and tries to look him in the eyes, but Danny scoots back and away to the other side of the bed. The bedspread is awash with stars, full of constellations. Dick got it for him when they realised he hadnât anything of his own.
âDanny, what do you mean?â
âThey hate ghosts. Call them evil, unsentient, no better than animals. They⊠Theyâre scientists, too. They study ecto-biology andââ
Danny hears a gasp from behind the door and he wraps his arms around his stomach. His wounds have closed now. Heâs fine. Heâs fine, heâs fine, heâs fine.
âWhen I⊠When I told themâI had to tell them, you know? The secret, it, it was eating me alive, they had to know, I had to let them know, they needed to know, right? Bruce, they had to knowâI had to know, I had to tell them, because I knew they would love me. I was their son and they loved me, right? They love me, Bruce, theyâtheyâBruce, they loved me, Iâm sure theyââ
âItâs okay, Danny, itâs okay, come here,â Bruce says, holding his arms out for Danny to crawl into. Dannyâs strong, but heâs not strong enough to resist his dad asking for a hug, not like this.
Bruceâs hands tangle in his hair again and he shivers as he relaxes.
âThereâs a ghost in the Zone called Desiree.â Danny explains as soon as heâs settled. âShe grants wishes. Everyone knows not to wish for things, now. They come true, but never how you expect them to. Always wrong. Always twisted.â
Bruce stops stroking Dannyâs hair.
âYou wished for this?â He asks, voice carefully devoid of any emotion.
âI wishedâŠâ Danny sits up to look at Bruce, wanting him to see, to believe him when he says it was the only way. âI was so desperate, Bruce. I had to do something and I know I shouldnât have, but⊠I just wanted them to love me. I didnât want to be on that table anymore. It hurt so much, Bruce, I had to, I had to wish.â
âDannyâŠâ Bruce is staring at him with wide eyes, horror clear on his face. His gaze drifts down to Dannyâs stomach, no doubt remembering his injuries and whatever fake memory Desiree conjured up to explain them.
âI wished that my family would accept me for who I am. I think,â Danny sniffs, pushing the heels of his palms into his eyes to try and stem the tears, âI think you wished at the exact same time and it crossed Desireeâs wires up and she sent me to you instead of making my mom and dad actuallyâactually love me.â
Danny chuckles humourlessly, finally realising the main reason she probably sent him away. âIt also probably helps that weâre hundreds of miles away from Amity, so Iâm not there to ruin her fun.â
Bruce doesnât join in his laugh. Doesnât even crack a smile. He just sits there, perched on the edge of his bed, with his face creased in that sorrowful way it does when heâs down in the Batcave and thinking about a particularly tough case with too many victims.
Dannyâs breath hitches in his throat and he forces himself to scoot back a bit, to let Bruce have some space. He probably doesnât want to be near Danny too much right now, not after finding out that Dannyâs been lying to them all this time.
âIâm sorry, Bruce,â Danny whispers, âI know it was wrong. I should have told you straight away, but⊠But I didnât want you to hate me. I told myself that as soon as I was better, I would repay everything you did for meâand Iâve tried! Itâs not enough, I know itâs not, but I-I infused the Bat-computer with ectoplasm so itâs way more intuitive now! And I made all those ecto-weapons for you, just in case you ever had to fight a ghost! And, and, and, I havenât done it yet, but I was planning on updating the wards around the manor becauseâwhile theyâre goodâtheyâre not perfect and thereâs some glaring holes that ghosts can exploit and it wasnât like I was just going to leave them like that, I was going to fix it, I just donât have all the strength for it yet andââ
âDanny,â Bruce says, cutting through Dannyâs rambling. He places a gentle hand over Dannyâs trembling one. âDanny, itâs okay.â
âWhat?â
âItâs okay.â Bruce repeats, a small, sad smile on his face. âIâm glad we found out what happened, and Iâm so, so sorry that you went through that, but itâs okay. Youâre here with us now, youââ
âNo! No, Bruce, arenât you listening? None of this is real, itâs my fault thatââ
âDanny,â Bruce interrupts, taking Dannyâs hand in his own now and smooths his skin in calming circles, âlisten. The reason I wanted you to know about my wish was so that you could have the choice about whether or not you wanted to be here. Now that I know the truth, Iâve made my choice, too. Youâre a part of this family, Danny, no matter how you came to be here. These past two months, Iââ
âNo!â Danny snatches his hand back, not entirely sure what he's doing or why heâs doing it. Isnât this what he wanted? Why is his chest about to cave in when finally, finally, Bruce knows the truth and still wants him? Still accepts him, still lovesâthatâs it.Â
A flash of ice lights down his spine as he realises whatâs wrong.
