still not over the encounter i had yesterday
so I'm like. sitting at a table in public, very, very obviously working on my laptop. This guy sits down next to me and apologizes for having a loud phone convo but...doesn't move
then he starts looking at my screen, asking what i'm doing. Wants me to explain what I'm coding, he thinks green is a nice colour on me, blah blah, will NOT go away. So I cut my losses and stand up: "I have to head out, I'm going to a concert, bye!"
"What concert, can I come?"
"Uh...Beethoven string quartets."
"Who? Can you spell that so i can google him"
Considering just fucking booking it but also at this point kind of enthralled in trainwreck sort of way, I spell out, B-E-E-T-H-O-V-E-N
He googles.
"...Oh! He's dead."
"Yeah..."
"Dead for a long time..."
"....yeah"
He then asks me if i want to see a selfie from the concert he went to last week, i politely decline, he tries AGAIN to invite himself to this concert because he "thinks it might be fun," I debate whether to explain that it's going to be approximately forty minutes per string quartet & we're going to be the youngest people in the audience by about sixty years. in the end pragmatism won out and i just turned and left mid sentence, but now i'm thinking it would have been the WAY funnier move to just let him come without any advance explanation and make him sit in a church pew for two and a half hours while a bunch of old guys played period-accurate musical instruments from the 1700s
