i would also like to add for anyone who is scared of making bad art: make the bad art. do it. i am not fucking kidding please make the bad art.
first of all: any artist worth their salt will see it and be happy for you that you're learning! lots of us remember when we first started and all we could see in our own art was "oh god it's terrible this sucks bad bad BAD BAD BURN IT WITH FIRE" and are loathe to inflict or exacerbate that for anyone else. i personally find great joy in finding any little detail that I think is done really well and pointing it out, regardless of how "technically skilled" the actual piece is!
second: you can set off a chain reaction that is one of the most beautiful things I've had the privilege to be a part of. I posted my fanfic because I couldn't take it anymore, I had to get it out, and I wasn't expecting anyone to even read it let alone enjoy it. And then a friend of mine made fanart of my character. And up to that point, I had been, on and off, trying without much success to teach myself a bit of art here and there. That art piece gave me the last push I needed to draw something myself.
The first art of Jay I made had... a lot of things going on with it that I'd do differently today. But when I made it, I got to see my character closer than ever to how I imagined him for the first time. That was a goddamn magical experience.
And now, I've improved enough that I've managed to grasp how to do some of the stuff I always thought would be out of my reach. I've managed to draw some simple stuff with no reference, I've drawn with slight variation from reference, I've drawn birds (which are a particular challenge for me), and I've even started learning a bit of shading(?)!
All of this started because a: I chose to write a story, the opinions of others be damned, b: someone else chose to send me fanart, the opinions of others be damned, and c: I chose to start taking my art just that much more seriously, the opinions of others be damned.
Make weird shit. Make bad art. Every now and then you might make something so bad it kakes you want to throw up thinking about it. That's fine. Move on to a new piece. You've learned something from that. Keep creating and keep learning, and you might just make something really, really cool. I believe in you, and I'm already proud of you just for starting.

It's been just over a year since Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 released! I did the 3D work, which mostly means Tenna 📺 I figured it's been long enough to share some "behind the scenes" stuff, starting with a look at the Maya file for his static poses...
I'd individually render the poses to get that early 3D shine ✨ Here's some of them at their original resolutions! I would work from text descriptions from Toby, and sometimes there'd be a Paint sketch to help out. Gigi drew the concept that I modeled from and some poses too!
I had a lot of fun pushing myself to match the dynamic poses Toby had in mind for Tenna - making him so crazy and expressive was something I couldn't have done without his prompts. He'd draw the faces on afterward too, which really brought Tenna to life!

the big finding of the whole experiment was that both food and comfort are not just substantial, but required for healthy development. in the 50s the popular theory was that mothers should touch and hold their babies as little as possible to avoid “spoiling” them, especially right after birth (which explains uh. a lot about boomers as a generation).

They would go to the wire mothers only when they were hungry, sometimes even trying to reach the milk bottles without letting go of the cloth mothers, because they so badly needed both. Harlow’s other experiments showed that being deprived of parental comfort and enrichment as babies dealt lasting psychological damage to the macaques. and today we know that human babies can just up and die without enough skin-to-skin contact.
so yeah, to highly social apes like us, comfort and fun are no less substantial than food, it’s just a question of how quickly it will kill you to go without it. do not deny yourself the cloth mother
I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?
Don't become a housewife.
And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.
If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