"I promise, Bruce.â Danny says, eyes wide and voice trembling. âI'm going find Desiree and have her reverse the wish. I'll set everything back to the way it was. It'll be okay. I'm sorry."
For a moment, Bruce looks confused. He opens his mouth and takes in a sharp breath as if heâs ready to argue his point, but stops, nods briefly, and closes his eyes. Does this mean he understands, too?
Theyâre the Bats and the Birds. Gothamâs vigilantes and respected members of the Justice League. The greatest minds in the world. Thereâs no way he doesnât understand that this has to happen. It needs to be done.Â
They can't have something affecting their minds like this. Better to rid themselves of this magic and go back to normal.
Thereâs a brief moment of silence. Danny wonders what the others are thinking outside as he wipes the tears from his face, more determined now than heâs ever been.
"Promise me this, too, Danny," Bruce says, unable to stop himself. His fingers bleed white where they ball into fists. "Promise me that youâll come back and find us when you're done. No matter how you came to be here, you're a part of this family. We will always accept you as you are, ghostly powers or not. You're family now."
"Yeah," Danny whispers, voice choking on the thought. His chin trembles and his mouth downturns and when he squeezes his eyes closed, tears roll down his cheeks. He hunches himself up, hugging his knees, as small as he can make himself.
"I mean it, Danny. You're one of us and we want you to stay." Bruce tries to rest a comforting hand on his leg, but Danny snatches it away, unable to bear the touch.
"I know." Danny says, with a watery laugh as he smiles at Bruce. "I know you do. You have to. Because of the wish."
And then Danny tucks his head back into his arms and sobs.Â
Bruce can't stand it, he hates it when his children cryâand that's what Danny is, he's his child, no matter what circumstances brought him here. He knows his mind, he knows himself, and he knows that he'd never turn away a child like Danny. He never has and he never will, because, at his core, that's who Bruce Wayne is.
He reaches over to pull Danny into a hug, and, after a tense second where Bruce thinks heâs going to pull away again, Danny latches on tightly and squeezes him hard, as if he's worried he's going to lose him forever.
Bruce hugs Danny and Danny hugs him back and neither of them acknowledge that itâs because of the wish.
Danny comes back to a warzone in Amity. Turns out without Phantom around to keep things in relative check, everything has gone to shit. And not just for the humans. Without Danny there to sabotage their efforts, the ghost hunters had also becoming scarily and increasingly competent. Loathe as she is to admit it, Desiree has learned a thing or 2 herself about 'Careful what you wish for'. She wanted Phantom out of the way, so she sent him away, and it was a mistake.
Danny comes back to a warzone, humans and ghosts alike suffering, and it just layers on the guilt even more. 2 whole months he was in Gotham. He was basically healed ages ago. He could have at least checked in. But he didn't. 2 whole months living the stolen good life, taking advantage of such good people as the Bats and neglecting his responsibilities here. Well no more. He's going to fix this. No matter what it does to him. He has to.
He finds Desiree in a cage with the GIW. She's weak. He has to share a lot of his own ecto with her first. There are ghost nearby howling for him to help them instead. They don't understand that prioritizing Desiree is how he's helping them. It doesn't make it any easier to ignore their pleas. Once she's strong enough, it's easier than he expected it to be to convince her to turn back his wish. He tells her what he wants and she stares at him for a long moment, something calculating in her eyes; then wordlessly, she nods. Between one blink and the next, the world unwrites itself, and Danny goes from hovering over Desiree in a GIW lab to being strapped back to the table in his parent's basement.
