Lounging about in your own homeāone hand on your phone playing a game about training horses, your desktop lit with genshin while in the middle of a questāthe epitome of multitasking in gaming, yet, still a gambling addict. In the middle of a run with a certain dropkicking horse girl, genshin seems to start running... oddly. What was a story of a moon goddess meant to return to the moon beyond the false sky now turned towards you, the fourth wall, the one who sees over their story.
The text below now spoke of:
"The one who sees us ā who sees our world as a game ā come and witness our world beyond this glass".
The screen showed scattered colours of a glitch before it went blank, the sudden scene making you shoot up from your seat and step back with your body tense while your phone fell from your hand.
As you bend down to pick up your fallen phone ā it's screen facing downāyou see not just a cracked screen, but all the girls you had obtained, with the girl you were training in the idle room staring back at you; the text box now showing:
"You're not leaving us, trainer, right? We haven't won our goal yet".
The world suddenly flashed into an array of blinding hues before you felt your body grow limp until it felt numb. As your sensations start to return, starting from your ears, you hear the sound of the winds whispering soft murmurs over your form, then your skin regaining its sense of touch as it felt the soft grazes of grass tickling from behind ā had there been grass in your room? ā then your nose picking up the scent of what you believe is the smell of outdoors.
Lastly, your eyelids unfold to allow your irises witness the scene of pale blue skies with the sun unveiling the colours of the world around you. A setting unfamiliar to where you live.
"What... Where..." Your voice a harsh croak as you felt your throat parched like El NiƱo, yet you still had enough strength to still push yourself up to sit up from the greenery around you.
Your eyes gaze upon the new world around you ā so familiar yet not so ā before your legs push you up from the ground bellow you. Your legs carrying across this land before stopping at a nearby stream behind a large tree that could have touched the skies ā again, intimately close yet no so ā so you kneel down to cup a hand of water from the stream to quench your thirst.
A shadow grows from behind her before stopping to a halt, a presence looming from behind her, yet when you turned to see who, it was someone you never thought to see breathing before you.
A tall feminine and athletic form; hair, white like a void incomprehensible; a headpiece that covers the sides of her head like earphones, yet a pair of horse ears sit atop her head. She looks down at you with that oh so familiar grin of mischief that usually spouted words with meaning a mortal mind couldn't fathom.
"Heyyoo, Trainer. Das you, right?"
You look up to her, speechless, words null inside your head as you can only blink a few times to show even a sliver of the shock words could now describe.
"... Gold Ship?!"
The name left your mouth like breath ā your throat now less dry from the stream water ā yet also some form of hope as it seemed Gold Ship know who you are.
"Y-you know me? Like, actually?
"Yeah, the shrimp possessing Trainer, right? So, you're Trainer."
Gold Ship's words hit you like a truck. She knew. The person behind her trainer was you, a person that isn't actually the trainer that had been her physically.
"Waitā so... you knowā"
"That you're a real person? yup. My trainer radar never fails, trainer. You underestimate Master Golshi."
More questions started to form in you head to ask, but another voice came into your mind, literally.
"Oh my. Did something happen at the borders? why is there another Otherworlder her?"

Jury duty letter came addressed to my cat.
Not a mistake. "Felix Martinez" - that's his full name according to his vet records.
My last name. His first name. Somehow he's a registered voter now.
Called the county clerk.
Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty.
Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons?
Me: Yes, but he's a cat.
Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county?
Me: He's a legal cat.
Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption.
Me: He can't file anything. He has paws.
Clerk: You can file on his behalf.
Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat."

Clerk: He's a cat.

Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later.

Took the letter to my vet.

Me: Perfect.
Sent it in. Got another rejection.
"Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court."
My roommate thought this was hilarious.
Roommate: Felix is going to jail.
Me: This is serious.
Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens.
Decided that was actually the only option left.
Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters.
Checked in at the courthouse.
Clerk: Name?
Me: Felix Martinez.
Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix?
Me: Yes.
Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat.
Me: I've been saying that for six weeks.
Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption?
Me: I filed three. All rejected.
Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief.
Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation?
Me: Twice.
Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this.
Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me.
Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote?
Me: You tell me.
Supervisor: This is a data error.
Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out.
They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience.
Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry.
Me: Appreciate it.
Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted?
Me: Probably whatever party supports universal treats.
Got a formal apology letter a week later and a voter registration card.
For me this time. Apparently I wasn't registered, but my cat was.
Roommate: Felix committed voter fraud.
Me: Felix committed nothing. He's innocent.
Roommate: That's what they all say.

