every single day I think about how american black vultures are known for engaging in interspecific allopreening (preening between different species)
and they have a specific relationship with crested caracaras, in which the black vultures assist them by not only preening them after meals but also leading them to food in the first place— due to their superior sense of smell— while the caracaras assist the black vultures by acting as a warning signal in case of danger
and while this is more typical of black vultures, this is not common at all for any member of the falconidae family— it’s a special bond!

So I can’t brush my teeth. Like, it’s the worst kind of hell. I went to the dentist for a cleaning today and I told the hygienist this, and she was wonderfully helpful.
There are some incredibly soft toothbrushes available- namely, post-surgical brushes. Running them under hot water makes them even softer.
She told me that you don’t really need to use toothpaste- it’s mostly marketing. The foam gets to me, so that is really reassuring.
She gave me two particularly soft brushes and some xylitol gum. Trident is a market brand of xylitol gum, which helps with your teeth and can make your breath smell better.
The whole purpose of brushing is to disrupt plaque buildup. You don’t need to brush twice a day, every day with toothpaste if you brush correctly- little circles, focusing on near the gums (where most plaque builds up). So if you’re having a bad sensory day and can’t brush at all, it’s not the end of the world.
Hell, you don’t even need a toothbrush if even the post-surgical ones are too harsh. Going over your teeth with the same motions using a washcloth is enough.
She wants to find a fluoride rinse that has a taste I can stand (peppermint is the only mint I can stand) but she’s not particularly worried about it.
I go to Dr. Barr in Chicago. If you can get to the State St. Macy’s, his office is nearby. He’s very kind and patient and really understanding of my needs as an autistic person. The hygienist, I don’t know her name, announced everything she was going to do before she did it, and stopped frequently to see how I was doing.
This is really the only positive dentist I’ve ever had- past dentists have been too rough and not bothered to help find ways I can actually brush.
Basically this is a glowing recommendation for Dr. Barr’s office if you’re autistic, afraid of dentists, or have sensory needs. This is a recommendation even if you don’t have any of those things.

Post-covid, I got really horrible shit going on with my gag reflex where for some reason the mint flavor of toothpaste (and only toothpaste) would make me gag so hard that I’d throw up. Then I found a kids toothpaste that’s like strawberry flavored or something, but it has the proper adult amount of flouride, so it works for me and I don’t gag much anymore. Also for the people who can’t stand foam, the ingredient you’re looking to avoid is called SLS.
SLS is short for Sodium Laurel Sulfate
It’s not just responsible for foaming, it’s also what fucks up your sense of taste after you brush
Orange and mint is actually a lovely combination, but SLS and citric acid isn’t
if you have access to an indian grocery store, they also have amazing herbal flavors of the multinational toothpaste brands! i recommend those to anybody who hates the flavors of the usual american toothpastes.

All those "spend just 35 minutes doing a bunch of really hard exercises and you'll feel great forever!" videos are really discouraging. I usually end up doing like, 2 minutes of some of his while waiting for my shower to heat up, and ykw?
That's 2 minutes more than I would have done otherwise.

i have a suggestion
One of the most hypocritical and insane comments I will ever hear from the Rise fandom is slandering 2012 Donnie for following April in Season 2 and saying how Rise Donnie is so much better while completely ignoring the fact that Rise Donnie AND Leo followed April AND her friend for a much worse reason? 😭 Oh, right, but y'all won't talk about that. Anything to keep the Rise glaze going amirite lads or amirite lads? 😂✌️
I don't think people realise that 2012 Donnie was not following April simply because he wanted to or assume that him following her was motivated by his feelings. And, no to both of those things. That episode where Donnie was trailing behind her was during a period of time where April was no contact with the turtles (the main people ready to drop everything and PROTECT HER at a moment's notice). That's because April blamed the turtles for her father's mutation and refused to hear them out when they wanted to say their side of the story.
Several villains are aware of April's existence at this point, and April has been captured and has had things come after her before, (Mugged by the Purple Dragons in Season 1, captured by the Kraang in Season 1's finale) so it is extremely reasonable for the turtles to be concerned about her safety, especially if she's radio silent. (It's safe to assume that if she wasn't meeting up with them, she wasn't answering any 'Are you ok?' messages either).
While you could argue that she still has her T-Phone for if something happened, phones can quickly be broken or taken, T-Phone tracking signals have been lost at several different points in the actual show. And even at that, by the time the turtles respond to a 'Help' message or call, she might already be badly hurt or captured.
While respecting boundaries like 'I want to be left alone' ARE important, this is a universe with villains and aliens bent on experimenting on April or using her as bait for the turtles. At a point, some boundaries have to be tossed for your safety.
The two things Donnie says when April discovers him are, "How have you been?" (concern) and "April, it wasn't OUR fault."
He's not there to talk about himself or make it about feeling rejected by his crush. He was not following her out of his feelings. He was wandering behind her out of concern and because he wanted a chance to explain their side of things.
While I get that Rise Don and Leo's following eventually turned into something similar (protecting April and Sunita from danger) because the Foot Clan were going after them, their initial reason for following and spying on their friend was because they DIDN'T TRUST HER TO HAVE A NORMAL DAY WITHOUT THEM. 😭
2012 Donnie always had somewhat of a valid reason from the very start, Rise just nosy asf.