It hurts. Ancients, he'd forgotten how much this hurt! It's agony. Instantly, Danny wants to give in to his selfish desires again. Desiree is right there, staring at him with a grim look. It's like she's waiting for him to do something. He won't. He won't do that again. The pain is invading, steadily consuming his coherent thought. But he focuses on the time he had with the Waynes. Lets the memories of a truly loving family give him strength. And he thinks about what his wish had wrought. And lets that knowledge harden his resolve.
He doesn't wish. He simply commands.
"Go home, Desiree. Leave, and warn the others that Amity Park isn't safe." Another moment of staring. Another wordless nod. And then Danny is alone. Alone in the basement, waiting for his parents to wake back up and come down to continue their work. With nothing better to do, Danny loses himself to the pain and guilt and memories of a softer life.
.
Now what Danny doesn't realize is that Desiree is much wiser than she was 2 relative months ago. Wiser and a part of her even softened towards the little prince who would give himself, who has given himself, over and over and over again; even for those who have done nothing but but cause him harm. Danny comes and demands his wish undone. And he doesn't use the magic words, but Desiree has manipulated these things to her benefit before. Danny wants his wish undone, and so it is done.
But, crucially, it is only his wish undone. Hundreds of miles away, several Bats begin to experience their lives twice over. It's confusing, disconcerting, distressing. It'll be 2 months before the conflicting memories catch up with the relative present. But once they do, once the Bats of Gotham have the information they need, they will come. Desiree just needs to be patient. Wait. And wish for herself that Phantom will stay strong enough to hang on until they come.
Fuck that hurts god damn okay but now i gotta fix it right?
So i think something really really cool abt Desiree is that her powers are ONLY limited by the wish, right? And she has been twisting these things to her benefit for thousands of years. She knows how to be selective about the things she weaves with her powers. So when she unravels things she very deliberately leaves the bats out of the rewrite. (Under a readmore cause it got LONG lmao)
They all feel it happen. Lets give it two days after Danny leaves, enough time to fly back and get into the facility with enough time to feed her the ecto so she CAN do it. So they go those two days researching and trying desperately to plan for how to get the information about amity and about danny to their past selves. No fucking way they dont guess that time fuckery could be involved, and they remember what kind of state danny was in when he appeared.
Even if the acceptance and love are influenced, the objective take on the situation is that a child was viviscected. Maybe the acceptance and love will take a little more effort, but like hell are they going to just sit around and wait for this child to save himself. Especially with the possiblity of things reverting to how they were when he appeared, aka, with him literally cut open on a lab table.
And then they feel it when the wish breaks, for a quarter of a second they know that the burning desire to save this stranger who is already family is completely their own, and then they watch the month going by in reverse.
Desiree is able to rewrite memories and minds, and we know it is possible for those involved to remember bits and pieces if pre and post wish worlds, so maybe this time she allows the bats to watch as she unravels time. It's quite terrifying, on a lot of levels, but all the sudden they are all standing in the cave. Bruce is sitting at the computer, sarcastic remark dying on his tongue and the little grin dropping quickly.
Dick is halfway through ruffling Damian's hair, Steph is getting back to her feet after death dropping to avoid Bruce's hug, duke is halfway up the stairs to catch a couple hours of sleep before school in the morning. Jason is halfway to his bike to sneak out before alfred can give him The Look:tm: that always ends up making him stay the night.
The tea service alfred had been carrying towards the debrief table shatters as it hits the ground. Alfred is white as sheet, his hands shaking as he looks at Bruce. The whole cave goes silent as everyone takes a second to process.
Jason is the first to move, straightening from the hunch he had adapted to make himself smaller in an effort to not be seen, he clears his throat and says, "Had we gotten those coordinates yet?"