Inspired by "LambyLand" ARG. Idea is kinda spoilery for the inspiration source. By the way, I recommend either play it by yourself, or watch a YouTube video about it. It's quite good.
In a way, it's a "mirror sister" of Platonic! Yanderes! Sunday and Robin's post. But, instead of two Platonic Yandere Angels, we have one Platonic Yandere Chthonic Thing.
Warning: Pantalone is either a demon or an eldritch god. Kids are being tricked into praying to him. Parental negligence, physical abuse from siblings, bullying from peers. People are being kidnapped and stuck in digital world. To make things clear, Pantalone does genuine care about Reader, but Reader are the only one he cares about.
It was going so well to Pantalone. This small online game for children was a perfect ground to gather followers. This kids listen to him. They seek his protection. They prayed and asked for his help. For their guardian to save them from people who hurt them.
He was benevolent, so he helped them. He will help. They will pray and respect him. He will get followers and souls of people he captured. Fair deal. Equivalent exchange.
And then devs pulled some "giving awareness" trick with the shepard character.
Pantalone managed to pull devs in his world. But, because of shepard, he was now locked away, the game servers' were turned off, and the game disappeared. He was forgotten. His followers forgot about him. The souls he collected were with him, but they didn't pray or bow. They were just here, a chew toys for his intertaiment if he gets bored.
There was nothing he could do.
He fought. He tried to reach out to anyone he could. But whatever sheppard did was holding strong. He can't leave the now dead site.
And, when he finally managed to pull site back to the surface, most of the pages were corrupted from his influence. It wasn't a cute, child friendly place. It was now a mess.

Pantalone wasn't picky, he could totally have adults as followers. But adults were trickier. If the site looked as it was before, he could try to lure in an adult in his clutches. But now, adults will have questions. Kids will be scared. He had an opening again, but what good it will be, if it cannot bring him followers?
Until one day, someone visited the site. They returned next day. And on the third day.
Someone was here... Now, Pantalone should find a way to get to them.
No one one at home cared what you were doing while online. Your parents were too busy to pay attention to you, your siblings... didn't like you that much. So, you just click any site you wanted.

This new MMO appeared out of nowhere. One day it just popped up. No advertising, no interviews with the devs. The servers were down. Yes, you could wander around game world as a guest, visit few pages, but there was no interaction between other users.
What was even stranger, it looks like site already was functioning for some time. There were comments and messages from years ago, but you couldn't write a single comment now.
Some pages were scary. Strange texts were written on top of developers' messages, most of colouring pages were corrupted. And, when one of your siblings set the time on the computer at midnight as a prank, site pages becaume scary, red and black with disturbing faces painted all over.
You came to conclusion, that it was done on purpose. Maybe, someone created a scary art project?
You decide to look through the site more carefully. You liked riddles, and it's not like you have better things to do.
From comments, you learnt about The Guardian. Either a hacker or a ghost that gave gifts to users who prayed in the in game church location. With more snooping, you find login and password to one of the accounts. It was blocked, you couldn't write to anyone (expected, it was an art project, after all), but you could read chat history. It was late already, so, you left reading for tomorrow.
You went to bed.
Tomorrow, the account was unbanned, chat history was gone.
And there was a new message from The Guardian.
You replied. You two talked. A lot. About different topics.
You talked today. Tomorrow. Overmorrow...
You thought it was a very advanced bot. With uniquely good memory. You don't think it was a real person. No one would be that dedicated to chatting as ordinary people on topics not about the project, right?
You forgot, that The Guardian in this art project was supposed to be antagonist.
You just like to have someone to talk with. Even if it was a bot.

Pantalone couldn't believe his luck. This kid were still here. They talked with him. They seek his words. They... didn't pray or ask for anything.
They just talked with him like he was their friend. About weather, homework , what they liked and don't like. Yes, they thought he was some sort of a program, but... If Pantalone's knowledge was correct, it was a very sad sign.
Pantalone influence the site. Reminded kid again and again about what The Guardian could do. Yes, with current state of game his gifts will be useless, but he can deal with people who hurt you. Don't you want payback? He can help.
But you either ignored his hints, or you were a very happy kid.
He didn't know how or why, but he learned to enjoy the conversations. This kid don't want anything from him. They talked because they wanted to, not because they wanted to ask for premium in-game skin.
They were here. They were alive. They remember him.
They weren't a follower. They were his little friend.
And that's why, when one day kid told Pantalone about being bullied at school, he skipped "pray in the in-game church" or "ask me directly" parts.
He dealt with them. His digital prison gained more human souls for the first time in years.
He did it again, when kid wrote to him at the middle of the night after their older brother beat them.
Once again, no prayers or derect asking. He just dragged this creature to his domain.
Slowly Pantalone became a protector and real caretaker.
He reminded kid to eat, to drink water, to go to bed. He dealt with people, who hurt kid.
His powers were returning. Soon, Pantalone will be free.
Not from having a follower. Because he now was a father.
And then, one night...

