my unironic conspiracy theory is that most large corporations have realized that if they just smack their customers over the head over and over again with poor quality service and products, customers will just give up, and that products are actively being made worse on purpose

example: people are praising live service video games for not screwing them as hard as pure cash grabs, when a decade ago we were all screaming at the top of our lungs at the mere concept of a live service game that we have to pay for continuously

the average consumer, myself included, is not strong enough to resist years-long campaigns of sustained, intentional disappointment. and what can we do? the consumer legitimately holds no power, and the avenues to make your voice hears have been made extremely difficult

this isn't me longing for some bygone era where capitalism was awesome. we were always headed down this road. motives in this system are always profit-based, and profit is most easily made through dishonesty

it will get worse before it gets better, but i do believe things are getting better. i see people DIYing things a lot more often and avoiding paying for their hobbies. i see a lot of piracy. these are all good. companies will have to offer a good service or collapse

example: i play Warhammer. it was decently more affordable when i got into the hobby. now, i very rarely buy anything actually from GW, because their prices are insane and their FOMO marketing pisses me off. at least half my models are third party

Be self aware. Cultivate that in yourself.

Have you eaten enough? When will food be available again?

If you haven't, go ahead. Eat. Be mindful of portions and eat for your goals.

If you have, it is ok to say no. It is ok to skip eating something that does not align with your goals. Especially if you have more nutritive or mindful options at home.

Writing this to myself as a personal note to stop over consumption. The people pleasing. The resources I am taking could be used for someone else. I don't need to eat multiple meals when others are going hungry.

I recently stopped using Spotify. The one thing that prevented me to do so was that I wasn't able to support artists without it because albums, even digital, tend to be a bit expensive and I'm not in a position where I can currently afford it + the slow death of physical discs makes it next to impossible to get a second hand copy of RECENT releases for a better price. Especially indie ones because most of the time they release like 100 to 500 copies of cassettes/CDs/Vinyls and that's it.

So back to 🏴‍☠️. I'll try to buy a couple of my fav releases a month to support artists. But Spotify, I can't anymore. Not only does it really NOT support artists, but the CEO is pro Palestinian g3n0cide, and just to be honest, I HATE subscription/streaming shit. It killed so much of the joy of curating a collection, it also became really not so affordable as it was, you don't own anything anymore, everything is slowly becoming subscription based and that is not something that I want to partake on. I'm sorry, but I'd rather steal than contribute to a system that robs both creators AND consummers with a false "but it's cheaper for THIS MUCH content !" crap.

And if we want to have a sliver of a chance to ever own the things we pay for, I encourage everyone to do the same.

Why SEGA Delisting Classic Sonic Games Is Consumer-Friendly.

And no, the answer isn't "Sonic Origins is coming out."

A lot of fans seem to be worried that ports and emulations they already own for the original Sonic trilogy and Sonic CD won't be playable anymore. That fortunately isn't the case, at least for products on Steam and on the Nintendo Switch (I can't speak for PlayStation or Xbox because I don't use either). When a product is delisted from either of these platforms' store pages, it will still be accessible to those who have purchased the software via the software. You can still play it at any time, delete it, and even reinstall it.

In this way, SEGA can make their product lineup related to classic Sonic straightforward, without harming the consumers that have already purchased their previous products.

The Nintendo Switch will still have Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 (the SEGA Ages versions) and Sonic 2 will still be on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion.

International Center for Tropical Agriculture is looking for behavior change experts

International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is working with partners including the private sector to help to tilt the bean value chain in Africa towards higher-quality products. 

But how can consumers be encouraged to eat more iron biofortified beans, bean-based porridge, or bean pasta instead of less healthy options? 

CIAT are hoping to engage a research partner -- as part of a consortium -- to answer this question. The research partner will pair barrier analysis and consumer insights with aspects of nudge theory to establish what works, when, how, and for whom, with the goal of:

Optimizing beans and bean-products uptake and utilization in household and institutional settings

Educating, informing and encouraging consumers to make positive choices for healthful diets