And just like that the cave is a flurry of activity again. Bruce changes the wording of his wish, just to try it, to see if it might work again. "I wish Danny was with us" doesn't get a reaction (not that they were expecting one, they figured it wouldn't be that simple but it never hurts to try), so he starts flying through screens on the computer. Duke turns right the fuck back around and comes bounding down the stairs to suit back up. Steph calls Cass immediately. Babs is already on a call on the batcomputer doing her own searches for amity. Alfred enlists Dick and Damian into helping pack what they will need onto the batjet.
Jason makes himself useful by taking Alfred's place as the one to prepare the tea and coffee for everyone.
And Tim? Tim calls Kon. Because yeah, taking a super into amity would be, quite possibly, the worst idea possible, but no way in hell is Tim going to wait the however long it takes for the batjet to get there when he has a super on speed dial that can carry him (and his bike) close enough to amity fast enough to keep his new baby brother from suffering any more then he had to.
They all knew how horrific Danny's injuries were when he first arrived, but Tim had been Alfred and Bruce's third pair of hands when they treated them. He is intimately aware of how many organs Danny was missing that first night. He refuses to allow him to come to any more harm.
They get the coords they need and bruce barely pulls on the cowl before he is calling clark to transport him alongside kon and tim to a drop point about twenty minutes out from the city, the closest they are willing to risk the supers getting. They jack a car from the nearest house and they make jack Fenton's driving seem perfectly safe with how hard they push it. (He wont be too late again, he just fucking got this one he refuses he will not be too late he will save his son he CAN'T DO IT AGAIN-)
They arrive at fentonworks about an hour after the reset happened. They aren't worried about subtlety, they march up to the front door and Bruce doesn't even bother with picking the lock, he just kicks the door in, lets Tim worry about the security system. Jack and maddie come flying out of their room and all the 9th degree black belt training in the world couldn't stand up to a Batman facing off against the people who vivisected one of his kids.
"Where is he" might as well be a fucking growl with how low Bruce's voice is. He knocks maddie out cold cause despite her being the smaller of the two she is the more skilled fighter, the bigger threat. "Where is Danny? Where is my son?"
The question (and the confused-offended answer of "your son???? I dont know anything about your son! My son is dead") becomes moot when tim calls out that he found the right door. Bruce effeciently (viciously) knocks jack out cold too before turning around and practically flying down the stairs.
Danny is awake long enough to blink tiredly at him and, voice small and hoarse and so achingly sad, say "Dad?"
Bruce cups his face in his hands, leans down to rest their foreheads together as he says, softly, "I'm here, chum, son, Danny. I'm here, we came for you. We are getting you out of here."
If it werent for the low hum of Danny's core as it absorbs the affection and care that is both genuine and unforced, Bruce would probably be loosing it right about then, cause danny passes right the fuck out and Bruce is like this close đ to a flashback to when he literally held jason as he died. Tim gets the restraints off of him and then starts trashing the lab, plugs a data copying stick into the computer and goes tearing through it to find anything that might help keep danny stable while bruce very gently assess for any wounds they don't know about and then pulls out the field stitching kit so they can at least close him up a little while waiting for the others to arrive. At some point when he sees B pull out the emergency field stuff tim realizes danny has to have his own stash of first aid stuff somewhere and goes tearing through the rest of the house to find it. If he makes a point of stomping as hard as he can on the fentons when he passes them then no one is there to judge him for it.
By the time the others arrive they have the fentons tied up and secured (still out cold) in the master bedroom. Danny is laid out on the living room couch in case he wakes-they refuse to let him wake in the lab-and for as much as Bruce has tried very hard to convince Tim to take over sitting with Danny so he can also go through the lab, Bruce has yet to let go of Danny's hand. It takes the batjet three hours to get there. Tim has already managed to shut the portal down so the only ghosts getting through would be ones already out or who are using a natural portal.