It became a habit to write to The Guardian (or, how he sometimes called himself, Pantalone) when you had a bad day. So, when you were left alone in the apartment, because your parents were too busy with themselves, than with paying attention to you, and you felt so sad and so alone, you once again wrote to him. You told him that you were alone. That you wanted some company.
Bot took his time, before answering.
"Let me try something."
It was a strange reply.
What happened next, was stranger.
The site became distorted. Gloved hand with rings everged from the red black depths. It went through the screen. It was real, and reached to frozen you.
It didn't grab. It rub away your tears. It was placed on top of your head. Grounding you. It was warm. It was real. It stayed here.
You didn't know, how long you were just sitting here. You just let The Guardian pet you.
At the end, hand returned back to the monitor.
New message appeared.
Pantalone promised to be a good father. To never abandon you. To give you the world. He only asked you not to be afraid of him and continue talking.
You still remember what comments said about The Guardian. About praying.
Pantalone never asked you to pray. He listened and talked, not asking for anything in return.
So, you put your trust in Pantalone.

I am so utterly fascinated by āSakiā, the 18-year-running mahjong manga in which you, the reader, become gradually, frog-boilingly aware (over the course of nearly two decadesā worth of mahjong tournaments) that none of these girls are wearing underwear and most of their boobs are slowly expanding.
I need you to understand that I have, like, an anthropological level fascination with this comic. From the perspective of someone who is also a comic artist and writer, two things delight me about it:
the fact that I understand completely how an artist gets from āthe fans can have a little hint of skirted asscheekā to āthe pussy is completely out on center pageā over the course of 18 years; and
the way in which the pussy being out is treated by the characters and diegesis as being utterly unremarkable.
Okay. Point 1. The frog-boiling.
Let me put this in perspective for you. There was already a meme about how the characters in āSakiā donāt wear underwear when I was in middle school. I am thirty now. Okay? And itās still going.
In the time since, this has stopped being a joke. It is now indisputable canon. This is not because anyone outright says it at any point. Itās because the underwear ran out of places to hide. Iām obsessed with this thought: somewhere in the over 20 volumes of āSakiā, there is a panel in which underwear was objectively deconfirmed. And it would be so hard to figure out where that panel actually is. Maybe the artist didnāt even realize it when she drew it! The frog? Boiling!!
And of course there is also the breast expansion. I donāt know how to put a spin on this. They are just expanding. Like, this happens a lot with artists: you define a character as being, in your mind, āthe one with the big boobsā, and over the years you emphasize that trait further and further so that the signal doesnāt get lost in the noise. Itās just that normallyāin like a wildly popular manga series about mahjong published by literally Square Enix, for exampleānormally there would be a point at which the boobs stopped getting bigger. Like, an editor would step in or something. Or you would get to the point where you cannot draw the character in the same panel as her mahjong tiles without her breasts spilling over the tiles, and youād go, āWell, this is now untenable.ā
That did not happen. There is no ceiling. The frog is soup.
Point 2. The complete and utter mundanity of all of this.
Itās like this, okay: thereās no shortage of trashy ecchi manga out there. Thereās a million other comics doing wildly bawdier things with wildly more improbable bishoujos.
The vibe with āSakiā is different.
Itās hard to explain this, but it feels like the world of the comic is fundamentally uninterested in the fanservice happening on the page. I cannot describe it as āleeringā, because I cannot conceive of a person in the story from whose point of view one would leer. I think the artist is probably into itāI canāt imagine anyone is making her do thisābut āSakiā the comic has no opinion on the matter.
There are essentially no male characters in āSakiā. Like, there was one guy? Kind of? At the very beginning? But he is gone now. They put him back in the toybox. He does not exist. It appears to be some level of canonical that in the world of āSakiā, almost all humans are women. Those women are sometimes romantically into each other. According to comments the artist has made on Twitter (which I cannot source), they have lesbian baby technology, so itās no problem. Itās so much not a problem that the story is about mahjong, instead of any of that.
So, like, the fiction here appears to be this: this is the, like, meta-narrative of the fanservice of āSakiā, right: itās just normal that they donāt wear underwear and their boobs are arbitrarily big. Itās been normal. It was normal before the story of the manga began. Itās just how things are. Nobody bats an eye about it, and if they do, itās in sort of a lesbian kind of way so like whatās the problem, we love lesbians here. This is literally normal for girls.
The fanservice simply diffuses into this all-encompassing aura of disembodied, ambient sluttiness. The framing of the panels demands you acknowledge it, and the story demands you already be over it, because itās mahjong time now, and weāre playing mahjong.
Do you get??? why Iām so fascinated??? Are you not a little enraptured???
Anyway, I have no idea how to end this weird post. I guess the conclusion is that women stay winning????
I have so many questions... How does one SUSPECT a manga character isn't wearing underwear? Like, sure, boobs are front and center amd you can see them get bigger panel by panel but how does this work for panties? Are there just that many upskirt shots?
Also how do you keep a manga about Mahjong going for 18 years, what??