Honestly, i just have this image in my head of an exhaused batman with ectoplasm streaked through with blood all over him and the cowl down sitting on the floor in front of the couch where danny lays, still out cold, with both hands holding one of Danny's and his forehead pressed to Danny's shoulder. There is a portable iv pole that is hooked up to the hand bruce isn't holding. Jason is sat on the arm of the couch near Danny's head with one hand smoothing through Danny's hair and the other on Bruce's shoulder to help ground his dad. Maybe the rest of the bats are scattered around the room doing their own thing, self soothing or whatever, but the focus being on Bruce and his two dead sons-the one he failed to save in time and the one he didn't. The one who died long before they met and the one he held as it happened, and how fucking close he got to never seeing Danny again.
Maybe, just in case Desiree got the magic wrong and the Bats won't make it in time, she left Sam and Tucker's memories of the two months alone too. She didn't wake them, didn't let them experience the rewind like she did the bats, but she left their memories so that when they did wake up there was a chance they would be able to help Danny.
They arrive to see the scene above. No one wanted to stay behind (least of all alfred), so pretty much the whole batfam is in the house. Dick is upstairs making sure the fentons dont wake and try anything. Damian is with Tim in the lab, helping go through things there. Duke is in the kitchen with alfred (he was going to just help make the hot chocolate but now he is on food wrangling duty so alfred can make the hot coacoa and coffee). Steph is back on the batjet getting the rest of the supplies they will need to get Danny ready to move.
And Bruce and Jay are in the living room with Danny.
And Sam and Tucker walk in and holy shit Batman is here and oh my god the cowl is down and what the fuck is he crying? Jesus christ is that Bruce Wayne?
The only reason they don't immediately flip is because Danny wakes enough to whimper and Bruce immediately hushes him and Danny leans into the touch and comfort and says "B? Dad?" And Bruce says "Shh, Son, I got you. You're safe. I got you." And Danny whimpers a little more when he tries to sigh, but very clearly relaxes at the sound of Bruce's voice anyway.
Fuck man. Now i wanna write this for real. Just. Something something two dead sons and one greiving dad. B getting to have emotions and show them. B who cares so much it hurts for this scrawny, slip of a sixteen year old he met two months ago and loves so so so deeply anyway. This is the Bruce who brought a street kid home after knowing him for a cumulative like, hour max because he saw the boy had a good heart and was son shaped. This is the Bruce that sat with a scared dying girl in an illusory park of her own making so she didn't have to be scared to die alone. This is the Bruce that cant kill not because he wouldn't stop after but because he cant let himself stop trying to save everyone even when he knows he cant. This is the bruce who stumbles so so often in his relationships with his kids but still loves them so deeply that losing a single one would break him, even the one he has only had for 2 months.
Danny may not have been his son when he first fell into his lap, but by god is this boy his now.
Danny wakes slowly, this time. Last time he woke up in the lab it was in agonizing pain, fire jolting right through his soul and please anything but that again
He remembers seeing Desiree fade before things got too bad and all he was was pain; that has to be enough
Heâs on the table, heâs staying here, and even if Desiree did care enough to do anything, he didnât even tell the Bats where Amity Park is
Why didnât he just tell them where he lived? Even at the end?
(He knows why; so that when they came back to their senses and realized ghosts are a threat, such a serious threat, they were mind controlled for months how could they think otherwise, they couldnât just come for him
Not because he thought theyâd fail to find him; not the bats, heâs seen them work
But he had to hope his birth parents could finish him off before he had to see the betrayal in their eyes
So he could pretend Bruceâs last words were still true, and someone might have loved him anyway)
So heâs in no hurry to wake up this time; it wonât change what they do to him, and it hurts just a little less all sleep hazed like this
The table almost feels soft under him
Like falling asleep on the couch, where his ass always sinks into that spot between the cushions
It⊠feels a lot like the couch, actually
Like thereâs really warm hands holding his, not just the memory of a dream. More hands in his hair, so soft and gentle
Danny wakes slowly, fighting all the way, desperate not to let those last remnants of what must be a dream fade⊠only they never do
When he wakes up, his dad is there, and Desiree undid the spell, she must have, he felt time reverse⊠and his own memories are so fuzzy, he canât really remember the time clearly, just vague impressions of a home and a family and all these faces⊠he loves these faces
They all love him, and Danny just canât remember their names or why he wants to cry so badly but just this once he does
And his dad, the dad who loves him, holds him tenderly so he canât pull his stitches, soothes him and dries his tears, and maybe heâll have to learn all his siblingsâ names over again
(Or just be reminded; once he hears them they slot into place, once they tell a real story he can remember it (this comes in handy when Duke tries to swear Danny promised to do all his algebra for him a couple months later) itâs just⊠slightly out of reach)
ââââ
As for Danny himself. Well, he always wondered what happens when you kill a halfa the rest of the way
Heâs in ghost form when Bruce finishes stitching and finally peels him off the table; itâs for the best, all the bats know it, the IV is pure ecto not blood both to boost his healing powers and to keep him in ghost form because as a humanâŠ
As a human this would have killed him weeks ago
Ghosts can heal; even for a halfa, who actually has physical organs that can be prodded and removed, none of them are actually life sustaining except the core
All of the bats are quick to assure Danny that theyâll keep getting him ecto, not to try and change back, not until his wounds have healed
Danny doesnât tell them that heâs not even sure he could anymore
He could always feel his humanity before, a tethering weight on his core that bound him to life, could be tugged on as needed or when his ecto ran too low
Itâs not there now
Itâs not until the bats get worried, that days have passed and heâs still just a ghost, that he realized he must have changed back by now in the other timeline
Theyâd tended his wounds as human for a while, heâd still needed to heal, but it had been days. Not weeks. Not months, and he still doesnât feel that weight
Because last time, well, it was just physical injuries
Heâd been overwrought and in pain and thought it was the worst emotional pain heâd ever feel, but Desireeâs wish had given him one thing she hadnât accounted for (or had, in a moment of mercy)
He wanted his family to accept him
The Fentons hadnât been his family while he healed
This time, he put himself on that table, under that knife, knowing even as his birth parents betrayed him he had betrayed his chosen family in such a worse way; forced himself into their heads and hearts, manipulated them into thinking they loved him
Bruce, coincidentally, has added a ghost portal to the batcave, and by the time itâs finished heâs out of patience waiting for Danny to heal
Sam and Tuck use the Spectre Speeder to fly Danny, Bruce, and Jason to Frostbite to find out whatâs going on, and Dannyâs expecting to be told itâs too late
Heâs never going to be the human son Bruce wanted, because he died on that table and he knows that will destroy Bruce even if his ghost sticks around
Itâs not that though
Danny can hardly believe it, hardly bear to hear it, but itâs not that
This time his core was fractured, almost past repair, and it will take more than just time and ecto to heal
It will take what he broke it for losing; love, and family, and care
He almost begs Bruce and Jason not to tell on the way home because part of him is still afraid he canât have those things, that heâll never be fixed
(This is why itâs still broken)
Part of it is knowing full well exactly what will come when his siblings hear that
Dick installs himself in a hammock over Dannyâs bed so he can hold Dannyâs hand while he sleeps but not be in the way (no matter how much Danny tries to avoid it)
Steph steals the curtains and redoes them in paintings of all their adventures
The others might think Cass leaves his room sometimes but Danny knows she doesnât, can feel her life and her worry and her own forming core under the bed
(Alfred probably knows too, because he brings enough for two with each meal)
Jason redefines fudge by making every single family favourite Danny ever mentioned and gives them all a Wayne family twist
(Bruce pouts at the one with each square leafed in edible gold but Danny laughs so hard he forgets to breathe so he canât complain)
Tim makes The Worldâs Most Obnoxious Family Slideshow and time got rewritten so none of these fucking photos should exist but heâs Tim Drake and Desiree left him a boon
Changed versions of the photos she intentionally left unchanged the last time
(She also circled Amity Park on the paper map inside the Batplane sheâs not a digital girl okay
The bats donât even notice for a year, until the plane equipment checkups)
Damian still isnât exactly personally sure what being family means, but he is doing his damnedest and that means the full run of Dick Grayson Introductory Family Outings that he was subjected to when he first moved in, in order, as soon as Danny is physically capable of each
(Laser Quest takes a while. Danny insists he could have demolished the lot of them from his sickbed. Being invisible does not count)
Duke, most considerate sibling of all (and most recent recipient of the intro treatment), wrangles the others out of his room for at least a couple hours a day, often with full shadow possession the first few times
(He canât find Cass but thatâs okay, Danny finds that funny and Cass isnât obtrusive)
Healing is still a slow process and comes with the Fun and Exciting caveat of his powers reawakening one by one as the cracks in his core heal⊠and all the ensuing joy of learning to control them as if for the first time
With the fun bonus of extremely overprotective, omnipresent, blackmail hungry siblings to help, âhelpâ, and record his misery
Bruce stops them and confiscates phones the first couple of times, but unfortunately what Danny needs is family, and apparently being obnoxious counts because his recovery speeds up noticeably while playing tug-o-war for Timâs latest recording
For his health, Danny must put up with photos and video of him stuck half way through the bed, half inside Dickâs arm on a bad morning, invisible except for his underwear, and frosted over with a hat, scarf, and snowman esque face melted into his ice
Luckily, getting revenge also counts and speeds his recovery
A new ruler of Hel has been chosen, the fearsome King Phantom, defeater of Pariah Dark. It is time for Asgard to prepare to pay the dues required to keep peace between the realms of the gods and of the dead. Bring the terms of your surrender to Kingâs Phantomâs representative on earth, Daniel James Fenton of Amity Park.
The Noble Scribe of King Phantom,
Ghost Writer
*****
âOkay so let me get this straight,â Tony Stark, Iron Man and Avenger said. âGhosts are real.â
âYes.â King Thor Odinson, Asgardian and god of thunder agreed.
âAnd theyâre evil.â
âA bit of an oversimplification, but yes.â Prince Loki Odinson, sometimes villain and would be planet invader, answered.
âAnd the ghosts have had one ruler, the most powerful ghost in existence. And that new rulers are chosen by combat, meaning that every new ruler is more powerful than the last.â
âYes, youâve got the idea.â Thor said looking down at his knees for a moment.
âAnd since ghosts are so evil and so powerful, that means that their ruler is practically an unstoppable force of destruction.â
âDoesnât it sound delightful?â Loki asked, to which he received a glare.
âSo, for the past 10,000 years, at least, Asgard and plenty of other realms have been paying taxes to the ghost king to avoid a war. A racketeering scheme.â
âI donât know what a racketeering scheme is but yes, the ghost peace treaty does require that Asgard pay the ghost king gold and magical weapons every century and if we fail to pay that price, then the peace treaty will be broken and Asgard will likely be forfeit.â
âThatâs a racketeering scheme!â
âWell then yes.â
Tony pinched the bridge of his nose. It was clear the manâs headache was only growing stronger as he walked through the information the two gods had dumped into his lap this morning. Thor and Loki both had rushed into his lab and started babbling about world ending threats and how they might possibly be absolutely screwed.
âSo, now thereâs a new king. Which means a new peace treaty has to be signed.â Tony said the words âpeace treatyâ in the same way heâd say ânuclear bombâ or âSteve Rogersâ.
âI thought you said it was a racketeering scheme?â Loki asked.
âShut it.â Tony hissed.
âA new treaty must be signed.â Thor repeated, trying to keep the three of them on track.
âAnd since the last king Pariah Dark was so powerful that he made the entirety of Asgard tremble, youâre pretty sure this new king, Phantom, is probably worse.â
âPariah Dark had the power to suck entire planets into the afterlife, destroying them,â Loki said looking at his nails. âStands to reason that a ghost powerful enough to defeat him could do much, much worse.â
âRight. Fantastic!â Tony practically shouted.
âI donât think anything about this is fantastic.â Thor admitted, he was ignored.
âAnd according to you Asgard has been paying the ghost tax for both their realm and ours since we were under Odinâs protection. And since Hela and Sutur destroyed your entire planet and your entire people are refugees, now we have to figure out how to keep an ultrapowerful ghost from wiping out our home without any way of paying him.â
âTechnically we donât know if Phantom is a âheâ.â Loki pointed out unhelpfully.
âThe letter literally says heâs a king!â
âCould be a title. What do the dead have need for gender?â
âThis is not the point of this discussion,â Thor cut in before an argument about the usefulness of gender and the concept of a female king burst forth. âWeâre here to figure out how to make peace with King Phantom without resulting in a war that would destroy our world and our peoples.â
âWe donât even have Earthâs mightiest heroes anymore.â Loki said, referencing the painful results of the civil war and the Accords.
Tony had figured out that Daniel Fenton was Daniel Phantom, so he went into the meeting with the understanding that he was dealing with a genius teenaged boy who was potentially a sociopath. He was still not prepared to arrive at the meeting hall and find Danny sitting alone with a literal mound of gold and weapons behind him. He was in human form, looking severely sleep deprived, and along from a giant carafe of coffee.
Tony: So, kid, what's with the threats? You clearly live here, too.
Danny: Threats? What? No! I want this stupid planetary rivalry to end! Mr. King Thor - I understand your people have recently been displaced. I offer you all the gold and weapons your people have sent over since your father's rule began. In return, I ask that you surrender and cease threatening us with oblivion via your older sister, Hela. My people have no desire to obliterate this planet and only did so under the orders of the Tyrant King Pariah Dark, the Ghost of your great-grandfather Buri.
Thor: um, what?
Danny: Look, I wouldn't have even said anything, but since I still live on this planet part-time, I need to make peace treaties with every alien race who has central leadership and calls this planet home! I can get away with not doing this fudge with Earth because we don't have a centralised monarchy, but now that the rule of the Nine Realms has claimed this as their home planet? I can't even visit my living relatives without it being classed as treason!
Tony: *starts to see the bigger picture here*
Tony: ok, so, just to be clear - nobody wants to obliterate anybody, or start a war?
Thor and Danny: no!
Tony: I can work with this. Friday, order us some food and some more coffee, tell the lesson to stand down.
There has been so much talk about how to cast Carrie in the upcoming Carrie movie. What she would look like. I think that's a mistake.
The best way to make a Carrie movie, in my honest opinion, is to not show her face. Show the cruelty yes, show the gossip, show the cruel prank from behind her, and show the aftermath, but don't show her face.
That way people who have known a "carrie" and let's be honest, just about everyone has known a carrie, will instinctively imagine her face as that one girl they knew. The girl whose bullying was both a team sport and a spectacle. The girl who was failed by peers and her elders alike. This would force people to face themselves and their own cruelty.
And the people who understand Carrie, who have been Carrie will be able to project on her a little easier and get more catharsis from the ending of that town.
Furthermore this would empathize the nature of rumors, gossip, and to an extent folklore. Frame it in the context of a generation or two forward from a neighboring town. That way everyone talks about Carrie but no one sees her, just like in life.
Joker dies bcs during his big dramatic speech of the day he tries to be be all insane and funny by pretending to shoot himself in the head with his BANG! flag gun but he fucks up getting distracted by flirting with Batman and mixes up his guns and he shoots himself in the face in front of the bats. Jason, who was being bodily held back from shooting him himself by Bruce and Dick for the past 15 minutes, laughs so hard he fractures a rib and has to be carried back to the batmobile
i've changed my mind the reason Jason's laughing so hard is because he's the only one that noticed Tim quietly sneak up and switch out the guns because 'as long as Joker pulls the trigger not me then it doesn't count as murder' and Dick and Bruce have no idea why when they finally get to the batmobile Jason insists on high-fiving Tim because Tim claims he 'only just got here, what do you mean the Joker's dead?'
